I chose BF Hiestand House, for spouse's surprise birthday getaway, based on the great reviews here. Excellent choice! The house is charming and well-appointed. Lots of "little" details that must only come from long experience in the business: mini-fridge for those needing to refrigerate medications, sleep machine and AC/USB outlets on the bedside table, bathrobes, flavorings for cold water drinks, light source in bathroom in case of AC outage. Loads of brochures with information on local attractions. Lots of things to do and see in surrounding area (Marietta and Columbia for us, plus a wonderful show at the Fulton Theater in Lancaster). Excellent restaurants and pubs not far away. (McCleary's was great!) The hosts, Pam and Dallas, are as nice as people you would want to meet! They are welcoming and friendly without being intrusive and they know the local area like the back of their hands. Breakfasts were splendid and unhurried. Adequate off street parking. Sure, some minor noise from the nearby highway and an odd train-whistle. but they are no match for the very comfortable beds, silent room air conditioning and ceiling fan. In sum, a great place to relax. The owners are dog lovers and welcome pets - but from the cleanliness and sense of fresh country air that pervades the house you would never suspect that a canine friend might have been a guest. Very highly recommended! Thank you for a relaxing stay...
Read moreWe stayed for only one night but will definitely be back. Hosts are personable but professional. We shared interesting conversation and received helpful information regarding local restaurants and activities. Rates were reasonable; book directly from their website to get best rate. Rooms were clean, beautifully and tastefully decorated. Our room had modern spa shower. Fast, free wifi with no dead or weak spots. There is a parking area with ample space for all guests. Breakfast was delicious and available at our convenience. We enjoyed having morning coffee in the sitting room next to the stove and look forward to enjoying the porch on our next visit when it warms up. We visited on a spring like day in March and were able to take advantage of being within walking distance to center of Marietta and Northwest Lancaster County River Trail. Trail is paved but surrounded by wooded areas and interesting rock formations so is perfect for walking and biking. Chiques Rock Outfitters is close by and has kayaks/canoes rentals when the weather is warmer. Columbia is a short drive and we plan to return to visit the Watch and Clock museum and do more browsing in the antiques shops. Mount Joy is also close where we went on a fun, amazing tour of Bube’s Brewery and had a delicious lunch including excellent beers. We highly recommend visiting the River Cities area and making the B. F. Hiestand...
Read moreFirst, I'd like to apologize to Pam and Dallas for not posting this review much, much sooner than I have. We had a house fire and some family issues which prevented me from doing so. Now on to my review : Pam and Dallas are the innkeeper's of this very Charming Victorian bed and breakfast. They are truly some of the nicest people that you will ever meet. We stayed at their bed and breakfast for our 25th anniversary. This was our first time staying here and we booked a room in the main house. A couple who had booked their best room cancelled and they offered their best room ,a cottage and the biggest upgrade that they had to us. The cottage was beautiful with a very comfortable king size bed , a fireplace and a huge jacuzzi. The breakfasts that Pam prepares each morning are mouth watering and delicious. The home is very beautiful and the accommodations are first class. There is plenty to do in the area and it is a short ride to Amish Country. Needless to say Pam and Dallas made our 25th anniversary unforgettable. We will never forget their generousity and kindness. Visit this very special bed and breakfast and see for yourself. You...
