Budget Inn — Hotel in Mexico

This may be a little long...

I called ahead a little ways outside of town to the various overnight establishments and found the phone service with Budget Inn to be good and the price more than reasonable.

Looking at the online photos I knew that I’d probably be introduced to the “Local” experience over the other hotels. I arrived and was greeted by Rich Gold.

What?

Yes, a native from Missouri and a 20 year service member of the armed forces. Anyways, I was too tired to be chatty and I quickly got checked in and hit the hay...

The next morning I ran into some logistical issues that required me going to the small town of Paris, Missouri, which was about 26 miles away. While I was at the counter, checking out with Rich, I also shared with him the dilemma is was in and asked him about any solutions possibly available to me in town. We both concluded I was in a “Situation” and then he looked at me and said “Hold On!”...and he ducks around the corner.

I had no idea what he was doing or what to expect. For all I knew he could have been going to go get a pair of skates to bring back to me. He came back and said “Let’s Go”. I was stunned and had to ask what did he want in return for helping me go take my rental car into the next town to go get another vehicle to bring back. He said he did want anything in return.

Cut to the end:

During the drive into Paris (to pick up a Ford F-150), the drive back into Mexico (to return my rental to Enterprise and then heading back to the hotel in the F-150) I had the chance to learn about Rich.

Rich is one of those people who we need more of and not because he helped me out. Rich is a person who served our country, he is an active member of the chamber of commerce thus serving his community, he is serving his wife and kids by building financial security and economic relief so his kids can have a better life after he is gone.

Rich became a friend and a memorable person of whom I’m indebted to. He has big plans for his establishment and hopefully more people renting his rooms will help him get those plans started and completed sooner.

I never did get to eat any of the pancakes, biscuits w/gravy or the eggs but I can say this - Go see Rich and tell him Eric sent you and you want to see Budget Inn become the best hotel in the middle of town. It’s an original location built in the 70’s and sits on a great corner near old town. Your money goes to one place right there in town and not some corporate entity in another...

We are grateful for being taken in at the Budget Inn in Mexico, Missouri after a competing hotel rudely refused to honor our pre-paid confirmed reservation made over TripAdvisor/Priceline unless we paid double the agreed price for a suite instead of a regular room. (Please see my October 2017 review of Country Hearth Inn entitled “Baits & Switch Hotel”). ||||The Budget Inn is an older hotel but more centrally located than Country Hearth and the management at the Budget Inn seems stable. (Owner is ex-Navy). The rooms are large and the configuration is good (separate dressing room area from the toilet and shower area). We had pre-paid $80.00 to Country Hearth for a standard room; the Budget Inn was $53.00 a night. The rooms at the Budget Inn were clean and had been freshly painted; the mattresses weren’t bad. The towels were rather thin and small but they were clean and well-bleached and they gave us a large stack of fresh ones when we told them we would be staying another night. The plumbing is old but it worked and water pressure in the shower was fine. ||||The room had a large desk area to work at and the Internet connection was good for us. Our room came with a refrigerator, microwave and TV. No breakfast provided but there is lobby coffee in the morning until it runs out and more coffee and food available within walking distance or a short drive. ||||For women who require a hair dryer, I suggest you bring your own travel hair dryer; the Budget Inn has 1200 watt wall-unit dryers (the one in my room didn’t work and I failed to report it to the owner as I should have because I had my own 1800 watt with me). Also, do not expect shampoo, conditioner and bath gel in little bottles; there is a dispenser on the wall in the shower. If such amenities are important to you, bring your own. This is not a complaint, just an observation. At $53.00 a night for a large clean room where families can stay comfortably in a town where hotel options are limited I am not complaining about anything about this hotel under its current management. ||||My family was in Mexico, Missouri due to a sad circumstance and several of my close family members from large cities from all over the U.S. ended up staying at the Budget Inn in various rooms over several/multiple nights and I don’t think anyone had any serious complaints. Based on my recent bad personal experience with the competition at Country Hearth, the Budget Inn is a good option...

NO HANDICAPPED ROOMS! LOW STOOL, NO WALK-IN-SHOWER, NO GRAB BAR. ROOM NOT WIDE ENOUGH FOR WHEELCHAIRS ESPECIALLY VANITY AREA. BATHROOM-YOU WALK IN, BACK OUT!| ROOM 125, there June 22-26. I tripped on the CARPETING going from the bedroom into the small door of vanity area.|I reported promptly Tues. am to owner, RICH. I asked him to nail it down.|"I can't do that; it's CEMENT. WILL NEED TO EPOXY IT DOWN. Will need to go to Columbia, MO to get epoxy. I'm busy today, can't do it." He didn't mention anything about NOT doing it in the next days.|I TRIPPED; FELL DOWN ON MY RIGHT SIDE THIS TIME HURTING MYSELF!| I injured my ribs below my breast, same areas in back, foot & my knee which had been replaced! |I took keys to front office; told owner's wife about my falling in the vanity area HURTING myself. Said I reported it to RICH Tues am how dangerous it was needing to be fixed! If I end up having BILLS ON THIS, I WILL BE CONTACTING YOU!|I went to ER. XRAYS GALORE. NO BROKEN BONES; badly bruised ribs/other body parts.|I called owner to get his info on his insurance co. to submit my CLAIM.|Rich would only tell me this Farmer's Ins., Columbia, MO; google it.|Ins. co. had NOTHING on this motel! I called Rich; asked for his insurance co. name, agent's name & POLICY NO. he gave me FARMER'S INSU.-MEXICO.|He said he contacted his insurance agent about my fall. I haven't heard from them.
