Never Again (long text) The Mountain Valley Lodge has been our “go to” hotel whenever visiting Hailey. We will not return.. The hotel and the room itself were fine. The front desk staff? Entirely different story. We arrived an hour before official check-in time & took a chance to see if we could check-in early. Upon arrival we were met it was apparent we were unwelcomed, no hello and informed that we were there too early and check in wasn’t until 3pm. No smile, no hello pretty much get the heck out of here. I thought it was just me until my travel buddy said “did we piss her off or something?” When we checked in after 3pm our room was fine. We did have a laugh that it looked like there had been a shoot out in the room because there were 13 patched up but not painted holes in the room all the same size. No big deal. Our troubles began the next morning at breakfast. The breakfast buffet hours were 5:30am - 10:30am. We arrived at 8am to find out there pretty much was nothing left (See attached pictures) There were no hotel staff to be seen - neither a breakfast area attendant or anyone at the nearby front desk. After waiting 30 minutes with no one in sight a hotel employee (Vivian) appeared at the front desk. During this 30 minute wait several hotel guests came down for breakfast. Upon seeing there was no breakfast they left. “Guess we are going out for breakfast” was a common overheard conversation. When I asked Vivian about the lack of breakfast food she was (take your pick) rude, indifferent, with a just go away attitude - exactly how she had treated us a day earlier when we tried to check in. Her only comment was “it will be ready in 2 minutes”. While I was speaking with Vivian another lady approached the desk asking the same question “where is breakfast? We’ve been waiting over half an hour. Aren’t breakfast hours 5:30 to 10:30?” Vivian replied with a big sigh and a “it will be out in 2 minutes” 15 minutes later a staff member did bring out a very small bowl of eggs. A few minutes later a small bowl of potatoes. Fresh fruit was not replenished. Bread was not replenished. An extended family who had been waiting 45 minutes like us finally gave up and left. There clearly wasn’t enough eggs or potatoes for their family. Mountain Valley Lodge needs to hire people who both want to and enjoy working with the public. There was no excuse for the lack of food half-way through breakfast hours but especially the rude, impolite and disrespectful attitude by the front desk attendant Vivian..

Decent hotel, good sized rooms, pity the dirty windows spoiled the mountain view’s . Staff at the front desk ‘went through the motions’ but lacking in any customer service. Breakfast wasn’t worth the effort, we skipped it after the first morning .

UPDATE: A staff member told me I "need to" take down this review. After my credit card company got involved, I did receive a refund, which is appreciated. However. This review contains an honest account of my personal experience, and I cannot in good conscience remove the review until the issue is completely resolved. Other potential guests need to know what is going on.

The staff member, Angela, claims a pest control professional has been to the hotel and cannot find any critters and claims these photos aren't of bedbugs anyway. I would genuinely love to be proved wrong because that would alleviate much anxiety over this situation. So, I told her that if the pest control person contacts me directly and both affirms that he has checked out the situation, and identifies the bugs in these photos as something else, I will consider amending this review. I invited Angela to email me the pest control company's contact info or have them call me. I haven't heard from them, but when I do I will update this review again. I am not a pest expert, but I looked up pest identification articles and photos online and acted in good faith based on the information I found. ....

Bedbugs and no refund. 🙃 edited to add more information:

I am in town for business to attend a conference. My original accommodation fell through, so I ended up booking this place last minute and arrived just after booking. At first, it seemed like a nice place, the linen is very clean and the parking lot well maintained. But as I settled in and was watching tv in bed, little bugs started appearing. I tried not to panic, I did what any reasonable person would do and started googling, which unfortunately confirmed my suspicions. The bedbugs appear to be concentrated in the upholstered headboard. More and more kept appearing.

After confirming these are indeed bedbugs, I packed up all my things and went downstairs to alert the front desk person to the problem. She was far, far too casual about the situation and did not appear surprised, did not have any follow up questions or want to go look at the room. She only offered to switch my room. She did not apologize.

If one room has an infestation, they all do, so I declined to change rooms and asked for a refund. The concierge refused to do this and also refused to give me the information to contact the hotel manager, and said that the soonest I can call and speak to a manager is MONDAY. Last night was Wednesday. So I left and was charged the full amount for both nights of my reservation. I will be contacting the health department and also disputing these charges with my credit card company. Truly disgusting and unacceptable, do...

Hot water heaters broke, dead body in the spa, and our room smelled like smoke the entire time.

Stayed here while my son was playing in a hockey tournament. First issue that came up was that our room, 203, smelled like cigarette smoke when we checked in. I let the front desk know. I think they were sold out so no offer for another room. She did take the time to look up who was in the room before me while I stood there. Not sure how that helped. We kept the window cracked open for fresh air the entire time. In January. In Idaho.

That evening I undressed and turned on the shower, and after about 6 minutes it was pretty obvious the water was just gonna be ice cold forever. I called the front desk. Only one water heater was working but she was waiting on the plumbers to get back into town with a part to fix the others. So I showered in ice cold water in Idaho in January thinking there would be hot water the next day. Nope. There wasn’t . Didn’t have hot water the next morning for a shower. We never did get hot water. And the towel I used to dry off with was obviously infused with smoke smell. It wasn’t a fresh towel.

The TV in our room didn’t work. And we only found 2 working outlets.

Sunday morning we had an early game, and around 6:30 am there was a body floating in the spa. Some of the kids on our team saw it. Apparently an older man died and the hotel staff had just discovered it.

Can’t say these issues were entirely anyone’s fault at the hotel but my issue is with how it was handled. Especially when a deceased person was discovered, they should have covered the windows to the pool. I mean I’m sure they could spare a sheet and tape it up.

They should have let guests know about the lack of hot water. They should have done something about our...
