Ho’oilo House is nothing short of magical—a true paradise on Maui. Whether you’re celebrating a honeymoon, anniversary, or simply seeking a tranquil escape, this boutique gem offers the perfect blend of luxury, serenity, and authentic Hawaiian charm. From the moment you arrive, Dan, the long-time host and owner, makes you feel like ohana (family). With over two decades of experience, he has perfected the balance of attentiveness and respect for privacy. Need advice on where to go or what to do? Dan’s wealth of local knowledge is invaluable. Prefer uninterrupted relaxation? You’ll feel as though you have the entire property to yourself. The house itself, designed in an exquisite Balinese style, is breathtaking. Open-air architecture invites the soothing Maui breezes, while every detail—from the hand-carved furnishings to the lush tropical landscaping—creates an atmosphere of pure elegance. The rooms are spacious, light-filled, and luxurious, each featuring outdoor showers and bathtubs where you can enjoy steaming hot water under the stars or as the sun rises over the West Maui mountains. Now, let me address a key concern for anyone planning a visit post-Lahaina fires: Ho’oilo House and its neighborhood, Launiupoko, remain untouched by the devastation. This area is as pristine and idyllic as you’ve always dreamed Maui would be. Plus, local restaurants, bars, and attractions are open, welcoming visitors with aloha. By staying here, you’re supporting the community at a time when it’s needed most—and the experience far surpasses that of a large resort. With complimentary breakfast, free parking, unparalleled privacy, and personal attention from the host, Ho’oilo House offers unbeatable value. If you’re unsure, I urge you to call Dan directly. His warmth and sincerity will instantly put you at ease, and you’ll quickly see why this place is so special. My wife and I both agreed: if we could redo our honeymoon, we wouldn’t hesitate to spend it at Ho’oilo House. Pro tip: While every room is a masterpiece, the Nalu room was absolutely perfect for us. Don’t overthink it—Ho’oilo House is the Maui experience you’ve been searching for. We’ll be counting down the days until we can return.

Ho‘olio is an absolute gem! My wife and I celebrated our anniversary here, and it was picture-perfect. We stayed in the Wailele room, which was spacious and featured its own outdoor seating area, garden, clawfoot tub, and outdoor shower. Breakfast each morning was excellent—fresh fruit, homemade muffins, coffee, and more. The property is stunning, with views of the West Maui Mountains in the front and the ocean with a full view of Lanai in the back. The lush grounds are filled with beautiful plants, including mango and coconut trees, and there’s a lovely pool and multiple small koi ponds. The best part was the privacy. With only a few suites and no children, everything was peaceful and pristine. Very nice to have the amenities of a resort, without needing to share them with hundreds of other guests. Parking was easy, and the neighborhood felt extremely safe. The stargazing at night was unbelievable. We saw countless stars, shooting stars, nebulae, and there was even a moonlit rainbow one of the nights we were there. The combination of privacy, peace, breathtaking views, a luxurious room, delicious breakfast, convenient location, and an outstanding host made this one of the best stays we've ever had. I can’t recommend it enough—so much character and far better than any of the chain resorts.

This is a delightful Maui jewel. When you walk in you feel like you're visiting a world explorer's house. They have six rooms that all connect to the main room, however it's rare that you will ever see the other guests except maybe at breakfast. That's fine, as you're there for a relaxing stay on the island. And it's quiet. The only noises I ever heard there were the birds chirping, water fountains trickling, and a truck backing up (we were in the suburbs after all).

While the place is technically in Lahaina it isn't anywhere near civilization. It's a 12-minute drive to the city, and Uber drivers don't like coming out here. So make sure you rent a car. And this place gets dark at night. There aren't any streetlights. The good part about that is the night sky lets you see a LOT more stars than the city. It's a wonderful experience. Launiupoko Beach Park is a 5 minute drive from here, and is a very nice beach that's rarely crowded.

Our hosts were super nice, and nothing was ever rushed. We could do everything at our own pace. We could also borrow beach towels, umbrellas, chairs, and boogie boards.

The room was clean and pretty well maintained. Despite being in a tropical environment we didn't have much of a problem with insects. There's a safe and mini fridge in the closet. There is a TV with local cable. The toilet is in a separate room, however there isn't a vent in there, so every now and then you should open all the windows to air out the room.

My favorite part of the room was the private outdoor shower. Don't worry about being seen as that wall is a good 7 feet tall. There was one time when the people in the room next door were taking their shower at the same time I was. I wanted to shout over the wall "Hello, neighbor!" but I restrained myself as I didn't want to be "that creepy guy".

Some things of note, because this is a bed and breakfast...

-There is no restaurant or bar -There are no laundry facilities, however there is a fine 24-hour coin-operated laundromat in Lahaina -There is no concierge, however the hosts can give you good ideas for fun

So yes, please stay here if you want a quiet and relaxing experience away from the bustle...
