We stayed for 1 week near the end of July and the location was fantastic. Far enough from the interstate that you can feel secluded but close enough that it's 10 minutes to the grocery or restaurants. We used it as a jumping off point to visit Mammoth caves and Crystal onyx cave and we also took advantage of the nearby attractions for horse riding, mini golf, etc. Kids had a blast and the caretaker was always nearby if we needed anything.
The cabin itself is much bigger than I expected based on the pictures. We're a large family of 7 but it never felt too small. We've definitely stayed in much smaller places. The kids really enjoyed the loft and the games like corn hole that were available. I loved having most of a kitchen (no oven) as it's helped us do more with our money by cooking most meals. Small touches, like having a bundle of sticks and logs by the fire pit ready to go, really makes you feel like the people running it care that you enjoy your stay. I've already talked with family and we want to come down again next year with a larger group! 100% if you're in the area the Base camp is the best bang...
Read moreThis is under new management and hopefully they can get it together. The location is great but communication was awful. I had to contact the previous owner several times so that she would contact the current owner because I was not getting a response. I had called the number 2x the morning of arrival with no answer or call back. We were given the option to pay electronically and that was fine. But the lack of communication had me wanting to wait till we got there to pay. My husband arrived before me and when I got there at 6pm I did not have the info to pay because I had just gotten a new phone cause my previous one broke. There is no office. I had called and sent a follow up text asking for someone to contact me. No one called or messaged me back. Someone then showed up 2 1/2 hours later and was extremely rude saying you need to pay us and you are basically trespassing by not paying. I told them that I had tried to get ahold of someone and they said they tried to call but I have call logs and they did not. It has potential but needs more info online about what is offered and the owner needs to...
Read moreGEM IN THE AREA!! Quiet ,CLEAN, tastefully decorated and wonderfully appointed with comfy beds, linens, towels, games, porch chairs, kitchen, A/C, fans, T.V., wifi,...Hubby and I stayed 2-nights in Cabin #4 and loved every minute-even when it rained as we stayed dry under the huge porch. These cabins beat any of the hotels in the area and other rental cabins did not have the view and privacy as BaseCamp Cabins do. About a :15-:20 min drive to Mammoth Caves (highly recommend the History Tour AND the Star Room Lantern Tour). LOTS of family-friendly places within 5-10 min: Putt-Putt Golf, riding stables, souvenir stores, rock shops, DinoLand... Cave City is 5 min away w/ delicious Bucky Bees BBQ restaurant-large portions and best pies and ice cream for dessert. (Blueberry ice cream was the BEST) Cracker Barrel has a great breakfast. Cave City Coffee and Creamery also great and local owners. We drove from NE Ohio to Mammoth Caves and we were not disappointed with our stay at Mammoth Cave...
