First, the good news. Our original reservations had to be changed within four days of the stay due to a death in the family and they graciously allowed us to do so. The management is very gracious, no doubt about that. The Procter suite was very clean and had a very classic charm. There was an electric fireplace and on a damp fall night, that was a lovely touch. Also, the breakfast at the Bluebird Bakery was quite good. There were complimentary juice and water in the fridge and a full-size coffee maker with plenty of coffee and tea choices. In addition, they gave us a bag each of savory and sweet Italian snacks. ||As I said, we rescheduled our stay and asked specifically for a King bed. I called four days prior to confirm the reservation. When we got there, the King suite wasn't available. We wanted a walk in shower which is one of the reasons why we booked the King suite This bathroom had a bathtub with no grab bars and a mediocre shower. ||The bed was a bit too high for me and it was difficult to get in and out. There was no nightstand on one side. If you wear glasses, you know how disconcerting it is to not have your glasses near you, especially in a strange place. ||I gave the Glendalia four out of five. The positives definitely outweighed the negatives. If you don't mind climbing stairs, can ignore trains (which is clearly mentioned on their website) and don't have your heart set on a particular room, then we would recommend this place. However, if you need accessibility, you may want to...
Read moreBooked this on a whim for a one-night anniversary stay. The village is beautiful, with gorgeous old homes. Not a lot to do in the village itself, but Cincinnati is just 15 min or so down the highway. We enjoyed our night just strolling through the area--we had arrived in time to get a sandwich at the Bluebird Bakery (very good) and visit the village museum (interesting to see the village in a then-and-now context). The Glendalia is a storefront with apartments above, so the "rooms" are actually suites with kitchen, living & bedrooms. They are furnished beautifully with original paintings and some real antiques. I understand that the downstairs is used for cooking classes, which were not scheduled when we stayed, but the facilities looked amazing. We did attend an open house for the new managers, and the presentation was impressive. Breakfast was pre-made and left in the fridge: homemade cinnamon raisin pancakes, bacon and fresh fruit, and it was nice to enjoy it in our own room. Now the drawbacks: All rooms are upstairs, which means a long flight of stairs to reach them. The working train tracks are very close & trains run through the night (I slept right through, but they woke my husband). Because the building is old, the room I originally booked was having issues with the heat, but we were given another room that was also very nice. This was a wonderful find for a...
Read moreStayed here years ago and am shocked that what people are complaining about is very much what my party experienced during our stay. Bad service, no return phone calls, number of towels didn't match people booked, breakfast didn't match people booked, dirty and when I discussed booking the room with a fireplace on the phone they told me it would be more and I agreed to it. When I arrived a week later they told me the fireplace hadn't worked in over a month. And I could have my pic of all the other rooms because they were all empty. But we couldn't do that either b/c we needed 2 bedrooms. The owner failed at the restaurant she had across the street, she just sat at the bar and talked to the bartenders all night and didn't greet a soul and she's failed with this too. She's a rich lumber heiress from Cali, not sure why she never shows interest in her businesses. Why bother?||What I find most humorous is the min 3 night stay. Look at the website, everything is available. They hardly have any bookings. How does this even make sense. They turn away a 1 or 2 night stay because of their policy and don't make any money at all. Brilliant! lol||All I have to say is I've lived in Glendale over half my life and it would be wonderful if someone bought this little gem and...
