If I could give this place negative stars, I would. This was the worse hotel experience I ever had and I am not over exaggerating. I booked a corner executive suite two weeks in advance and even called the hotel to extend my stay. When I arrived, I was told that the suites were not available due to water damage from burst pipes. The front desk woman, Dona, explained that this affected all the suites and this happened over a month ago. Despite being down for a month, I was still allowed to book both online and through the phone. (The suites are still available online). She apologizes and gives us a normal room and then tells us that she will send a fridge and microwave to up which will make our room “just like a suite”. She lied. We had very little room, especially when the fridge and microwave was put on the floor by the door. Then, I go to use the bathroom and when I flushed the toilet water began to leak out everywhere. It looked like I took a bottle of water and poured it on the ground. Upset about the situation, I asked to speak to the manager and was told she would not be there until 11pm. I then called corporate who told me that they are not problem solvers. Great. So I wait until management gets in. I spoke with Bertha, who was wonderful at first but quickly began lying to us as well. Bertha apologized for the inconvenience and offered to send us to another hotel for a similar price (this was my suggestion). We agreed and brought out belongings down. As we entered the lobby, she told us that there was a “cancellation” and they had a suite available and we could stay there for free. She took us to the room and told us to try it out for the night and if we didn’t like it, we could go to the other hotel for the same price. We agreed because it was the suite we wanted and it was free. We thought our troubles were over. We thanked her and as she left, she informed us that house keeping would be in to clean the next day. Ecstatic about our great opportunity, we set our things down and began to look around. To our horror, there were dead lady bugs all over the floor and hair and dead gnats in the bath tub. We called down, asked for a vacuum, and reported the problem. We, just wanting a place to lay our heads, vacuumed the entire room. The next morning we called and asked that housekeeping come clean our room as Bertha promised. The person at the front desk agreed and said they’d stop by. Not believing them, we went down to the front desk to make sure. On our way out of the room, we noticed the floor eerily quiet and most likely empty, leading us to believe that our room had be vacant for some time. We got to the front desk and asked again that our room would be serviced. The front desk person told us that they were calling housekeeping right then. When we returned to our room several hours later, the vacuum was gone but the room had not been touched. Frustrated, we called the hotel that Bertha offered to send us to just to find out that that room would have only costed this special rate for one night and we could not get it for the rest of our stay. After confronting Dona about all the lies told to us, this special rate magically appeared again and we left the hotel. Do not trust this hotel. Do not trust the staff. They are liars and they blatantly and purposefully lied to us the...
Read moreI really, really wanted to give this hotel five stars, but there are some issues which need to be addressed. I'll do my best to present a fair assessment of my stay.
Beginning with the entry, the lobby area was clean and well appointed. I was greeted by Dmitriy who was courteous, professional, friendly, well dressed, and well groomed. He ended up being the highlight of my stay. He explained that the hotel was going through some renovations so the pool and gym were closed - this wasn't an issue for me, personally, as I had no intention of using either, but something of note, none the less.
When I got to the room itself, it was clean and obviously decorated professionally. However, the carpet was noticeably stained, the plants were plastic, and room service had not emptied all the trash bins after the previous occupant had left. Had someone else been staying in this room, that may have been a problem as that person had discarded sensitive information about himself.
The bathroom was clean and well stocked; the bed was very comfortable, clean, and inviting. The coffee bar was stocked with Starbucks brand coffee as well as Tazo tea, creamer, sugar, and sweeteners. There were also two bottles of Dasani water offered free with the room and a third, larger bottle offered for $3.00.
After my first night, I checked my bank accounts (using their free wifi) before heading out for the day and saw that my room had been charged to my debit card which should not have happened as I had paid for the room using SPG points. I called the front desk and spoke with Dmitriy who explained what had gone wrong. He let me know he would contact SPG and correct the issue.
After returning that evening, I went to the in-house restaurant and bar. I looked around for a sign to designate where to wait to be seated making eye contact with the bar tender/waiter in the process. As there was no such sign, I seated myself and waited to be approached. After a 10+ minute wait, I got up to leave, but wanted to let the front desk know about my experience, first. If you guessed that I spoke with Dmitriy, you guessed correctly. He comped two drinks for me, and immediately addressed the issue with the bar tender.
Of course, I decided to stay. I first ordered a margarita, water, and the charred long stem artichokes with bean medley, spinach, and cured tomatoes. The drink was as expected; the food was amazing! I finished off the meal with a Disaronno and coffee and chocolate torte with raspberry sauce. This was a new drink for me, and I didn't particularly like it. I think this had less to do with the quality of the drink, and more to do with my particular tastes. The torte was very good and very rich; certainly an indulgence.
Each and every time I walked through the lobby, Dmitriy greeted/acknowledged me while expertly juggling customer check-ins, requests, or issues. I'm unsure of his exact title, but if he isn't management track, he should be; if he's not up for a promotion, he should be; and if he is up for a promotion, he should get it! He was always at the front desk #does he sleep?), and I was distinctly left with the impression that this hotel might spontaneously descend into infinite states of entropy were he to...
Read moreMy stay at the Wyndham in Lisle, IL was the most disappointing experience that I have ever had with a hotel. My sister and I stayed there for a training that she had with her company. When we walked into the facility, it seemed very nice. The lobby is very clean and well kept - unfortunately that is where it ended. Our room was on the fifth floor. When we exited the elevator, the smell of urine was very apparent - very similar in fact to that of a poorly maintained nursing home. Our room was decent, but not what you would expect from a Wyndham as I have stayed in them before. The beds were "springy" and worn out, and all four feather pillows were in desperate need of being replaced. As soon as you laid on them, you immediately sunk to the bottom and the sides rose up around your ears. I sleep on feather pillows at home, and I know that this is what happens when it is time to replace your pillows. The WIFI did not work on my tablet, laptop or cell phone despite numerous attempts. The shower head in the bathroom was very low, although the pressure was okay. I'm 6'0" tall, and while I realize that is substantially taller than the average female, it is my no means a height that is unfamiliar to many (particularly males). I practically had to do a squat in order to get my hair under the shower head.
After getting settled in, my sister and I asked if there was a continental breakfast as we were staying there for a business function. On most business trips, there is a breakfast provided at the expense of the company. They informed us that there was and it was located in the lobby. The next morning when we stopped down to the breakfast buffet, we asked if that was where the continental breakfast was served. The man's response was "We DO NOT serve continental breakfast at this hotel. But if you would like to PAY for your meal, here is the menu." He plopped it down in front of us and walked away. I realize many hotels do not serve "free" breakfast, that is why we specifically asked the night before. We had no problem paying for our meal, but could have used it without the side of attitude it was served with. After breakfast, we went back upstairs to our room, only to find that they had already shut our keys off. It wasn't even 8:30am at this point. All of our belongings were still inside as we had not yet checked out of the hotel. We had to go back to the front desk and have them reactivate keys. We asked why they were turned off in the first place and the response was "well, we gave you the bill." Yes, they did leave the bill by the door while we were sleeping, but we gave no indication that we were prepared to check out. Again, we were treated as though we were in the wrong.
The overall experience in this hotel was poor to say the least. We paid Wyndham prices for a Motel 6 experience. We have also shared this information with both of our companies and they will no longer be using this location for meetings and trainings as it is a poor representation for them as well. They need a serious renovation - both on service and...
