My partner and I had reservations at WoodSpring Suites Kansas City Mission for April 27, 2023 through April 29, 2023. We were unjustly kicked out of our room, 305, after being accused of stealing a housekeeper’s (Tiffany) charger. That morning when we left the room, the housekeeper, was cleaning the room nearby in that my partner asked her about a “Do not disturb” sign for our room on my behalf as I had my school laptop and portable DVD player in the room. She rudely informed us that there was no such signs and that they only go in the room by request or when we leave the hotel. At that point, my partner had taken a book of matches off her cart. We went on our way down the hall to the elevator and past another housekeeper which no words were spoken. ||||So my partner and I were gone since that morning to early evening in which I returned to the hotel by myself. When I got to my room, the room key was not working so I went downstairs. It was apparently shift change. The man who checked us in the night before was at the front desk. ||||This hotel staff is the same man who questioned my partner about how he got the low room rate for our room with the NFL draft being in town that weekend at check-in the night before. We replied that we were not in town for that reason as we are from out of state and came to dump a storage unit and had booked the room a week in advance. He responded that the room rates are being booked for a hundred dollars more now as a result of the NFL draft as they can charge weekend rates for the weekday. That was the end of the conversation. Later that evening, I had asked about upgrading our room to a two bed as my partner’s son came to help us last minute with the storage. The male staff reported that it would be an extra $255 in which I told him that I would have to speak to my partner and that was the end of that conversation. ||||Fast forward now to the evening of Friday April 28, 2023. This male staff had a note left from the morning shift stating that we were to leave the premises and must return the charger. I had called my partner on my phone and allowed him to talk to the male staff and the acting hotel manager as the general manager had left for the day. Supposedly, the general manager called the contact number listed on the reservation three times that morning but no such calls were retrieved. My partner asked for the videos to be reviewed and had told them the details of our interactions with the housekeeping staff and her cart that morning. However, the hotel staff decided in the end that we were to leave the premises immediately and that the police were going to be called. We do not know if the police were called or not but we do know that we did not take anyone’s charger. My partner believes that we were being discriminated against because of his race. ||||I was escorted to the room by the male staff who watched me pack our belongings in the room which included my school laptop, portable DVD player, all of our chargers to our phones and electrical devices, clothes, and food items. I left the premises and did not cause any issues despite being falsely accused and being made to find other hotel accommodations during the NFL draft weekend. Read moreWe reserved the room Sept. 20th through Oct. 5th. The apartment became available sooner than we expected, so I called the desk and talked to Roy Wed. the 26th. I had to leave earlier that day but explained to him the circumstances and told him my son was there. I asked Roy what he needed to do and he told me that he could leave the key in the room and we would be refunded for the second week. On Oct 3rd, I called Roy to let him know I had not gotten anything regarding the refund and he assured me it would be credited back to my account. On Oct. 15th I spoke to Roy again. I informed him we still did not been credited for the week. He told me that there was a damage charge for smoking in the room. He told me he would have his general manager call me back. She did not call. When I called on Tuesday Roy told me that she had my number and would call it was a hectic day, again no call. On Wednesday, Amelia answered the phone. I explained to her that we had not received the refund, and was told there was a damage charge on our room and there had to be a mistake because none of us smoke. I told her that I spoke to Roy on the 3rd and nothing was mentioned about a damage charge he assured me I would receive a refund. Because of this, I felt like they were mistaking, and It seemed very suspicious. I also asked her to explain then why wasn't the rest of my money refunded after the charge. THEN she told that I never checked out early!!!! I was completely shocked and told her I wanted to speak to Roy. She told me he wasn't there. I said "he answered the phone!" She told me he was busy and some how we were disconnected. I called back and said " look, something is really wrong here. I spoke to Roy twice about checking out and the refund. He said nothing about a damage charge and now your saying I never checked out early! I asked her how much the charge was and she said $250. I then asked her how she was able to charge my card that extra $250? She told me I signed a form stating I would pay the amount for smoking. I said "I realize that, but NO ONE notified me of this charge upon checking out or when I called on the 3rd. You can't do that, with out my knowledge. So, I should of had a notification, or a partial refund then!" I then asked, so what date do you have me checked out then. She told me October 1st, when the smoking was reported. I couldn't believe it. I told her we wasn't even there on that date! Further more, I reserved the room until the 5th and paid! But your telling me I didn't check out early. The 1st is early and therefor you still owe me a refund. She told me that she would have to look into it more and get back to me. I said "please do! Something is not right and I would appreciate it" I asked her if it would be today and she said yes, she would call me back that day. She did not. So I contacted my credit card company. I will need a place to stay a few more times before the end of the year and would have booked there, but you have lost that business. I am honestly shocked at the fact this even happened, and how I was treated. I would really hope this gets made right. If not, I will do what I can to get the word out to the public regarding WoodSpring's and a good value is is not! [Review collected...
