Disappointing decline at what used to be a great campground.
I’ve been visiting Pacific Beach Resort & Conference Center for several years and used to really enjoy staying here. Unfortunately, the quality has noticeably declined over the past couple of seasons. What was once a, well-maintained, and peaceful campground now feels a bit neglected.
I know that camping shouldn't be seen as glamorous and you don't align it with bowling, movies, arcade and more, however when you are wanting to stay in a place because of the amenities, that is what you would hope to expect. With Pacific Beach this was something my kids enjoyed about going every year, it was one of their favorite campgrounds. After this last visit they no-longer consider it amongst the top of their list. Several of the amenities are no longer in good shape or even exist for that mater. Two years ago we were told that they were going to take down a building or two and make some upgrades however the upgrades never happened. I'm sure budget cuts was the top contributor for the "downfall" as I would state it. The road around the campground used to be concrete, however it is now both gravel and concrete where my daughter used to roller-skate. The bowling ally is gone along with the game room and a larger selection of rental equipment and games. Some basic maintenance around the sites and common areas seems to be falling behind as well.
On a positive note, staff is friendly and attentive. The overall location of the campground is great with quick access to the beach. Most of the camp sites give you plenty of room with a table. All of this is the only reason I still gave the review three stars.
It’s frustrating to see a place with so much potential and past charm lose its standards. I genuinely hope management takes the feedback to heart and invests in bringing things back up to where they used to be.
Until then, it’s hard to recommend Pacific Beach Resort & Conference Center the...
Read morePacific Beach Resort is located on a bluff overlooking the ocean, beautiful views of the ocean, beach, and sunsets. A short drive takes you to the beach. We stayed in a pet friendly, King Suite in Building #113, the Sea Breeze, which is separate from the hotel. The suite was very well furnished and clean. And as a suite, the sitting / dining area and bedroom are separated. However, the building is not attractive and very outdated. The hallway and hallway rest rooms especially need renovation. And there was a very unpleasant, musty scent in the hallway. We were disappointed with housekeeping. Upon leaving our suite late morning, we met the housekeeper in the hallway. After a brief chat about dogs, I clearly stated we were leaving for the day and she could clean our suite. To our surprise, when we returned late afternoon we found the suite had not been serviced. I contacted the front desk receptionist. Since it was too late in the day, housekeeping was no longer available. Another surprise was the cafe was closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. When I made our 2-day reservation by phone directly with the resort, I specifically asked if there was indeed a restaurant at the resort as advertised. I received a confirmation but not told the cafe was closed on the days of our reservation. The town of Pacific Beach has no services except for a gas station and a pub. Fortunately, only a few miles down Rt 109 is the resort town of Seabrook which has a few restaurants and a small, grocery market. Except for these communication issues, we enjoyed our visit along the Pacific Coast and plan to return. Next time we'll leave the dog at home and try out the hotel or maybe a cottage, which look very nice, and be sure to stay on days the...
Read moreWe first came here in 2001 and stayed in one of the 4 bedroom cottages. This time we opted to stay in the hotel for a couple days and then the tent campground. Not a great deal to do when cold out but lots to explore. This is a super inexpensive getaway and it is well worth every penny.
As for the camping … Oddly they have the bathrooms and showers in the RV park so the tent campers have to go there for the facilities. Key cards are required.
The hotel needs updating and they seem to be slowly getting to it but the rooms are clean for the most part (don’t think ours was used in a while as the air install had dropped debris all over the table and floor). Room has bigger than average hotel room fridge, microwave, and Keurig coffee maker, I expected a musty odor in the room but there is none (overlooking the beach that is expected but happy it is absent). Beach access is a short walk and the beach is HUGE.
No protection for tent campers (open field like campsites) but they have a picnic table and fire ring. Great getaway with the option to rent things to enjoy all that is around you.
Unlike when we were here 21 years ago they now have fun activities for kids and families.
This is a great place for any military people/families wether on a budget or not!
Staff are so lovely and you can’t go wrong by stopping by to grab a coffee or chia tea latte before heading out. Non-dairy options was a total but please take surprise.
Would be 5 star but the little things dropped it. Nothing big just small things but at this price point it doesn’t disappoint (only the...
