I have three criteria for lodging, be it a traditional ma and pa motel or an international 5-star resort: 1. Am I safe on the property, 2. Am I comfortable on the property, and 3. Would a reasonable person conclude I got what I paid for – or value.|In the northern Montana railroad town of Havre, the decades-old two-story Siesta Motel certainly has seen better days, and its struggles are apparent. I stayed at the motel for one night passing through. At $95 per night (June 2025) I think the motel is on the edge of being overpriced. ||Safety: |Havre is a rural Montana town. Not much goes on here after 6 p.m. except for the continual freight train traffic, which will not wake you at night. The Siesta Motel is on the main thorough fare with easy access. But as I pulled into the cramped parking lot, I saw two older scruffy and disheveled looking fellows sitting on chairs outside. I wasn’t sure these were guests or motel staff. Check-in was reasonably easy, but again, another unkept fellow leaned over the counter while scanning his smartphone and not looking at me at all. My room had a new electronic lock, activated by scanning your hand then entering a code. The motel attendant had to show me how to use it. The door to the room had three windows which reminded me of what you would see in an apartment dwelling. Cardboard cutouts were taped to the door’s windows, presumably to block the outdoor security lights. The interior door had a serviceable chain to secure it. Beware, the motel’s cramped parking lot is not built for large SUVs or pickup trucks. The place seemed to have a perplexing vibe to it I struggle to describe but felt.||Comfort. |The room was dated, but reasonable comfortable. It could use some basic attention to detail. The bed was comfortable, but something crawling up my leg at night woke me fast. (No kidding!) The room did not have a coffee maker; this is almost a deal-breaker for me. (The coffee maker is in the motel’s small lobby.) I did not try the dented microwave or the much older refrigerator, which had a locking handle. The toilet would not work properly and I had to take my multi-tool and fix the float each time I flushed it. The television worked fine. The motel quizzically has an outdoor propane grill chained to the building near my room’s window. The two scruffy fellows fired up the grill and grilled something. They sat talking loudly nonstop until about 9:30 p.m. They both smoked, and it smelled awfully near something you can’t buy at Walmart. (The motel needs to lose the grill.)||Value.|This is a tough call. For almost $95 a night in summer, and its low-key appearance, I conclude Siesta Motel is overpriced. But if you are on a budget and are staying there for one night, the Siesta Motel will do. But be prepared for things which will make you wonder about your choice.||I wish Trip Advisor would allow a .5 rating too, such as 2.5, 3.5 etc. Sometimes a property might not warrant a 3.0 but a 2.0 isn't fair. I’ll default to a higher rating for the Siesta...
Read moreThis was the second time we have stayed here since the new owner took over. Check in was very quick and we were able to get the room we like . It is nice to be on the main level as we had our dog with us.||||The room is very large with one queen bed two recliner chairs and a microwave, fridge, and large TV. There is no coffee maker in the room but there is coffee in the office.||||The room is spotlessly clean ad the bedding is great. I do like the towels as they are large and enough of them. The bathroom was so so so clean and well laid out. I like the 1950's colours of the bathroom tiles so retro. The shower stall is not large but the water pressure is excellent.||||There is lots of free parking and areas outside the rooms for people that wish to smoke. ||||The owner is excellent and will do what ever is necessary to make your stay a very pleasant one . The price is excellent and one of the better prices in Havre.||||If you are staying in Havre this is certainly the place to book a room. Also there is a restaurant next door...
Read moreThis motel has the best shower water pressure I've ever had at any hotel. Ever. They have updated this place as best they can, without a complete overhaul. However, there are no drapes in the room (at least the one we had). It has white miniblinds, which let in ALL the light (and also, someone could look through the holes where the cords are). The parking lot is well lit, so our room was as well. There is a window on the opposite side of the room, which was dark at night, but bright in the morning. No need for a nightlight. Room was so-so quiet, although you can hear the trucks and train go by. Parking is tight, and you may have to park in the street on the side. Our room was on the lower floor, but there are still stairs to get there (as there is a basement-level also; not sure if they have rooms down there). Man was standing below street level smoking and staring at us as we walked by. The floor squeaks a lot, so I hope no one was below us. Front desk staff was friendly. Ate at nearby Jenny's, which I...
