Our family stayed at SpringHill Suites Devens Corner 2 weeks ago when in town for an athletic event at Progin Park we were NOT part of the Mass Soccer Association group staying at the hotel. I have no issues with this physical property-it is fairly new and well maintained. Outside of the hotel was clean and well kept. There were luggage trolleys available and working elevators to the three floors. The first floor included a medium size heated pool area and separate workout/fitness room everything was clean. We also used the laundry facilities while we were there. All machines were working and only $1 a load. We were notified upon arrival that the hotel was overbooked. Which was a huge disappointment to be moved from our pre-booked room. We are rewards members and book using the app for this very reason, so we will never be bumped from a room-but we were. That issue was cleared up with the help of front desk staff. I found all the staff to be friendly and accommodating. There is an outdoor seating area and an indoor lobby seating area where the breakfast is held. The free complimentary breakfast was good with a variety of cold items, two types of fresh fruit and three hot items (breakfast sandwich, sausages and pre-cooked omelet bites). This area was clean and the staff was VERY attentive and kind. Pool met our needs and was heated and clean-no hot tub. After checking in and getting settled we used the pool and went to our event and dinner. When we returned we saw a very different hotel. The hotel was in fact sold out and the lobby area was FILLED with parents from the Youth Soccer Organization event. They had taken over the lobby and breakfast area and were occupying every table. There were also excessive amounts of alcohol and drinking. In coolers, open containers, in bags on the floor, set up on the tables-pretty much everywhere. It was very apparent that these 50 or so people were intoxicated. Where are all their children you ask? Running wild in the hotel. We saw kids ranging from 3-15 trashing doors and hallways, spilling drinks on the floor and carpet, grinding food into rugs and on doors. While returning to our room I observed kids opening creamers in the free coffee area and pouring them on the floor and throwing them at doors. It was disgusting. I am appalled that a hotel would allow and encourage (by allowing them to occupy and drink in this public space) such behavior. I have stayed at Marriotts around the country and travel often and have never experienced this. We returned to our room. The adults in the lobby became increasingly intoxicated even setting up a drink station in the CLOSED breakfast bar area. Hotel management could have easily enforced a no open container or public drinking of alcohol in this area. They could have also not allowed outside alcohol to be consumed in an open area. We also saw those who looked underage drinking with their parents. In our room we saw and heard kids running up and down the halls, banging on doors, screaming, kicking soccer balls into doors of those on opposing teams, running wild in stairwells and over-populating the pool. The pool had 20 or so kids moving back and forth trying to spill the pool water onto the floor with NO supervision. Our door was banged on 15 times from 8pm-2am. No I did not call the front desk because there was NO way this could be controlled or stopped. Now, I understand a hotel that is in need of business booking large groups of rooms and selling out for the money VS having 5-10 rooms filled on a weekend. It is not sustainable for a hotel this large. However, they should issue a warning to guests that are not affiliated with this group that the hotel is oversold with large blocks of rooms being pre-booked for an event and that you may experience excessive noise and disruptions on their trip. I heard others at breakfast also complaining about the noise, drinking and disruptions during their stay. We were also told this goes on often. No issues with the room-it was a suite-beds clean and comfortable. Mini fridge, microwave and...
Read moreTo the potential customers reading this, do yourself a favor and go to the Hilton Garden next door. The hotel is much nicer and cleaner, and you most likely won't run into the same issue I did, whether you smoke cigarettes or flower or both.
To the manager reading this, I try not to leave bad reviews, and ultimately give places the benefit of the doubt.. However, this morning after check-out, I received a call that the housekeeping staff reported a marijuana odor and informed that I was being charged a smoking fee due to a no smoking policy! Apparently this was your decision, yet you couldn't even call me yourself you had the front desk call me to handle the dirty work, who admitted she agreed with my defense, but again that it was your decision for the call and charge. I travel all over for work, stay in numerous hotels, and have never had a complaint. I am not stupid enough to smoke inside a public building like that. You can tell the difference between someone who has opened a container of flowers and one who has burned flowers, I woulda set off smoke detectors and alarms and the whole damn floor would have reek of the burning flowers. If you take a look back at your cameras throughout my stay, you'll see I exited my room and the building multiple times to go outside and smoke OUTSIDE the building!! You're hotel, private property or not, is in a legal state so of course you're going to have guest who have their flower on them on inside the property. Throughout my stay the weather was cold and wet, so the likelihood of sitting outside anywhere to prepare my flower was slim to nun. One of your elevators smelled of vomit the entire time, not to mention the piles of vomit sitting outside the southeast entrance. My door handle needed to be replaced because it gets stuck, soo I left my door cracked most of the time. So again, the halls would have be affected if I had been smoking inside. I was passed by different people while standing outside smoking, none of whom ever complained to myself or the front desk, most of which actually said Hi and that it smelled good!!! I'm not sure if you have something against smoking or this was just a money grab, but I'll make sure that myself or no one else from my company ever books rooms at your...
Read moreThe facility is well-maintained, it is a standard newer version of the SpringHill Suites property. The rooms are cleaned well, promptly on schedule. There is plenty of parking, it is not usually very challenging to find a spot.
Not to complain about a free breakfast, but the tray of yellow gelatinous matter, otherwise known as powdered, scrambled eggs that they serve is generally gross. Some days they have easy ways around the powered eggs, other days the mystery eggs are the only warm portion present. Real eggs aren’t that expensive, they really should make the switch, I know that I would gladly pay for it. The Hilton Garden Inn is a short walk down the road, they serve made-to-order breakfasts with real eggs available for purchase by anyone.
During the week days, the hotel is quiet and generally filled with respectful guests that are traveling on business. On the weekends during the summer, there are wedding parties and sports teams that have no regard for any level of noise and disruption at any time of the night. The management takes a generally passive role in attempting to control the noise. It is 100, 12-year-old, athletic kids and proud parents against one or two evening hotel managers.
I happen to be staying over a weekend where there are a particularly obnoxious group of mid-teenage La Crosse players staying 3 days for a tournament. Kids are running up and down the halls, balls being thrown up against the walls, and there are boisterous social gatherings alternating in about every third room all the way down the hall, making it nearly impossible to get any sleep. Whatever the management tried didn’t work.
I would recommend looking elsewhere if you are looking for peace and quiet on a weekend...
