We have become accustomed to the fine service and surroundings of Holiday Inn Express sites but the facility in Galesburg was in a class of its own. We received true five star treatment by the staff of this unique hotel. Dakota, the desk manager, was so exemplary in her customer service that she could write her own career ticket for any hotel in the world-yes, she was that good! She did extras that really count like getting ice for us for our travel cooler not once, but twice. We did not know how to turn off the ambient LED light strip on our bed headboard but she came to our room and turned it off for us. I just hope Dakota doesn't get burned out as she always seemed to be on duty morning or night. Special thanks to the rest of the staff Shane Hall, Amanda Sherwin, and who could forget Claire, the kind, Grandmotherly breakfast room manager who had a fine gift of gab and made us feel like we were in a very high end luxury hotel provided with personalized five star service.
Our room during our three night stay was kept spotlessly clean. If all of your Holiday Inn Express Hotels were at the level of the Galesburg facility you could soon put all of your competition out of business. Without exaggeration, the Galesburg stay was one of the best we've had in years and worth every penny. Our fellow travelers seemed just as pleased with their stay as we were.
The only very minor issue was a dip in the swimming pool one evening. The pool water temperature seemed to be quite cool (low 60's perhaps?) but the ambient room temperature seemed a little on the hot side but not enough to compensate for the chilly water. I mentioned it to Dakota afterwards and she said she would check into it. I didn't have another opportunity to visit the pool but I have no doubt Dakota probably did mention it to pool maintenance. Thanks for a wonderful 3 night stay in what I consider one of your very best hotels regardless...
Read moreIf I could leave 10 stars I would. The staff here is absolutely amazing! First we had travel plans that were broken every time we turned around. I needed to add a room to my stay for my brother that was now getting into Peoria at 2am, we're both big boys and snore, so it wouldn't be a good combination for us to stay with each other. I have traveled a lot in the past, I'm Spire Elite, I have plenty of points, and I know the system fairly well. I attempted to book a room with points, but the system had already blocked it out. It was suggested to book a night with the front desk and the manager could switch it to a points stay the next morning, and she did with no issues at all! This is how you know the manager listens to the customers and respects the situations the customer is in. This hotel has a fantastic manager! The very next night I had to switch hotels from Chicago to here, late booking and late getting in again! The night shift lady automatically gave me a 2pm check out, and put a 'breakfast for the road bag' on my door (only picture I had). As I mentioned before, I have traveled, A LOT, I have NEVER had someone do this for me. This is the type of people we need in our life's! I hope she is reading this, you are a wonderful person, thank you for everything! We were all struggling to get here for my Grandmothers funeral, and this hotel was a blessing, they kept up with the punches we faced and made our time here smooth and wonderful! I know this is a lot to read, but if you are still reading, don't question it, STAY HERE. Rooms are new, clean, and quiet as well! The managers and staff our not just going through the motions, they hear you, they work with you, they are absolutely amazing, and I'm happy to...
Read moreWe traveled to Galesburg to attend a college conference track meet. Have never been to Galesburg and enjoyed the whole trip. The hotel is quite new but besides the spotlessly clean and fresh appearance of entry, common spaces, and room, it was just a wonderful design with a bright, welcoming feel to it. Lots of natural light. Our regular king room on the first floor had a super comfortable bed, fainting couch, which was comfortable for reading, ergonomic desk chair and desk and a large suitcase platform below the wall-mounted flat-screen TV, which was really handy. I liked the walk-in shower rather than a tub. There were a lot of amenities like ironing board, iron, hair dryer. Things that we didn't use but made note of for future trips. Also fridge/freezer and microwave.
Check out the salad and hot bar at the Hy-Vee grocery store right across the parking lot from the hotel. We had several quick and good meals there- fresh fruit, taco bar, etc.
It was nice to be able to easily adjust the temperature and keep the fan on for a little white noise during the night- mostly to drown out spouse's snoring. However, it was very quiet in hall and outside of the building. Last few hotels we've stayed at seemed to have thermostats that were just for show, or amusement!
We traveled with our well-mannered and quiet lab-golden retriever dog and her crate, towels, etc. and felt extremely lucky to be welcomed there. We've stayed in some total dives in order to travel with the dog. This was as nice a place as we would ever hope to stay in. Less than 2 miles from Knox College...
