Read moreI liked that the hotel was very nice with complimentary parking. Room was fine. Hotel had a unique design in downstairs lobby area and large area for breakfast. Due to COVID19, breakfast was very minimal with packaged generic pastries (which I understand) and coffee. It would have been nice if the pastries were from a local bakery to help support local businesses. That would have been good marketing. Evening staff, Raymond was very nice, efficient, and friendly when we checked in. He even went the extra mile by providing us with a map of food places still open since it was really late by the time we arrived into Oakland. However, we found other staff to be lacking in customer service and professionalism. When I was checking out, I was barely acknowledged and I stood there for a few minutes in silence after handing over the room cards expecting to told something - anything really - like have a nice day, we'll email you the receipt, hope you had a pleasant stay, etc. It wasn't until the clerk realized I was still standing there that she asked me what I wanted and told me that the receipt would be emailed with no additional information. I told her I wanted a printed copy. Why can't it be standard practice to just ask if I also want a printed copy, and at least smile and say thanks for staying with us? On a separate very early morning, I went down to the front desk to buy water, the clerk told me that she was running an audit and wouldn't be able to take cash, and acted like I was bothering her. I know she was busy, but I am staying at your hotel - could you not be so rude? I asked her if she could add it to my room number, which she did. Housekeeping was ok, but due to COVID19, I didn't want them in our room. We hung out the sign, but called down to front desk for some extra towels (they gave me 1) and facial tissue; that took 2 separate trips (first arriving without the towel) and 40 minutes. Some miscommunication, but not a big deal although I am glad we were not in a rush to leave the hotel that morning. Overall, our...
Read moreNew(er) hotel, very nice cosmetically and pretty safe for the Hayward/Oakland area but sub par for a Marriott property because of the staff and amenities. I stayed on a Sat-Mon and from the beginning with the short, to the point, quick check in (somewhat nice but didn't give me wifi pswd, other hotel info) to the cleaning staff, I was disappointed. I had someone walk into my room sometime between 7-8am while I was still sleeping to clean (admittedly did not have the do not disturb sign up but still... that early on a 2 night stay?). Also the staff descended on to the breakfast like locust about 9:40 (20 mins before close up). I was able to get some items but I felt bad for the people after me, there wasn't much left for guests. WiFi was horrible and unusable on my iPhone. Would not stay connected and beyond slow. Even in the atrium. Had issues with the tv channels; They went all out at one time (no bad weather outside) and then some just never came back?? Beds were not of the usual super comfortable Marriott type and the sheets kept coming dislodged. Minor annoyances but none the less.
On a positive note they do have an enormous atrium and much of the staff seemed to be of much different demeanor come around Monday morning. Minus feeling like I was being herded out of my room even though I had a late checkout.
As a Marriott Rewards Platinum member I was disappointed and will not be staying here again unless it's extremely convienant or I cannot find another safe hotel in the area next...
