Nice hotel but we have a few gripes. We're Diamond Elite members and love Staybridge Suites. It's the first Staybridge we've stayed at that doesn't have free laundry. The machines were nice and clean but they charged. $3 per wash plus they put a $7 hold on your card. No big deal but we stay at Staybridge Suites for all the amenities so paying for laundry seems picayunish.
Most IHG hotels put a $50 hold for incidentals on the card. Not here! Perish the thought Fearless Traveler! Here they put a $150 hold for incidentals. Just another way to gouge the customer.
At check in they told me they charge $20 per day to park which is also really cheap. This hotel is pricey to begin with and the parking lot isn't a downtown high rise parking garage in the middle of the city but an open lot with plenty of spaces. So to me it's gouging the customer. I never saw any security out there-not that it's needed-but charging to park here is cheap.
We're in a band so oftentimes we're up late doing laundry or wandering around talking on the phone or buying a candy bar or whatever. No big deal. None of us drink or party or anything. My pal and I were in the lobby around midnight the first night we were there and wandered thru the breakfast dining area to check out the gas grill )thinking we might cook burgers the next afternoon) and to just look around real quick as we'd never stayed at this place before. We're out there for 2 minutes and the front desk guy comes out and informs us we're not allowed outside in the common area after 11pm! We were simply chatting quietly for a minute. He said we weren't allowed out there or in the lobby after 11pm. No congregating on premises after 11pm. He claimed it's a city ordinance but it sounds like horse manure to me. How can a city tell an establishment how they can run their business? Regardless they're a hotel and we're paying to stay there-so not letting us stand there and chat for a sec was ridiculous not to mention lame. The gentleman was apologetic but the whole thing was weird and lame when we were just talking quietly. Again I've never seen anything like this at any IHG hotels period.
The front desk people seemed nice enough. The fitness center is clean. Public restrooms were clean. Laundry area is nice and clean and orderly. The employees all seemed pleasant also. Our room was clean and quiet. As far as the hotel itself it's fine-but be prepared to cough up dough for everything from parking to laundry. I haven't looked at my credit card receipt to see how much they charged me for a bottle of water and a Klondike bar but I'm sure it's way way overpriced. With prices what they are and inflation through the roof it would be nice for hotels to at least make you feel like you're welcome. After we got booted from the outside patiio area because it was after 11pm I kind of soured on this place. Still love IHG hotels and I'll stay here again if I have to but we have other HIX locations in Orange County we would go to before this place simply because of the 11pm curfew. If you're paying close to $300 per night for a hotel it's a bit thick to be told you can't be in...
Read moreI was working an event near the airport and decided to stay in the area. I had stayed at an IHG property in Anaheim a few months back and didn’t have much experience with IHG properties outside of this. Back in the 90’s I worked in Food and Beverage at the Holiday Inn Maingate, Anaheim for a few years so I have some understanding of how a hotel is supposed to run and the importance of providing guests a positive experience. Given that I was paying the peak rate for my room, my expectations might have been somewhat elevated. The hotel was clean and relatively quiet throughout my stay. The light breakfast that is included was executed well and the items were fresh with the exemption of a platter of over ripened bananas. I stayed two nights and didn’t have maid service during the stay as is now customary in the today of Covid-19. My trouble with my stay began when my stay ended and I was on a plane to NYC. When my plane landed I received several alerts for missed calls. They had been left by several Front Desk staff at Staybridge. I was alarmed by their sense of urgency and eventually heard one message in which they identified why they were calling although it didn’t justfy the frantic behavior. I was told that my Visa card was declining additional charges that were being levied against me because “they found evidence that I had been smoking in the room.” Now I don’t smoke and tried to figure out what this was about, giving them the benefit of the doubt, and it was only after I got to my hotel in New York that I realized what might have happened. The event I was working the night before included a cigar lounge and when I took my Tux out of the garment bag it reeked of Cigar odor. As soon as I had the opportunity I emailed the Manager at Staybridge and shared what I believed was the misunderstanding, expecting it to be resolved. However, the manager initially didn’t respond to my email and finally replied after I sent him a second email. The manager however, clearly had his heels dug in on the issue and included photos of the “evidence of smoking” that I was now clearly being accused of. They include only a photo of a sink with a plate, glass and spoon in it; a photo of the floor which was just that, the floor; and a photo of the toilet bowl. (I’ve added these photos to my review). No cigarettes, cigars, joints, crack pipes, burns or butts. Their trumped up “evidence” was nothing out of the ordinary for a room that had been occupied for two nights, three days and no maid service. I explained this in my third email to the manager and never received a response. I’m led to believe that this was a tactic that the management uses to increase revenue. As a result of this, management has not only refused to return my initial deposit but attempted to levy additional charges on my Visa card. This is Conspiracy and Fraud and it’s illegal. I would like my security deposit returned and compensation for the distress inflicted upon me and time and effort spent in working to resolve get this...
Read moreI wouldn’t recommend this hotel at all. Front desk and the manager is very rude. We travel everywhere with my service dog. My service dog has been allowed to cruises, Airbnb, 5-star hotel, our timeshare in Cabo, airplane, restaurants, and even my work which I get inspected by the health department twice a year. But, this hotel charges a pet cleaning fee no matter if your dog is a service animal or not. Upon check-in was smooth. Out of respect and we do it at all the places we stayed at as I have all the documentations if needed and I have nothing to hide, I do let the front desk know that I am traveling with a service dog even though I am not required to disclose it. The front desk started having me sign an agreement of all the extra charges I will incur if “my pet” does this and that and states that there is a $50 per night cleaning fee. I then requested to speak to the manager, the manager was very short with me and basically stated that each hotel has a different policy regarding service animal and pet policy. This particular hotel has their own policy which all pets whether it’s a service animal or not will stay with a fee. The manager didn’t want to hear what I had to say and explained that they charge for a cleaning fee to maintain the cleanliness of the hotel. It was late and we were tired from a long drive so I told my husband that we’re only staying for 2 nights so let’s just go to the room and handle this incident later. When we got to our room, it seems like it was a joke and it was clear that the reasoning behind charging a cleaning fee for a trained service animal was just out to get you to pay extra because the room was in a poor condition. The floor was dirty, the couch has a mildew smell and the tv was cracked. My husband went downstairs to complain about the condition of our room while I am contacting IHG hotel to report the incident with the surprised charges for my service animal, I was told by the guest relation I was corresponding with of the policy that I am aware of that I should be protected under ADA laws which prohibits the charging service animal fee and they do not fall on the “pet category”. As my husband was reporting the condition of the room to the front desk and the manager, they offered to have my husband looked at another room for us to move to. It was worst than the room we are currently in. It seems like their cleaning standard is not even to the level for humans to stay but want to charge a train animal to say they want to maintain the cleanliness of the hotel, what cleanliness?? My husband decided for us to check out from this ran down hotel and found a different hotel, we instead checked-in at Irvine Marriott. The room is cleaner, they did not charge us for my service animal to stay and the service was great! IHG hotel chain discriminates toward having service animal. They are terrible! Find a different hotel...
