I checked into the Microtel Huntsville on Wednesday, March 13th 2019 at approximately 7:30 pm. I had with me; my 3 year old daughter and 2 dogs.
Upon entering the room I immediately noticed that multiple drawers were hanging off their tracks and exposed wires to the air conditioning unit. I was exhausted from our drive and was going to let all of that pass.
About 10 minutes after entering the hotel room and settling my toddler and dogs, I noticed my senior dog (10 years old) chewing on something. I immediately put my hand in his mouth to find out what it was and to my shock, I pulled out a large pill. Half of it was already swallowed.
I immediately called an emergency vet that I found on google and they told me I could either bring him in ($95 just to get into a room at the clinic) or call the pet poison control hotline. I called the poison control hotline but they couldn’t even speak to me without first paying a $69 fee. So I then called the human poison control hotline but they couldn’t help me because it was a pet that ingested the medication.
I went into full panic attack mode. I was sobbing and worried that my dog was going to get sick. I ended up calling the front desk and speaking to the gentleman that answered the phone. He said he was the manager. I told him what happened and he just said “sorry”. I told him the room needed to be vacuumed. That there were hair ties and other left over things on the floor in addition to the pill that my dog had ingested.
As I was waiting for him to send someone up to vacuum the room, I took pictures of the pill and all of the other things that were not up to par in the room. While taking pictures, I noticed even more exposed wires, an exposed electrical outlet and what looked like mold on the bottom part of the wall in the bathroom. (Pictures attached to email.)
I then had a knock at the door. The manager had brought a vacuum to my room. He then left, leaving me to vacuum the room myself. I did not vacuum myself because at this point, I decided it was time to leave.
I packed up my stuff, my toddler and my dogs and sat outside the property while on a 4 way call with corporate and my husband.
Unbeknownst to me, there was a conference in town and everything was booked. I drove to 3 hotels. Exhausted. With my child crying since we had been in the car for so long and my dogs getting anxious. All while I’m trying to concentrate on the road while worrying about my dog who ingested a pill. After getting turned down at 3 hotels I finally ended up at the Red Roof Inn and Suites. They have a 1 pet maximum and originally told me they couldn’t accommodate me. I went to my car defeated. I cried and figured we’d be sleeping in the car that night because I wasn’t in any shape to drive after this. 10 minutes later, the gentleman at the front desk knocked on my window and told me to come in and that they would have a room for me. There was ONE room left at this hotel. A suite that dogs aren’t allowed in. There was one guest that hadn’t checked in yet so he gave me their room and they would be given the suite.
We called corporate and made a case against the property. We were told that the owner of this location had until the 19th of March to refund my money. If not, Wyndham would and then take it up with the owner.
I called the property 3 times. Three separate days and only on the last day did I finally get the owner to take my call. I told him what happened that night. That I have a case number and that I would like a refund. He said “I’m not refunding you. I’ll take it up with the franchise.” And he hung up before I could get another word in.
I am extremely disappointed in the way I was treated at this property and the way this property prepares their room for guests. I have never in my life stayed at a hotel in such bad shape. And we stay in a lot of hotels being a military family.
We still have no idea what the pill was but thank the lord, my...
Read moreWorst hotel experience that I've had in a long time. I'll start by stating that I travel 4-7 days every week for work. I'm experienced on this matter.
I went in on a Monday, to pay for my stay. I told the (new) lady with glasses who happened to be working the front counter that I was going to stay that Monday night the 31st, skip Tuesday night the 1st, and stay again on Wednesday night the 2nd. She said "well we're going to be booked solid for the weekend due to a motorcycle convention and we won't have room for you starting on Thursday the 3rd." I told her that's fine... I only needed a night for the Monday and Wednesday this week. She booked me for 3 nights. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. My stays are tax exempt, and I was charged taxes, after providing proper tax exempt documentation. They won't give you a written receipt until after you've checked out, so I didn't know what I was charged until I looked at my credit card activity, later the same night. The room was small, there was no refrigerator, and the Internet, even at 4:30pm (before most of the other guests arrive,) was entirely inaccessible. It was too slow to load any page at all.
When I returned, later the same night, I informed the (same new) lady at the front desk that I was charged incorrectly, and taxes were added to my stay. There was another (experienced, very helpful) lady there who was able to help her get that straightened out and fix everything. I paid for my single night, tax free, and my reservation was made for Wednesday night, the 2nd. (Again.) I went back up to my room to try the Internet again, and again, was frustrated when I couldn't load more than a few half pages of (text and small images only) web pages after about 15 minutes of trying.
I returned on Wednesday, around 8:30pm, ready to check in for the night and get some rest, only to be told by the same (newer lady with glasses) that she told me on Monday that they were booked for the week, and that they still didn't have any more rooms available. My reservation was never made, according to her.
Meanwhile, in the lobby, there was a lady talking to another gentleman saying that her room had been given to someone else when she tried to check in earlier that night, and wasn't going to be given a room either until she threatened to write management about it and complain. At which point her room magically reappeared, and they were no longer sold out.
I ended up driving 20 minutes up the road and paid $40 more (because of this motorcycle convention,) for a different hotel at the last minute than what I would have paid here, had my reservation simply been honored and not given away.
I'll be writing management as well, but first, I'm going to warn everyone else here first, so they can know what to expect. Don't expect them to honor your reservation, don't expect an ounce of competence or honesty if you deal with the same lady I dealt with on both of those nights, don't expect a mini refrigerator, and don't expect an Internet service that...
Read moreOn May 26th I used Expedia and booked a single Queen room for a one-night stay on May 29th. I booked the single Queen room because both my wife and I use CPAPs and the images on the site indicated each side would have its own nightstand i.e. somewhere convenient to put the CPAPs. After traveling almost 500 miles we got there to check in and were informed that there were no Single Queen rooms available even though that was what we had reserved, and that we would have to take a double-queen room. The first room we were put in (306) reeked of moisture, wet dog and black mold when we walked in. We promptly asked for another room at which point we got diverted to room 309. When we walked into 309 we were so exhausted from the travel that even though we vaguely smelled smoke (in a property that is touted as smoke-free) we didn't smell wet dog or black mold so we promptly tried to collapsed into bed to get some rest. As we were getting around though, the issues with the room became....overtly un-avoidable.
The smoke detector had been removed from the ceiling and the wires for it were freely hanging. Half the lights above the bed did not work. Pretty sure the light switch had a short. The clothes iron was missing. There was a cushioned seat above the AC unit. One side of the cushion was sun-rotted and cracked horribly, the other side had a burn mark from the missing clothes iron. The previous resident had left a "Mom" necklace hanging on the mirror in the bedroom, and the cleaning staff had apparently not seen it. The cleaning staff had also not seen the dirty, smudged mirrors above the beds Someone had taken a wad of toilet paper and soaked it in water, then used it to block off the other smoke detector. The thermostat on the wall did not work. The marble sink top had literally been broken in half, and I'm honestly not sure what was holding it in place. There were holes in the wall in the bathroom where the hair dryer had been ripped from the wall. There were specks of black mold above the shower in the ceiling. There was a line of black mold at the top of the shower where it met the drywall. The drywall in the hallways outside the room were so scuffed up it literally looked like a construction zone, although it was clear that construction was not taking place.
I've traveled a lot, and I like to stay as cheaply as I can. That being said, I made the mistake of not checking the reviews on this site before booking because of the Wyndham name. That is not a mistake I will ever repeat. This place is horrible. I will not be back, and if this is the state of affairs that Wyndham allows to be attached to its name I'll be checking reviews very closely before I ever stay at another Wyndham property of...
