My wife and I just stayed at the Dylan for a work/vacation thing we did that required us to be in Palo Alto (for work) and also in San Francisco (for play). The Dylan (located in Millbrae) is a perfect in-between place to get a reduced rate and easy access to both. Many great things about the Dylan 1) 10 minutes away from the airport by shuttle, bus or Uber: it's the last stop for the shuttle and bus before the airport, and both bus and shuttle are literally steps away from the hotel (the bus stop is like a quarter block away). If you're in a pinch, paying 2.25 (as of this writing) for the bus was basically the same as taking a shuttle...and takes the same amount of time to get there! 2) The room was perfectly clean and really nice. No problem with the shower, water pressure, sink, toilet, coffee maker, iron, tv or anything else 3) At night I didn't hear anything more than just your typical city sounds: no airport take-offs, no loud chopper bikes, no sirens (to speak of), and only a little bumping around upstairs (from the third floor). I slept soundly every night 4) The people at the front desk were friendly and nice to us, because we were friendly and nice to them. 5) Just a 5-6 minute easy walk to the Milbrae caltrain station. We used this every day to get to Stanford and to San Francisco. It was amazingly easy. And when you are walking to the caltrain you can stop at... 7) Peter's Cafe, an authentic fifties diner just a 3 minute walk from the Dylan. This place is the real deal and will serve you THA BEST egg/bacon/toast/coffee. They also have great burgers. And they do coffee to go. 8) The Dylan is also close to In-And-Out Burger and lots of japanese, chinese, and other asian restaurants. There is even a short bike/running path about a block away if you want to get some exercise. We really liked this place, and we would absolutely stay there again!!

Gorgeous interior decor. Everything was chosen for a reason. Loved the fabric and unique colors of the sheets on the bed. However, we had a terrible experience with the front desk guy at night. He was scolding us too like others mentioned. Haha. The lady the next day was friendly and warm. I had the best sleep! 11 hours of sleeping beauty time. Haha. I’m used to wearing ear plugs at hotels and playing live sleep music on YouTube. When I turned it off in the morning, I could definitely hear people walking around outside, people showering upstairs, and more. So if you are a light sleeper, definitely play some music. I do agree with others that it’s a glorified motel, especially now during Covid, because there’s no breakfast or any amenities at all. You can bring your disposable cups from the room downstairs to get coffee at the coffee machine. You can also use their reusable bottles to get water which was really cool. A great idea. One last terrible thing: we found pubic hair right when we entered on our very first night in the bathroom. 😭 I swept it away and put a towel on top of the area I found it. It was really gross.

This being a very quick pitstop in SF between my transcontinental travel, I am glad to have found The Dylan- indeed a hidden gem amongst the many chain hotels near the airport. While the hotel is smaller in footprint, it packs a punch with thoughtful details. I was kept posted of pertinent information via text and they responded to my questions while I was overseas. Since I checked in late, I wasn't able to explore the surrounding area much. However, I loved the selection of wine and cocktails available for purchase at the lobby area, and I can imagine simply unwinding in the cozy space with a glass (or can) in hand. The water bottle found the room for guest to fill up and stay hydrated while exploring the neighborhood is a great idea. The Dylan will be on my list the next time round when I fly in through SFO again.

SERVICE & CHECKIN -- First impression of the customer experience was not positive. Remarkably inefficient at servicing customers; performing manual bookings over the phone during peak hours, with 1 representative on staff. A $25 early checkin fee demanded after sitting through this 10m call was tactless; at least make the fee proportional to the room rates. The weirdest part about this arrangement is that rooms simply sit idle, with the doors fully open, until occupied. 🤯🤦‍♂️ A virtual concierge was convenient for arranging late checkout. 1130 latest checkout offered (free).

LOBBY & TRANSITIONS -- This is an overtly quirky layout & felt like a maze at times; same goes for the parking experience. The lobby was still very enjoyable due to the lively atmosphere & curated playlist of multi-genre hits. Chairs were comfortable enough for the long FYI: Parking voucher for Yelp checkin!

ROOM (https://youtu.be/Q_Ml-xju2gs) -- A trendy mix of modern & contemporary stock that creates a uniquely intimate "Bay Area" vibe. I found the accommodations to be surprisingly versatile for remote work, staycation, or simply at face value as an airport hotel. Our room was comfortably spacious with quality seating & a patio perfectly positioned for enjoying the breeze, radiating with natural light ☀️. A mix of traditional & make-shift storage was also available. ⚠️Walls are the definition of "thin". ⚠️

BED -- Too soft 👎, but I could see this being enjoyable for those that don't need the additional support. A plethora of pillows provided in this setup. This did not make up for the dreadfully weak bedding though.

BATH -- Small bath space but you get a dedicated vanity. Great shower experience: strong water pressure, fast heating temperatures, & larger towels. Designer toiletries (Gilchrest & Soames) are also included. Ventilation could be a lot better but the windows are functional & make up for it. I also found my pick for best robe this year (made by "robes etc...")!

TV & ENTERTAINMENT -- Impressive entertainment center installation. The television itself was excellent in picture quality & feature-set. Paired with the most unique & tech-forward remote that I've encountered in any hotel this year. It was a fun experience that I highly recommend tinkering with. A bluetooth record player & a few classic records were even provided!

WI-FI & CELL RECEPTION -- A superb~ free WiFi offering. --Performance-- Video streaming - Great Online gaming - Great Video chatting - Great --Nerd Stats-- 64-84 Mbps download 67-68 Mbps upload 0% packet loss 11 ms latency 1 ms jitter

FOOD & DRINK -- DoorDash friendly + plenty of walkable staples like chipotle, subway, & in-n-out burger. I was surprised to see so many food options In the lobby -- there's enough snacks, wine, & beer 3-11pm) to fill a small corner store! A status quo boutique-buffet breakfast is offered at the usual hours. Refillable waters battles are also provided for the duration of your stay. Vending & ice machines on floor. in-room: ✅ microwave (mini) ✅ mini-fridge (medium) ✅coffee ❌ tea ❌ wet-bar ❌ mini-bar

NOISE -- Another thin walls™️ experience. Slamming doors rattle the building, so prepare for that. It's a pet friendly property so plenty of potential barking & other animal sounds. Caltrain across the street too 🚂.

LOCATION -- Airport hotel in a safe area, with proximity to Caltrain. Rideshare pickup can be confusing & parking isn't a polished experience.

RATING A dense amount of amenities -- possibly more than a Staypineapple! Acoustically, it's hit-or-miss, & from the management aspect they're understaffed (or inexperienced). Nonetheless, it's a great-value airport hotel. I highly recommend & would stay again. 4/5...

I usually don't write bad reviews and after previous experiences, I now try not to use emotions when writing them either. ||My family will visit San Francisco a few times a year and I found this place to be the closest to where they visit.
