I can count on one hand how many reviews Iâve ever posted in my 35 years. Today is my birthday. My husband and I were exhausted after a weekend on vacation nearby with our (5) kids and needed a caffeine boost. A Mexican mocha sounded great. I didnât see it on the menu. I asked if they could make one. The (older) female server with short, dark, curly hair rolled her eyes and repeated my request and then mocked âisnât a Mexican mocha just a mocha with cinnamon??â (insert undermining attitude here). I replied that I didnât know (thinking because 1) Iâm not a barista and 2) Iâve only have one a couple times in my life at other shops). My husband asked about their surf macchiato. She mocked him while describing what was in it. He decided on that. I was stressed out at this point and just decided to order what my husband did. I said âIâll just have the same drink, but half sweet⊠oh!âŠand with coconut milkâ. She replies with a smirk and side-eye âwell, thatâs NOT the same thingâ and proceeded to write my order onto the side of my cup.
When I tell you Iâve never smashed the âno tipâ button so fast in my entire life. I work in a customer service field and I can understand bad days.. but this was crazy! Totally rude and...
Read moreWe were extremely let down by both the service and quality of food at the cafe, and would not recommend Surfhouse to anyone until something changes.
We started by placing an online order for breakfast since their website promotes doing so. After completing the order my card was charged and I got a text confirmation saying my order would be ready in a half hour. When I went to pick it up, they said the online orders only go to the pub (which doesnât open until 4pm) and that they had no record of my order. They asked what I ordered and I had to wait another 20 minutes for our 2 breakfast items.
During that time, two other groups of people went up to the counter saying they had been waiting a long time and were still missing parts of their orders. Obviously the 3 high school students working there were understaffed and undertrained - I felt kind of bad for them but it definitely solidified that whoever is running this place is doing a poor job on many fronts.
The last nail in the coffin for us was the portion size of their $9 breakfast bowl. It was comically tiny. A picture is attached.
Maybe ownership changed recently? Who knows. But for now donât trust the good...
Read moreAfter hours of beach play it was fantastic to discover this charming place open late Sunday afternoon. The staff was cheerful and welcoming. Restrooms spotless. We ordered our food to go for dashboard dining and the server offered to run it to us when ready, which was really appreciated. The chicken wings were very large so 6 was plenty. Spicy was just right, not too hot, but flavorful. It came with crisp, fresh celery and carrots that balanced the blue cheese dip. The smoked ahi tuna melt was a standout. Crisp exterior, well seasoned, and the filling wasnât overflowing. We both really liked the potato salad. It is as special as others have written. Our compliments to the chef. But hereâs the best part. Our server put little moist towelettes in our to go bag. Weâd washed up during the order process so it was appreciated to have them for cleaning our hands after we finished the delicious meal. Weâre 3 years into Covid inspired car dining for our remote nature road-trips and this is the first time weâve been offered towelettes. Itâs the little things like that that flip this very good experience...
