We chose Stoney Creek out of proximity to the downtown area of Galena for a St. Patrick's Day weekend getaway. We arrived early, around 1p but our room was not ready yet. However, we were told that we had been upgraded to as suite. We decided to visit the downtown area, awaiting the readiness of our room. The person at the front desk was to call us. After a couple of hours, we did not get a phone call. So we went back to the hotel to try and see if our room was ready. We were told we would have a charge of $350 for incidentals put on our room cost right away. It would be taken off a couple of days after we left and checked out. I thought this was odd. The room was on the 1st floor, and the entry were double doors, which made it seem special from the outside. Upon entering the room, we noticed right away. There was a jetted bathtub in the room, and the room was not very big. Neither was the tub. The bed was extra large. There was an electric fireplace and a TV mounted over the top of the fireplace that was not very big. To the right of the TV. There was a very large picture of a bear. The picture was much larger than the tv...kinda odd. The whole room was northwood's bears and moose themed, log cabin cute. The bathroom was rather tiny. The shower in the bathroom was not very big at all. Not a 2-person bathroom. A large person or couple would have a difficult time. If someone were in a wheelchair, I don't think it would be very accommodating. We only stayed 2 nights, so room cleaning was not an option unless we asked for it. The free breakfast, each morning, was very yummy. The pancake making machine was the best part. I want one for my kitchen. Lol. Overall, we would stay here again because of price, location, and cleanliness. It's rather dated but it is an economical hotel if you're visiting beautiful...
Read moreReturned home after a 2 night stay and we were very happy with our visit and has a nice lodge theme which gives a cozy, homey feel. Our room was very clean including the bathroom - NO out of place gross foreign hairs and no funky smells...and that is not always easy to find...kudos to housekeeping!! We stayed in the king room w/fireplace & whirlpool. The room was a very generous size, more than enough room for us and bags/shopping items...however, TV was a little far from the bed when watching later at night, had to turn volume up a little louder then normal to hear it (while trying to be considerate of any would-be neighbors). Bed was comfortable with plenty of pillows. Only negative in this room was the stand up shower surround...we are average sized people and it was a little tight/narrow to move and turn in that space but was still doable. Nice upgrades...USB charging station, Keurig, good sized mini fridge too. Pool area, pool and hot tub were all clean and all appropriate temperatures. Good variety of breakfast items, different main entree each morning... first day was biscuits and gravy with a flavorful sausage bits...really savory, some restaraunts cant even get this right!! Next morning was sausage egg n cheese sandwiches and french toast....again, both very good. The look of hotel is deceiving from outside as it looks like your 'typical' hotel, but they really did a nice job with the lodge/woodsy decor throughout! We would be happy to return again in the future and...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I had an amazing time while staying here, the room was perfect, the pool and hot tub were amazing. The only thing that we had a slight problem with was what we saw happened during breakfast on our last days here. While we were eating breakfast, we sadly overheard a discussion between a worker and a higher up in the breakfast dining room. I believe the higher up was a assistant general manager or somewhere close to that title. Anyways she confronted the worker in front of the guests in the room while we all were eating and enjoying our food, and said along the lines of "don't eat in front of the guests, it makes a bad impression on us and the hotel" the way she said it to her sounded a bit disrespectful and rude. Then not even 10 minutes later she came back into the room to get a plate of food for herself. That was not the right way to handle the "situation" that happened. She should've atleast pulled the worker aside away from the customers in a low toned, nicely mannered voice without attitude saying something to them, instead of doing it infront of the guests that are trying to enjoy their food and morning. The worker was also working hard enough by making sure things were already clean, picked up, stocked up, and filled for us guests to help ourselves to. This happened today between the times of 9am-9:40am, Monday, April 1st. We believe that the assistant manager should've handled that better and more professionally rather than...
