Booked two nights in a condo in Bldg 4, just before the Thanksgiving holiday. The windows of the back of the unit overlooked the entrance gate, but we didn't hear much traffic. It was also off-season (Nov) so not many people there at all. It's a big resort that offers a few outdoor pools, an indoor heated pool/hot tub/sauna/steam room/running track, along with outdoor tennis courts, bike rentals, and Coco's beach bar/restaurant. The boardwalk is a long hike, but in November you can ride bikes on it (through April or May?). We had to search quite a bit to find the details about the boardwalk, before we booked the unit. They also have a shuttle during the regular season. The beach is nice, just note that Coco's closes up during the off season. The resort was built in 1982, and it was probably pretty nice. Now, it's in need of serious attention. You can tell they're letting a lot of it go. The outdoor carpet in buildings 3 & 4 is well past its prime, and makes the everything look and smell dingy. The indoor swimming pool and spa area in Bldg #3 need attention and cleaning: the evening lighting is minimal and dim, the walls are dingy, and the floor throughout was dirty. The pool was warm, but the tile was slimy and the water was bubbly like the chemicals were off. The restrooms were are in dire need of serious deep cleaning and sanitizing (scrub the tile, fix the shower heads and cap/caulk them!!) , and the sauna controls (and cover) were clearly broken a long time ago. Instead of just fixing the acrylic cover and broken knob(s), they just pressed the wrong type/size knob onto it leaving you wondering why it was never fixed or updated. If you're looking for storage cages, good luck. We trudged down dark and unmarked corridors until we finally walked outside and around by the marshy area where we finally found the access to the cages. We then had to search up and down to find the cage for our condo. Be aware, a standard cage is probably too small to hold two "normal" adult bikes. Plus, the cage may already be full of beach stuff. Nice that they offer that stuff, but if you have expensive bikes, just be aware they probably won't fit. You'll have to park them under one of the buildings in a roped off area. It's not enclosed or protected from the elements, and it's not restricted access - park your bike and use your own lock. I didn't see any camera coverage there, so be aware if you have high-value or theft-prone bikes. We ended up loading our e-bikes back into our truck at night. Even in the off-season, the unit we rented was still over three hundred for two nights. I wish we would have just spent more and gone to a nicer resort that takes pride in...
Read moreHilton Head Resort is an excellent place to stay on vacation! The resort itself is absolutely massive, with four buildings all connected via walkways, each building with different amenities. We stayed in building 4, condo #4420, furthest from the beach. We have stayed in this unit 2 years in a row now and have been pleased both times. Each condo is individually owned and rented out so take reviews of the condos with a grain of salt. Ours was beautifully updated with a washer/dryer in unit. Building 4 offers tennis and pickleball courts, and access to the first outdoor pool (this one seems to stay relatively quiet as most people probably don’t realize it’s there), #3 has an indoor pool, kiddie pool, hot tub, sauna, fitness room, game room, and elevated landings to sit on. #2 has a tennis court and a gorgeous landing with chairs for relaxing and beautiful landscaping beneath. Finally, #1 has another outdoor pool with a delicious cafe offering a large menu. Delicious food and yummy adult drinks. I was not expecting much with the food but was pleasantly surprised. This building also contains access to the boardwalk, and I will say the walk to the beach is quite a hike when you are hauling wagons with beach equipment and a toddler. They do offer a complimentary shuttle service during the day to assist in crossing the boardwalk although the hours of operation seemed to be a bit inconsistent. When you reach the end of the boardwalk you will find a sand volleyball court and Coco’s on The Beach. Having a tiki bar right on the beach is super helpful if you plan on staying out all day, as you don’t have to walk all the way back to the resort to refuel. Keep in mind that Coco’s does close up during the off-season. All in all, we had an excellent time. This resort has so many amenities that we didn’t even have to leave the property much at all, and we were there for a full week. My only complaints with the resort is that it can be quite difficult to navigate if you don’t familiarize yourself with the layout in advance. Like I said, it is a ginormous resort. There are about 14 stairwells and 8 (don’t quote me on this but I want to say that’s correct) elevators. The elevators are painfully slow and a bit rickety. The parking situation could be better. There aren’t nearly enough spots available for the amount of units, had the resort been at full capacity. The inside of the indoor pool room specifically was particularly musty. The carpets could definitely stand to be replaced on all floors. Lots of spots in the walls that needed to be caulked and sealed. Over all we had a great experience and look forward to our...
Read moreJust returned from here for a long weekend and went ahead and booked our summer vacation when I realized we had never reviewed this resort. We ALWAYS review each villa we rent but somehow didn't think about the resort. We have stayed here half a dozen times at least and different times of year (mostly summer) and will definitely return. Have been coming to the island for 20+ years with kids and now grandkids so we have stayed all over the island and seen alot. I am writing a detailed review because I feel this resort is under-rated. Each unit is privately owned so some have been updated with very nice upgrades like Granite, wood floors, tile, etc while others haven't had as much done. We have always stayed in nice units each time but we always check reviews for each one since we can not always stay in the same ones if not available for our dates. Dont know how the cheaper renting units are...just always figure the upgrades are well worth the price. The resort is older (as are just about all of them on HHI) but it has been very well maintained. Parking lots have all new pavement, boardwalk is new, tennis courts newly resurfaced, pools maintained and everything seems to be in good repair and the place gets better each time we come. They have security guards that make rounds thru out the day and night and there is definitely no ruckus going on which we appreciate as we prefer family oriented vacations. Read where someone posted how noisy this place is but they couldn't have been here or it had to be a one off. Not even the pool areas are loud unless kids playing is what you call loud. Having stayed on South end of the island or in the Coligny area in the past before finding this resort, we find the beach is nicest along this area ..very sandy and clean and the most private section of beach on the island. Deli by the pool is handy and food is good there and at their Coco's on the beach cabana. Also big plus is having restrooms right at the beach at Coco's. Indoor pool is great if there is rain and real nice for a winter stay. Enjoyed the new steam sauna and also the dry sauna. The golfcart shuttles to the beach are nice but we usually walk..boardwalk is nice and scenic. Nice and handy being right next door to my favorite golf course on the island. The new Shelter Cove Towne Center is maybe half mile from the gate and and an easy bike ride away. All in all, for our family, this resort offers the best value on the island and the villas we have rented have all been extremely...
