Hotel Review: Baymont by Wyndham Bay City

I recently stayed at Baymont by Wyndham Bay City for two nights during a business trip and, unfortunately, had a highly disappointing experience.

To begin with, the parking lot felt unsafe, with no visible security system or surveillance cameras. During our stay, one of the tires on our rental truck was slashed overnight, which added unnecessary stress to our trip and raised serious concerns about guest safety.

The overall condition of the property was poor. The exterior and courtyard area appeared unkempt and unclean, with visible trash scattered throughout. The grass had not been mowed, and we observed someone feeding what looked like chicken bones or fried food to the birds—adding to the neglected atmosphere.

Our room was only semi-clean. There was water seeping up from beneath the vinyl plank flooring, creating a squelching sound and an unpleasant feeling when walking. The patio door windows were dirty, covered with smudges and fingerprints. The hallways appeared to have not been vacuumed in some time, and there was a persistent unpleasant odor throughout the building, including in our room.

Additional issues included a refrigerator that was too dirty to use, forcing us to store food in a cooler we had brought with us. The electrical outlets, including the one powering the TV, were faulty and kept losing power. Notably, there was no phone in the room, so we had to walk down to the front desk to request assistance, which was inconvenient.

While the price of the room was reasonable, it is clear that this property does not meet basic expectations for cleanliness, maintenance, or guest safety.

I would not recommend staying at this location, especially for business or family travel. This experience reinforced the saying: you get what...

Room 127||1.  Wall:  Strips coming off "wall paper" near entrance.|               Scrapes on wall near patio door.|               Smudges on wall near patio door.|2.  No spare toilet paper rolls (the one in bathroom was @2", including the cardboard roll.|3.  No facial tissue in room|           Husband had to go search for t.p. rolls & tissue, because no one would answer the room phone.|             (Or hung up.)|4.  Fridge was VERY UNBALANCED.  Husband had to place lid from ice container under|     one of the feet, before fridge could be used - it bounced so when door was opened.|5.  Receptionist wouldn't answer the phone.|6.  No towel racks in bathroom|7.  Vinyl floor molding was dented in a number of places.|8.  Floors possibly not cleaned.  Bathroom along wall, insect wing, dirt, etc.|9.  Only 1 set of towels.|10.  Steps up to exterior door were VERY DANGEROUS!!|     Not easily accessible for bringing in baggage, Or for people to use.|     Artificial turf badly torn, some completely torn away.  BIG crack across concrete on landing at #4 entrance.|11. Carpet in hallways:  "Ridged" in many places, could cause bad falls.|12.  BREAKFAST:  6 AM - 9 AM|       Practically non-existent.|       Husband went to breakfast room BEFORE 7 AM.|            NO MILK for dry cereal.|            NO PLATES|            No decaf coffee|            NO BREAD other than waffles from waffle-maker|            No fruit|            No juice|13.  There was a notice of possible "Security Deposit" of $50.||We have stayed in hotels/ motels all over the world, and this IS THE WORST|MOTEL WE HAVE EVER STAYED.||We would never stay there again, nor recommend it to others.|| Also, signage to motel is easily overlooked in a busy intersection just|off I-75, next to McDonald's ...

Absolutely ZERO STARS if it was possible! The place let's trash stay all over the place outside. We dont want to discuss what they consider a laundry room. Do yourself a favor and plan on going to the laundry mat regardless. Dont get me started on the housekeeping skills either. Keep your own cleaning stuff if you plan on being there more than a day or two is what i'd suggest. Every one has their own version of clean. People also have unleashed dogs that run right up to you. Mind you that you have no clue if it bites or not, muchless if its been vaccinated. Its extremely noisy at night from 8:30pm on. Depending on your travel plans and what you're willing to drive, I'd highly recommend making the drive over into Frankenmouth / Bridgeport to the other Baymont. Its a pleasant hotel with nice amenities. Its exactly what they show on their website. However this particular location in Baycity Michigan is NOT! And its amazing how this hotel is even still affiliated with the Baymont name. Dont let the pictures you see on the website fool you. They stole them from the other locations.
