We spent 10 days at Hotel Wailea in August 2025, and from the moment we arrived, we were amazed. The setting is absolutely stunning, the staff radiate warmth and professionalism, and the amenities provided throughout our stay made us feel genuinely cared for. It was the kind of vacation where you can truly relax and exhale—no chaos, no noise, just calm.
While we did encounter a few minor maintenance hiccups, they were resolved promptly once mentioned. What really set this hotel apart, however, was its adults-only policy. It made all the difference. The entire experience was serene and restorative. After brief visits to nearby family-friendly resorts (to grab a rental or dine out), we were always grateful to return to the quiet, refined atmosphere of our hotel.
The privacy throughout the property was also noteworthy. We rarely bumped into other guests except at the pool, and even then, there was ample space to feel like you had your own corner. Our balcony felt secluded and tranquil—perfect for a peaceful morning coffee or a quiet evening wind-down.
A huge perk? The hotel’s complimentary transportation service. Since we didn’t rent a car, we relied on the pick-up and drop-off service daily and found it swift, safe, and incredibly convenient. Whether we were heading to the beach, out for lunch, or visiting another resort, the service was seamless. The team even packed us beach essentials—umbrellas, chairs, towels, and water—without us having to lift a finger. During most of our stay, rides were just a few minutes away, though we did experience some longer wait times (up to 30 minutes) during our final days when the resort appeared a bit busier.
Pros:
The Staff & Service: The staff at Hotel Wailea are in a league of their own. From the moment we stepped out of our cab at check-in to our departure 10 days later, we were treated with sincere kindness and attentiveness. Every interaction felt warm and personal.
Guest Services: They checked in frequently, especially when we had a small issue or two. They were on top of our pre-booked experiences and even tried to arrange alternatives when one of them was canceled (we ended up opting for a refund, but the effort was appreciated).
In-room dining was a delight—meals arrived hot, beautifully presented, and consistently tasty.
Poolside service was a highlight. The staff here truly had things running like a well-oiled machine, delivering cocktails right into the pool and keeping the area immaculate.
Bell staff and valet were consistently fantastic—full of great local tips and always checking in on how we were doing. Genuinely lovely people.
Thoughtful Amenities: I want to give a special shout-out to the hotel-provided toiletries. The shampoo, conditioner, and lotions were unexpectedly luxurious—no dry skin or harsh scents here. A rare find in hotel bath products!
Cons (More like gentle nudges):
As much as we adored our stay, there were a few areas that could use a little polish:
Room Cleanliness & Maintenance: Our partial ocean-view suite was spacious, tastefully decorated, and overall very comfortable. However, some details felt overlooked—minor things like stray hairs in the kitchen area and a few crumbs on the floor that remained even after a couple of cleanings. We also noticed water stains around the sink and that the floors hadn’t been thoroughly mopped. Not a dealbreaker by any means, but with a property at this price point, you’d expect a more meticulous turnover between guests.
Bathroom Quirks: The bathroom vent didn’t seem to work upon arrival, leaving the space overly humid. Once we reported it, maintenance fixed it while we were out—smoothly handled. The high-tech Japanese-style toilet sadly never lived up to its potential. Though it flushed fine, the bidet functions were mostly out of order. After one temporary fix, we chose not to press the issue. Most noticeably, the separate toilet room had a persistently unpleasant smell—even after cleanings and with no use. It made the room feel uninviting and was probably due to a...
Read moreWe travel a lot and we go to a lot of special hotels but this one we felt had to be one of the best stays of our lives. We honestly never thought any hotel or team could top some of the experiences we have had but this place took our travel experience to another level. When we arrived we were fussed over by the bell boys. There was no push for tips which obviously we do ensure we give but it was so classy and slick how they deal with you. Thanks to Kikea & Jordan for sorting us out. Just a perfect start. We then were greeted by Aric at the front desk. He, for me, brought so much personality to the hotel. His smile and laugh is infectious and you cannot help but love him. He brought it from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. The first night we had dinner at the hotel and it was such a perfect way to start our stay. Ian, Jeremiah and Stevie Ray made the whole experience for us just so unique. The knowledge of the phenomenal wines this hotel can boast about we thoroughly enjoyed. We went for Californian wines because we have so many good wines living in Europe that are local to us we wanted to try what the US has to offer and they smashed it with what they have stocked. Stevie Ray we wanted to say thank you to for our last night and we were so glad to return to the restaurant. He did something that we just felt we would never get to experience again and it was like a perfect bucket list moment that I will remember as long as I live. Also Jeremiah was away that evening but he even left a nod to us. It was just moments full of thought and just felt like it came from the heart. Conor, LJ, Nissa & Kainoa we were so grateful to meet. They were so brilliant too and just another group of amazing team members that make this hotel great. Breakfast in this hotel is like having Michelin star quality food as soon as you wake up. Shout out for the garlic rice. I'm flying back for that alone. Jessica was great at getting us settled in a table we'd enjoy. Danny looked after us every morning and he was just another phenomenal team member. I actually felt sad when we had our last breakfast. Really says something when you know you are going to really miss an experience so much. We loved the cocktail class they do. Got so lucky to get a spot at the bar and understandably it's popular because James will have you laughing all the way. I wish I spent more time at the bar with him as yet another great personality to add to the many you'll find in this hotel. We can keep going on forever about the team at this hotel but I need to add that the rooms here are just stunning. They were so perfect for relaxing and recuperating. It was exactly what we needed from this break. The pool area was amazing. The photos do not do it justice but you'll find that out for yourself. Special shout to Dana, Derrin, Chef Ryan, Shaiyan and Tyler also. Wanted to mention them also as they all added to our holiday. I honestly cannot stop gushing about this trip and the people we met as well as how stunning the complex is. We feel like this is a team that makes it a leading hotel and staying here is worth every penny without fail. You can have a beautiful complex and amazing food but if the personalities are not there it just does not work and the team here added the x factor. Need to go back as have so much left to enjoy...
Read moreFor the price of this hotel, It was extremely disappointing. Maybe it’s because I was Traveling alone and not part of a couple I don’t know But this was my experience.
I really did expect when I got there that I would have been greeted with a mai tai and a lei or something but that did not happen. The check-in process was smooth, but not very warm or welcoming at all.
The rooms are extremely dated, the lighting is poor and for the life of me, I cannot figure out why there is not a full length mirror. This resort is for honeymooners and I imagine every woman there wants to get dressed up for dinner and maybe take a selfie with her partner, but the only mirror in there is the bathroom mirror with dismal lighting.
I do not understand why everyone says the pool is amazing. It is plain with the worst service. I sat down at the bar and the bartender barely spoke to me even though I tried to make conversation with him. Obviously, he couldn’t be bothered so I took my drink and sat down by the pool. I watched for the next several hours while the waitress walked around and never asked me if I wanted anything. Not once did she stop. I kept having to get up and go to the bar to order a drink and I was there for two hours.
A couple that evidently the bartender was familiar with, then sat at the bar and he chatted their ear off about places they needed to go visit and sites to go see. I was absolutely blown away. That’s when I got up, settled my tab and never went back to the pool.
The service at the birdcage restaurant was essentially the same. I had to get up at the end of my insanely expensive meal, and ask for my check because I sat there for 45 minutes waiting for someone to come check on me. I don’t mind paying for an expensive meal but the portions were so small that I left and went to Safeway to buy some food to keep in the kitchenette instead because I was starving.
They have little golf carts that will take you around the resort which is nice, but again, the people driving them were just so unengaging. I will say this, the kindest And most helpful staff were the valet guys. They were wonderful except for parking my rental car under a huge tree and bringing it out to me covered in bird crap and I mean ABSOLUTELY COVERED. I had to drive into town to go to a car wash Because it was THAT BAD. Now I do understand no one can control the birds because there are a lot of them, but why offer valet parking if you’re going to park it right under a tree and then bring it out to me covered in bird poop? I blame the hotel, not the valet staff for not having some type of covered parking for their valet customers.
Anyone booking this hotel should know that this hotel is ACROSS the street from the beach. I had an ocean view, but the road in front was very busy with lots of road noise so when I sat out on the patio, I got to listen to that.
The gym was nice and had a great view.
I am not one who normally writes reviews, but for $1100 a night, forgive me, but I expected a lot more.
I wound up leaving a full...
