We had to find an Inn that had air conditioning in a pinch. One of our party does not do well in heat, and wouldn’t you know it, we came to Vermont the one weekend of the year when the heat and humidity felt more like Florida than New England.
Greenbrier came through in fantastic form. A room was made ready. It was comfortable and functional. The grounds and surroundings were pleasant and relaxing. The owner and staff were welcoming and very attentive.
The Greenbrier is not a cookie cutter hotel chain like so many of the larger name corporations out there. Green Brier is family owned and run. The accommodations are just as good, and in many cases even better than a chain, with the added benefit of committed staff who come across as genuinely interested in each and every guest. The Inn is very clean and well kept. There are inviting places to sit and relax everywhere throughout. The Décor is homey and warm.
An oddity that tickled me and stuck with me: The sheer number of magazines was incredible. There is reading material everywhere you look in the lobby, halls, and bedrooms. It tickled me to see so many laid out. That said, not a single area came across as cluttered, and the magazines were all positioned with precision on table tops.
I hope to visit them again in the future.
EDIT and ADDED - I have to disagree with RC Handel’s input. I stayed at Green Brier, it seems, in the same time frame as this person. My room was received very clean. They did not do a cleaning sweep every day in every room, but that is typical even for chains. There was a full ice machine in the stairwell at the back of the Inn, easily accessible from the first floor. The Toilet’s fan was loud, but this is a remarkably shallow complaint. Better a loud working fan, than a bathroom without a fan. The Inn was very clear that breakfast ended at 9:30am when I asked, so we got ourselves out of bed on...
Read moreIt was as chilly October evening and we had been on the road for a good 8-9 hours, cruising from the immensly busy New York City to the quaint and peaceful village of Killington. It must have been around 10pm late in the evening when, upon arrival, we were instantly warmly welcomed by the most-friendly owner (forgive me, I don't remember if it was Steve or Otto).
The kind gentleman welcomed us and made us literally feel at home in seconds by being personally interested in us and our journey and he felt genuinly happy to tell us more about the Greenbrier Inn, Killington and its surroundings by telling what amenities and restaurants were closeby and open at this time of the day.
The Greenbrier Inn itself is the most cosy and warm please you will ever visit in the New England region, and place feels like a second home instantly that you will regret to not stay any longer. Due to a tight schedule we were only able to stay for 1 night, but we could stay for many more nights for sure. I bet in winter it is EVEN more cosy and it makes your heart melt from its warmhearted staff.
The Inn is comfortable, intimate, peaceful and excellently located nearby larger highways. The rooms, like the Inn in general, has a "mountain cabin interior" style, which for some people may feel "outdated". For us it was exactly the style we were looking for, and with us many more visitors. The breakfast and coffee is limited, but perfectly fine and very tasty to have a great start of the day! Remember that this type of accommodation is for those who can appreciate personal attention, don't require 5-star amenities and are mainly looking for relaxation and a small town feeling.
Visiting the Vermont/New Hampshire requires a certain mindset is for a select group of people who can appreciate its beauty. To them I can promise that their stay at Greenbrier Inn will be a delight and gift...

Let me tell you, finding the Greenbrier Inn wasn't just a stroke of luck – it was a game-changer for our Killington ski trip. From the moment we stumbled upon its glowing online reviews, we knew we'd hit gold.
And boy, were we right. This charming haven tucked away near the resort is about as close to ski-in/ski-out bliss as you can get. Plus, with an abundance of restaurants just a hop, skip, and jump away, post-shredding refuelling is as easy as pie.
But the Greenbrier's magic goes far beyond its prime location. It's the people who truly make it shine. Steve, the heart and soul of the Inn, is simply phenomenal. He didn't just meet our needs – he anticipated them. A warm welcome call before our arrival? Check. Rooms magically ready before our official check-in time? You bet. Steve's genuine hospitality made us feel like the only guests there (even though we weren't!), and his infectious enthusiasm fueled our ski-trip spirit like a double espresso.
Honestly, words can't fully capture the essence of the Greenbrier Inn. It's a place where comfort meets convenience, warmth meets efficiency, and genuine care trumps all. It's the kind of spot that makes you sigh with contentment as you sink into your cozy bed after a day...
