Upon arriving at Cochiti RV park, sign on window said "CLOSED" back at 8:30pm. It was 5:33. We stopped at stop sign to pick up forms to register when office is closed..(we've arrived after closing many times & have proceeded to locate spot & return w payment.) As we pulled into space 53, we noticed it was reserved for the next day so I thought we were fine. The "park attendant" quickly came up to my window & in so many words said that I shouldn't have blown past the stop sign/pay station. I told him the sign said "closed". He insisted it did not say closed ... the woman or perhaps the gentleman's wife who was behind the.pay /reception window, agreed sign said "closed" . I explained that's why we went looking for our space. You'd think I would have gotten an apology instead of her "military" parlance reference rules Etc... No smile, no courtesy. Even a gentlemen in line behind me was eagerly awaiting this tempernental attendant to accept his registration form but sternly says to him to "wait! I can only do one thing at a time !) RUDE tone. I served my country in the Navy; this lady who was on duty July 5th , has nothing on some of the fine men with whom I served ... Chill ma'am! Your husband too. You folks must be from up East somewhere. We've had better times at Cochiti. How about New Mexicans taking that job... We know...
Read moreTwo or three years ago, this was LESS than a 5-star review. But this edit sees nothing wrong with the Lake, here, and you wont find a better group of rangers, park attendants, and volunteers anywhere. They are always open, helpful, and they smile -- they are genuinely happy people. Its just a good vibe here, and while vistas are stunning here, this is true desert with all that goes with it (scorpions, coyotes at night, rattlesnakes day and night).
Oh yeah, new bathrooms, too! Along with hot showers! Make sure, if you bring your dog, that you are well practiced at getting their poop into a bag -- this is strictly enforced, but at least they have several bag stations, with covered containers, which are kept stocked with poop bags..... they try to make it as easy as possible for people still new to this. (If you bring medium to large size dog, you will absolutely need to follow this protocol if you plan to walk them, and for sure your walk never goes unnoticed). So far (summer 2025), I've seen one 'pile', and it was a tiny chihuahua-sized poop, too -- it's so nice not having the flies, the smell, the constant need to watch each step. It's a beautiful thing, when everyone's on board, and trust me, no one is willing to go back to 'old ways', regarding dog poop,...
Read moreBeautiful, quiet setting-concrete pads, sheltered picnic tables, solar-powered pole light that provides soft light to site at night. Pull-through sites are very unlevel and a bit dangerous. Be sure to set vehicle parking brakes to avoid vehicle rolling off into another site/parked vehicle (it caused a good bit of damage to our almost new unit). Bathroom and shower facilities are modern and well maintained. Except for cigarette buts on ground, sites are fairly well maintained as well. Water and electric at sites in Buffalo Grove Loop with dump station on way out of campground. A bit noisier on weekends with lots of kids in nearby loop but otherwise pretty peaceful. Unlevel pull-through sites and cigarette buts on ground were the real negatives for me, aside from the damage to our motorhome which puts it in shop for the next few...
