Tacos El Gallo — Restaurant in Mission

Always on the quest for a great birria taco so we thought we’d give this place a try- I had the birria tacos which I would say are average and on the small side however you do get 4- our order was prepared pretty quickly however the tacos were of a medium temp , my husband ordered a carnitas torta - he did say it was delicious however light on the carnitas, we ordered chips and salsa which cost extra however they do have a salsa bar for entrees and got some 2 oz portion cups from the order taker to try that - the chips were fresh- they have a couple of tables inside so it would be possible to dine in however a bit cramped - plenty of outdoor seating which we opted for- we probably won’t be back just because there are so many more viable options for birria- to be fair they had many more menu options we didn’t try which could potentially be better. It’s a shame because this place is usually really good, but I had only gone during the day. Today I came late around 9PM and immediately when I was handed my order it smelled off… like the meat went bad. Sure enough when I opened the tacos the meat was soggy and bland I didn’t even want to eat it it was so gross and smelled bad too. I would NOT come here at night and just stick to the day, maybe they switched cooks for the night or maybe they just get lazy towards the end but it was not good and $15...

Tacos El Gallo is truly the best!!!! Whenever my fiancé and I are craving birria, we always end up here. Bonus points for the giant “birria pizza”!!!! Their salsa is also very addictive - we usually fight over who gets the last bit of it. I’ve never had any issues with the many orders I’ve placed, and they are super quick to prepare the food as well.
