Me and several friends and members of my family camped at Kerrville-Shereiner park for 9 days in September. We were all in bumper-pull campers, with all but one having full facilities in the campers. We were originally assigned to the Sycamore Circle, but since the closest bathroom/bath house was on the Pecan loop, and our friends without facilities in their camper would have had to trek long distances all the time, we moved to Pecan Loop.||||The river-side of the park itself is quite nice (we did not venture to the non-river-side of the park). There are nice little cabins located on the river bank, though we didn’t go inside any of them. Sycamore Circle is not very shaded, but has full hook-ups, including gray/black water hookups for our campers. However, each picnic table on the Sycamore Circle sites are shaded. Pecan Loop is VERY shady and also has full hook-ups as well, but is closer to the main road, and thus noisier due to road traffic. If you’re camping in the middle of the summer, Pecan is the place to be becuase of the natural shade. If it's raining or cool and breezy, Sycamore is the place to be becuase it stays drier and drains better (it rained for two days and Pecan was soggy). There is a nice mix of wild life around the park, with all the standard rodents (squirrels, raccoons, etc), and a herd of deer that hangs around in the evenings. No open alcohol containers/consumption, but frankly, the grounds were lightly patrolled in the evenings by what appears to be “volunteers” living there in their own campers near the front of the park. The bath house was indeed pretty bad. They seemed to be kept “clean as possible”, but the facilities were quite shabby. One of our party used the washers/dryers provided by the park, located on the other side of the road, and reported they were old and did a poor job getting clothing clean. Many public RV sites are starting offer WiFi internet, but no such luck here. Several people brought small dogs, and this wasn't a problem so long as they were not left unattended. The park itself is kept up well, is clean, and is open.||||I absolutely DID see potential for the front staff to get rude, but with some sweet-talking, flirting, and lots of smiles, she turned out to be quite accommodating. The prices were reasonable, and there was easy access into Kerrville and the surrounding areas.||||We would...
Read more(1/5 stars) - Inappropriate Staff Behavior and Harassment**
Extremely uncomfortable experience that overshadowed what should have been a pleasant stay.
I visited this park while in Kerrville on official business for the judicial branch of Texas. While the park itself is beautiful, the staff behavior was completely unacceptable and concerning.
Major Issues:
Inconsistent rule enforcement: Around 9:30 PM, I observed someone hitchhiking on the highway walk directly onto the property, use the showers (which clearly state "attention permit required for all shower usage"), exit a few minutes later, and walk back off onto the highway. He walked right past the "volunteer" and the "volunteer" did nothing.
Inappropriate nighttime encounter:Around 9:00 PM that same evening, a park volunteer crept up on my vehicle in the dark while I was changing clothes. Despite me clearly stating from a distance that I was changing, he seemed to quicken his pace toward me. He demanded $27 cash only for the camping fee, refusing my offer to write card information on the form. When I explained I didn't have cash at the moment, he forced me to break camp and leave to find an ATM. When I told him "I'm changing, do you mind?" he just stood there with his mouth open staring at me before finally walking away. This felt like voyeuristic behavior.
Continued harassment: The next morning at 7:45 AM, staff were again perving around my vehicle while I was trying to sleep. Very awkward and inappropriate.
Maintenance issues: Air dryers in restrooms don't work.
Why did the hitchhiker get a complete pass while I got harassed and perved on? This experience felt predatory and inappropriate. Beautiful location, but the staff behavior raises serious safety concerns, especially for families with children. Must be one of "those" parks - children beware. One bad experience like this negates any...
Read moreBeautiful park, with a lovely camping area. I gave it 3 stars due to the strange people who hang out in the park. While I was playing with my child alone I noticed a van circling the park first two men in suits came out and approached a couple maybe 200 or more yards away. I saw them talk to the couple for a little but didn’t think anything of it. Then the men got back in and drove slowly passed the camping area. I told my kiddo look don’t get scared but I think this van is going to approach us (used the safe word) he said okay mommy you do the taking. Sure enough red van pulls up next to us while we’re eating snacks in the back of my car. This time a woman came out and the men in suits did not, as she approached us maybe 20ft away I kindly told her “we’re at the park enjoying ourselves, that I kindly decline anything she wanted to share with me” the woman had a binder of paper with her. She probably wanted to pray or recruit me to her religious group. Whatever it was I was firm in my statement . “Thank you but no thank you” she then says it’s just something positive we wanted to share. I then grip my waist where I carry my safety knife and hand my phone to my son who begins calling grandma. Once again “thank you but no thank you” (firmer and with an irritated tone) She sees this and turns around they sit in their van for awhile and then drive away. Since I’m not from this town we left immediately. It may have been a religious group trying to share scripture, but this mom was not taking any chances. Be careful and aware of your surroundings. Also don’t harass a mom alone with her kid...
