We stayed here because it was the closest Marriott to Holiday World. I prefer Marriott/Ritz Carlton Resorts. Last year we stayed in a cabin at Lake Rudolph Camping Resort which was nice for location, but you had to bring everything with you. This year I wanted something simple and easy, this was it! We had breakfast every morning which provided a variety of choices for everyone’s taste and sat outside one morning which was beautiful! We walked across the bridge to find a playground on the other side and a train on the front side of building which the kids climbed up on. Very child friendly! All the employees were very nice, especially the manager.
Parking - parking is on the other side of the train tracks on front side of building. You can drop off your belongings, get a cart (if needed), and then drive around to parking place. The entrance to the Marriott is a little tricky, I drove up on the sidewalk/train tracks, then came off the curb. We were told this happens a lot and they are looking to fix this.
Check-in and check-out. Easy especially if you are a Marriott Rewards Customer and have the Marriott Bonvoy app on your phone. Front desk staff are very friendly.
Breakfast. It is complimentary, one reason I like staying at the Fairfield Inns. Great variety and drinks for all. Coffee for me and allowed me to stay on a Keto diet! Clean environment.
Pool. A little chilly, but kids loved it. Towels provided.
Room. Clean. Microwave and refrigerator in room. Beds could be a little more comfortable, but the pillows were very soft and comfortable. Cleaning crew missed taking out trash from room and bathroom one day (hopefully a one time miss). Bath tub/shower stocked with shampoo, conditioner and bath wash.
Location. Easy 20 minute drive to Holiday World. Several Dollar stores along the way, just in case you forgot something. Dairy Queen near. Try the Mill House for dinner! Local Mexican restaurant, Los Bravo’s, was okay. Fresh guacamole made in front on you was delicious.
Overall, great place to stay and family/kid friendly! We...
Read moreThis hotel has both unethical and frankly unsafe practices. They will give your room away if they can rebook others at a higher rate, even if you show up in person for your stay with small children in tow. The manager, Chelsea, will show no remorse. We booked connecting rooms six months in advance on April 20,2024. They said they would be able to do it but to call back closer to make it official. So two months in advance of our reservation we called back to reconfirm on August 5, 2024. We were ensured we were confirmed, connecting rooms was noted on the reservations, and we also had pack n plays reserved. Fast forward to today, now technically yesterday as I write this at 1am while driving to new lodging, we arrive with our 1 year old and 2 year old at 11pm at night after a long day of travel, and they refused us the rooms we reserved. Their suggestion was to have two toddlers stay in a separate room from us (parents)… ummm I have no words for this. The kicker was that they actually had connecting rooms available tonight and REFUSED to put us in it bc our reservation overlapped a weekend wedding several days away. I asked what about our reservation that we made first, and confirmed first, 6 months ago, and I even showed record of the various phone calls to their direct line when I had called to confirm connecting rooms. All we could gather was that our rate was much cheaper than the wedding block rates so we were being kicked out and there was nothing we could do about it. Ultimately we were left high and dry at midnight in the middle of nowhere with an infant and a toddler. Chelsea the manager said they absolutely would not honor the reservation and that we could either sleep in a separate room from our kids or we could cancel but under no circumstances could we use the empty connecting rooms just sitting there. Why?! This woman had never met us, and this was all being done over the phone. We cancelled (obviously). So to recap, this hotel has both unethical and frankly...
Read moreBooked the room on points. When we opened the door, the room smelled like a moldy basement. Called the desk and requested a change to another room and the front desk clerk indicated none were available. Going to the Bonvoy app, I was able to book another room as it showed availability. I went to the desk and showed the information to the clerk who indicated online booking is not correct. (When you call Marriott they strongly encourage booking directly on-line.) Again a switch was not available as she was told by the manager "not to allow any switching." I called Marriott reservations and to no surprise she was able to book me a room. It was at that time I explained to her that I was indeed already in a room with mold and was being refused a change yet she was able to get a room for me. The reservation associate indicated she needed to get customer care involved and transferred me. The customer care associate indicated they would call the hotel and try to find out what was going on. He came back on the phone flustered and suggested I should wait for the manager, who was coming in shortly. Needless to say, I left and secured a room at another nearby non-Marriott location.
Additionally these three things would have not kept me from staying but are noteworthy: Fourth and first floors had multiple decorative sconces with lights flickering as if they were shorting out. Parking is not at the hotel. It is across a street and train tracks in a small area and in front of a depot. None of our portfolio requests were met. If this is how Marriott treats loyal customers, our family will be...
