This place is listed on a site for professional travelers, meaning people who stay longer than a few weeks and are working pretty much everyday. It should not be listed there, at all. Before arriving, when I committed to staying here, I only requested the ability to put my clothing away and a way to prepare my meals. Upon my arrival, neither of these things were put into place. I had to make my very simple request, again and I was met with opposition and multiple reminders that their place is not intended for long-term use.. THEN WHY ARE YOU LISTING YOUR PLACES ON A SITE FOR LONG TERM USE??? There were spiders everywhere so I also had to spray to attempt to get rid of the bugs. I still saw spiders everyday up until I left. I don't suggest any traveling professionals stay at this location. Find a place where the "owners" are more business savvy and realistic about what the places are meant for and how to serve the needs of its customers. I had to end my contract early and was quite honestly ready to leave the location. I paid for the whole month of July end of June because I wasn't aware of what things I would have to deal with that would change my schedule. I was told that I would get a refund for pro-rated rent. The day that I was leaving, Sue does a walk through with me, comments on how quiet of a guest I was for the 6 weeks that I ended up staying. I was working everyday... She had a tightly folded paper in her hand and asked me if I wanted a receipt. I said sure, She handed me this tightly folded paper and said "Oh, we're not doing the pro-rated thing anymore, Pat will send you the deposit back." Being that I do not play people's petty games, I got into my vehicle and left but definitely felt like they were being shady. There were some exchanged texts, Sue attempted to call me, call was rejected because at that point, we didn't need to talk. I would not recommend anyone stay at this location when in the area for work. Don't waste your time. It'll turn into a headache. The lake is beautiful and Boat Town Burgers, around the corner has great food and a great atmosphere. Other than that, stay someplace else for any time longer than a weekend so that you have what you need and don't have to deal with...
Read moreWe took our first camping trip in our Airstream this weekend. After a week in a State park, we arrived at Valentines on Thanksgiving Eve. We were pretty worn out from driving 5 hours from our last campsite and had called 12 restaurants in Kingsland to find a meal that we didn’t have to cook at such a late hour. I called and asked Pat if she knew any restaurants open on Thanksgiving Eve. She insisted that we come to her home for leftovers from a humongous meal that she and many, many friends had cooked earlier. She brought us 3 heaping plates of every kind of homemade ham, turduckin, casseroles, cornbread, potatoes, cranberry relish, green beans and a heaping plate of 5 different desserts. Pat and Susan are the #1 hosts of any type of RV park we have ever been to. They went out of their way (on a holiday) to make sure we had everything we needed to get settled in. Their kindness and willingness to help will never be forgotten and will be paid forward, I promise! All this was in addition to the most gorgeous spot on the lake with manicured lawns and many many places to sit and enjoy the lake, right in front of you. The cabins are also wonderful, as we had 16 family members staying in cabins. They are very well stocked, clean, comfortable and cozy. When you visit Valentines Lakeside, it doesn’t feel like you are staying in a resort…it feels like home! We will definitely be going back many, many times to enjoy this slice of paradise. I will never be able to express my gratitude and respect for Susan and Pat. Frannie and Gabe...
Read moreValentine Lakeside was exactly what my family needed before starting a new school year. From ages 24 to 71, we were all completely enamored by our experiences at the resort. We spent mornings enjoying coffee and conversation on the front porch in the breeze coming off of the lake. We loved the chickens and the kittens were entertaining little hosts as well. The owners could not have been more accommodating and are genuinely lovely people. We met one of them in Oregon a few years ago and learned she had purchased a place in Texas, so decided to check it out. The cabin (#10) where we gathered was clean and comfortable and provided ample gathering space both inside and out. We only had to make decisions as to whether we'd spend the day floating in the lake or the pool. There were ample food and grocery offerings nearby and we especially enjoyed breakfast at the Lazy Heron. We also enjoyed some time in Austin before catching a plane home, so the location worked well for us. Coming from Oregon and Louisiana, we were all in agreement that this will be an...
