We routinely meet up at Wickham Park to have lunch every other week. It's nice to get out in the park. It is able to accommodate such a lark. There are numerous pavilions with bench seating and grills, bring your own charcoal and watch over the fire. Sufficient trees enable glorious shaded areas and the pond is home to some nice wildlife, like the ospreys. There are also adequate restrooms, parking, and walking trails for your enjoyment. Over the years, we have seen the little changes being done here and there that have kept the park usable on many levels, by all different age groups, and year round. We've stayed in tune with a lot of the debate regarding frequency of events, types of events, and complaints of people who have moved into the area expecting the park to be sanguine and tranquil 24 hours a day 365 a year. I do believe if they took a poll of all the residents of Brevard using the park, they may realize that some of these moves have threatened the desire to go to the park. It often reminds me of people who move next to the airport because they got a deal in the house and then start complaining about the noise. Wickham Park is a large area and centralized in the county. Hence it made perfect sense to hold things like the Renaissance Faire or the Country Jam which brought large numbers of people from across the county to partake. But people in higher power, make decisions that end up in ruining or destroying memories that were created. The new thing about going out to the Country Jam was they didn't have to stay in a tight area to be able to hear the bands and you could enjoy some of the rest of the park for a while. Renaissance Fair actually made some changes to the area, that they were placed in, to make it better for the fair, which made it better for the park when the fair wasn't there. I'm certain this will all settle out, but in the meantime, a vast majority of us will continue to use the park during normal business hours to have that brief respite from daily grunge, or to see our children playing outside, or to get the family together for a large picnic and add this to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWarning 1: Not at all Covid-19 compliant. Despite signs requiring masks, and hand sanitizer at every stall and rest area, guests were not wearing masks or social distancing, so decide carefully whether you'll take that risk. 99% of vendors wore masks, and wore them over both mouth and nose. Now I understand exactly why the Black Plague was so effective. It's very hard to enforce expectations of human behaviour.
Warning 2: This might contain spoilers, but there's so much to discover that I'm just writing this to acknowledge the efforts and to give my gratitude to the participants who put on the Faire. There's so much to see, you should just stop reading and go. :)
Beyond the literal plague, this Renaissance Faire was phenomenal. I learned many new things. It's organized, mostly accessible, family friendly, people of all ages and backgrounds. Bottomless arts, activities, rides, and shows. The human snow cone maker "Be The Hamster" wheel is a stroke of genius, fun, mechanics, and exercise, and treats! People dressed up and didn't dress up. Everyone was respectful of everyone else.
Scheduling seemed perfectly oriented to allow visitors to see as much as possible in a single day. I'd definitely go back for a second day, just to fill in what I didn't see, and to spend more time with things I enjoyed. Plenty of bathrooms, not a lot of guidance on which ones might be accessible. The falconers' raptors were out of this world.
Tons of animals in the faire and guests with well-behaved dogs. Of note, even the animals were mellow and unfazed by the amount of activity. At events with show animals a person sensitive to animal welfare would likely enjoy that animals appear to be healthy, active, engaged, and connected to their handlers. Cheers to the rescue groups representing and rehabilitating.
There were larger-than-life sculptures, clever shop names, unusual products, fascinating storytellers, and best of all, lots of weird and friendly people.
It's a lot of work to put on a Ren Faire; this is one of the best I've ever seen. Much blending of authenticity and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreISSUE RESOLVED!! Thank you, FL Parks, for responding properly to this complaint. Long story short after booking a campsite hrs. away from Universal Fl, I decided to book one closer online, I made a payment very easy and the receipt was sent to my email. When arriving there was no one at the site to check in so we looked for our site which wasn't listed on receipt, we decided to find a spot as there was no indication on what site to go to, around 2am police were at our site with the worker of the grounds, the officers asked for the receipt, which was easy provided, the grounds lady continuously called me a liar and belittled me Infront of my children until officers told her it was the correct receipt after she said it wasn't even though the park name and address was on the receipt, she indicated that I should know what parts of the park was closed with no visual signs indicating that it was closed, she chucked at me, after police intervened with her belittling me asking if I needed to move my site at 2am to the one paid for, she called her boss and after loudly still belittling me on the call and laughing at me, we were able to stay at this site, she then came back before the hrs. Of 8am while we slept to put the parks "rules" with highlighted areas on my vehicle. which would have been great if provided online when I bought the $40 ticket We felt VERY uncomfortable, in which my daughter was awake to hear this lady call me a liar multiple times and belittling me so we were out of there before 9am. When the officers left one said we were ok and she hoped our trip would get better and that she cant help that that woman was "grouchy" .......going here was a mistake and a waist of money and they have cameras right Infront of the bathroom doors, this whole site was like the hills have eyes. We camped at Wickham Park Campground in a Tent. I paid $40 to be belittled Infront of my family.....there is no trees just open space. There are much better locations with...
