This place is clearly popular with the locals, and had us wondering if that led to a little bit of disdain for tourists. We found the campground in a web search and needed a place to stay for the night. We called ahead expecting that we were too late to reserve, but a ranger answered and said "we have plenty of sites for the nigh but let me go ahead and get your reserved in because I won't be here when you arrive (we were about 1.5 hours out). I asked for a little detail on site options, and he said "I've put you on a really huge site, 89 feet long". Since we are a tiny travel trailer and a pickup truck it seemed like overkill, but so be it. He took our credit card info and booked the reservations for us. On arrival, we saw a ranger in a truck looking like he was leaving. We spoke briefly, and reiterated that he was leaving. We found site 31 using the online map, and sure enough it was very long... and very narrow. Across the street was an equally narrow site... or was it? No, it was actually our picnic table and fire ring some 50 or 60 feet away from our site across the road. We saw the ranger go by a time or two more, and I couldn't help but speculate that he was wondering what we were going to say about having a site with a two lane road through the middle of it. We were too tired to do anything but plug up and settle in. There were plenty of other sites, and since we were leaving in the AM any of them should have been available. I am perplexed by how a park makes the decision to build a road through a campsite, but who am I to judge? We walked to the bath house that the ranger had described as '50 feet or so away', but it was more like 250, but close enough. It was obviously used for the folks using the lake recreational facilities, and was in pretty poor shape. The mens room had no curtains on the showers at all, and my wife reported the same from the ladies. We slept well, even with the boulevard at our front door. We were jarred awake (we are late risers) by a rap at the door at around Too Early AM by a nice camp host asking if we were checking out. "Well yes...." surprised to hear that there was some question about that. He was very nice, and moved along, but passed by several more times on his cart as we buttoned up for the road. We were out well ahead of check out time, but not fast enough I suppose. We drove through a couple more camping loops to look around and spotted the camp host and wondered if he danced a jig that his job was complete once we left the park. BTW, evidently we got 'lucky' with the phone reservation. The website says there is a 'county policy' against them accepting them. In hindsight, I would have rather just come in and parked on an unreserved site of our...
Read moreWent to take kids swimming to beat the heat and have some family fun.... The beach area was closed so no swimming. When I arrived my children, agea 1 & 5, had fallen asleep. So I utilized the time to clean my car. The babies woke up to a beautiful cool breeze, I figured they could play for awhile. So I am backed into a shady spot, brought food to grill out. (A planned day) An older man pulls in crooked in the two spots next to me as if he were going to drive into my driver's side of my vehicle. He was in a Camry, he St there and watched me on the passenger side as I changed my daughter's diaper, just staring. The lot was damn near empty, approx 5 cars total. Then he takes off and parks by the restroom. Got out and lurked around then sat on a swing by the lot for boats. I took my son to go potty tried the playground, but my one year kept going in the tunnel. At the other end there are 3 open sides she could have fallen from and no steps or quik access for me to meet her at the other side. The man, still swinging near by, made me very uncomfortable and as a result we left. It ruined our good time. It seems more like a closed community to and for the RV campers you have to drive past to access the "park." Where I come from you go to a park to enjoy the outdoors and relax. I am unsure if he worked at the park but he was a couple feet from my car parked the wrong way facing into the driver's side. W/ two little ones(very active) he made me very uncomfortable as if I had to watch my back rather than relax w my babies. Not a good time for someone traveling. If he worked at the park, shame on him for running folks off. I was minding my own business trying to beat the heat and enjoy the view...
Read moreGot a last minute reservation a bit unplanned, so not sure how difficult it is to get in normally. We were in site 29 which is closest to the water, however a ton of construction happening the other side of our site/chain link fence then large parking lot. Fire pit is close to edge of site so much you couldn't sit in your chair between the chain link fence and fire pit. Little trees in this area and fairly close together, however the next section over is very wooded which we would prefer and will reserve next time. My impression the grass-only area caters more to the tailgaters/TV watcher type of campers (we are the nature/hammock/kayaking type, just for reference). The camp store was small but has most of the necessities (no fridge stuff tho, and a small ice cream selection).
Today is first day the boat launch and kayak launch are open, and they are great! We launched our kayaks from the boat launch just because we didn't want to lug the heavy one from parking lot to the launch (boat launch obvi we can unload and we're there). The rest of the new stuff is under construction but looks like it will be AMAZING! There is a sandy beach area, swimming area surrounded by a CIRCULAR pier that will have swings and picnic tables, and fishing to the outer side of the pier (obviously not the inner side since that's where swimmers will be). There are lots of cool beach chairs and sunshades that will be great. Restrooms right there, along with a playground, picnic tables w grills, and the aforementioned parking lot.
For our short weekend trip, we are pleased with Ebenezer and will be back again soon. Everything appears clean and well kept, and the price was great for a full...
