Top 10 Homestay Recommendations in Maui, Hawaii

Five stars for everything, this guesthouse is perfect. The standout though was the kindness, helpfulness and laughter from the live in managers, John and Heather. Nothing was too much trouble. The facilities are great, with the added bonus of the use of a full kitchen. The pool area has plenty of space for sunbathing and there’s also an upstairs deck perfect for nighttime stargazing. Indoors there are several areas to relax and read or socialise with other gusts. The location is right in between Lahaina and Kaanapali beach, so about a mile to each. We didn’t have a car, but that wasn’t a problem as there’s a bus stop at the end of the road that takes you into Lahaina for a dollar or two. We walked a lot too or used Uber. We used a shuttle service to get from the airport and an Uber to return. The closest beach is only 2 blocks away, but there are lovely beaches about 20 minutes walk away. I’m looking forward to returning!

I stayed at the Maui Guest House from 6/30/23-7/5/23. A fantastic experience for someone from PA wanting to make a trip to Maui possible. Extremely affordable without sacrificing the Hawaiian paradise experience. You are at a perfect middle point of downtown Lahaina and the great beaches to the north. Also, the top deck has a hot tub and a breathtaking view of the water. The pool is also nice for a lazy day between activities. I will find a way back here for a future trip, and excited to reconnect with the entire staff that were so kind and accommodating!

The Maui Guest House is a hidden jewel in Lahaina. The owner Tanna makes sure this delightful guest house is always immaculate. The décor is stylish Hawaiian and very charming. It’s absolutely, hands down, the best choice to stay at while vacationing on this beautiful island. It is calm, peaceful, and away from the hundreds of noisy tourists vacationing in the huge hotels. It’s perfect. The lobby was filled with a wonderful and healthy breakfast spread before the Covid epidemic, and the large communal kitchen was always fully stocked with everything you could ask for. The bedrooms and bathroom are lovely; large and comfortable with beautiful stained-glass windows, plenty of towels, soaps, and shampoos. Tanna set up small kitchens on the lanai attached to each bedroom. It was a smart idea to have a private breakfast out there until Covid rules ended. Her main assistant Barbara is always so friendly and gives us the best sightseeing ideas and restaurants to go to, away from the average loud tourists. If you like a busy atmosphere you can drive minutes away into the main town of Lahaina. Beaches, restaurants, shops, galleries, flea markets, bookstores, groceries, a Post Office, and everything you could possibly want can be found only minutes away. It’s a captivating little town but go early to get a good parking spot. The Maui Guest House is a wonderful and enchanting place to stay after a long day of sightseeing. The location is ideal, and there is no extra resort or parking fee. Tanna and Barbara are to be commended on running this guesthouse to perfection year after year. It is absolutely charming, the ambience is perfect, and we look forward to returning next winter. Did I mention it’s immaculate! If you are so inclined, they supply beach chairs, coolers, and all other stuff you may need if you like to sit on the beach. There is a BBQ for your use and a small pool and hot tub on the veranda. We’ve stayed here 4 times and always hate to leave. This guest house makes our trip to Maui very special. We love staying there, and...

From the minute we arrived, we felt as if we were visiting family. Yes, the Guest House is beyond beautiful, tucked away in a quiet residential area. Yes, the rooms were all one of a kind with breathtaking stained glass, and such amazing wood carvings on walls & furniture. Beyond the beauty of this vintage building, is the warm welcome from tanna and her staff! There seems to be nothing they won't do to make your vacation perfect. Most "modern" accommodations have small common rooms, this building has huge open rooms to relax & enjoy, the outside deck (with pool & hot tub) is on two levels! Inside are two large living areas, kitchen for all to use, laundry facilities and probably more that I've forgotten! We learned first hand the meaning of "Aloha", the Hawaiian Culture's strong sense of responsibility for each other, and the natural world. You can enjoy most everything Maui has to offer, or just relax and smell the flowers here. We have family in Lahaina, so we will be anxiously waiting for our next visit. Thank...

Wow! Where to start? This is an incredible place to stay and we can't recommend it highly enough. After a stressful journey to Maui we were welcomed with such warmth and empathy we were bowled over! John, Heather, Barbara and Tanna work tirelessly to provide every need for their guests. There is such attention to detail, from the availability of cool boxes, free laundry, coffee, cold drinks, DVDs, beach chairs...the list is endless. Our recent trip covered a number of hotels but nothing came close to the cleanliness, personal service and above all hospitality of the Maui Guest House. We arrived as weary travelers but left as friends to our hosts. We can only reiterate previous comments as this is truly a home away from home. This is a must stay accommodation when visiting Maui. However, you will need to book well in advance. Having stayed for 10 days we can honestly say that the property and hosts were faultless. Have no hesitation in recommending, in fact it's the best accommodation we've stayed in! ||10 out of 10 in...
