First, I’ll start with the good. Everyone was kind and helpful. The owner (an air force veteran) was outgoing and pleasant. The man that makes the outstanding breakfasts, does his best to remember what you like. And he is thoughtful and makes a damn good breakfast (options vary a bit each day). The not so great: the rooms, and the building. The outside looks run down and needs a huge refresh. The owner hasn’t had it for long (a few years) and is trying to get it turned around — a tough job because the hotel is large and oddly laid out. However, the prices they charge, and the pics posted online make the place seem a lot nicer than what it was. If you know you’re going into a budget hotel, then I think your expectations will match reality. I thought we were getting something significantly nicer and the shock impacted how we felt about our stay. The layout is funky. This was a hotel that appears they kept adding additions over the years and it’s just weird. Plus, the courtyard they advertise is just a broken cement pad with weeds growing in what looks to be small plots for flowers. The funky lay out doesn’t even have signs to help you navigate the property and doors stick. So it’s tough to get around at first. You definitely need a map if you’re in the additions that are clearly add-ons. Then the room. It’s small, or at least the one we had was. Not enough electrical outlets which meant the few outlets needed outlet strips. Plus, they just cut holes in the wall behind the TV. Having a few extra outlets would have been exceptionally useful and handy (not to mention safer). The bathroom was super small, as was the tub. There’s no extra hooks or bars (one hook and one bar) despite the room having two beds (so more than one person). The bathroom is so small that changing in it is a challenge. The toilet is low so if you struggle with sit to stand transfers, you’ll struggle here. And the tub is super slippery, no non-skid safety measures in the tub, nor are there any grab bars. Our fan didn’t work either. So if you need any safety precautions in the bathroom, ask for a handicap accessible room. Bad side is, they don’t offer them with two beds. An easier solution is to add safety and accessibility features in every room. The beds were soft and initially we were worried about them being too soft and not very supportive. Luckily they ended up being okay. We were slightly sore but not horribly so. That was a huge relief. The food was decent. No bugs or mold in our room so that’s always a huge positive. I’m torn about whether we would stay again. People were great. The room and building were very underwhelming

Stayed in early June, 2025 Pool: The primary reason we wanted to stay here specifically was for the giant pool. Unfortunately, they had a pool party from 5-8 and the pool closed at 9pm so we only had a 1 hour window to use it. The pool is very big and has a 9 foot deep end! Unfortunately, it's was ice cold. I would estimate they were keeping it around 50 degrees because after 5 minutes we felt like we were turning blue. We tried the hot tub but had the opposite problem. It was so hot we felt like we were being boiled. Food: The second reason we stayed here was because all the reviews below said there was a fantastic, made to order omelet station This was not the case. We stayed on a Friday night and on Saturday morning there were no omelets. They had really gross scrambled eggs (powdered stuff?), biscuits and gravy (the gravy was cold), and one sausage patty. Yes one... We got up early (see below) and didn't check out until 9:30am so we checked multiple times and more/better food never got put out. Room: We stayed in room 165 and the room was newly updated. The mattresses were incredibly comfortable. Unfortunately, they didn't bother to tell me when I made the reservation that they would be starting construction on the parking lot at 5:45am. Once the skid loaders and heavy equipment started up they beeped incessantly, so sleeping was over. The curtains let in a ton of light so that made sleeping hard as well. The restaurant: We ate dinner Friday night. It was very quiet. The Alfredo was delicious, but the bread stick was rock hard. The rest of the hotel: The hallways, lobby, pool, and even the restaurant smelled. Very stale, damp, or maybe moldy. Since they are remodeling I can't really fault them on that too much. I don't think they're remodeling the restaurant though, they should find a way to get rid of the damp basement type smell. Will we stay here again? Probably not, which is a bummer because our daughter will be attending college there for the next four years and we plan on coming to visit one weekend per month.

Tonight our destination was The Hudson Inn to try the pizza. Immediately we were greeted warmly by staff and Dan Hudson alike. For those with long memories, the bar and eating area is the old Corral Lounge. We could seat ourselves. Our server was prompt and our pizza was delicious!!!! Between ordering and eating, we were able to get to know Dan a bit better as we fondly reminisced about the hotel during it’s Sunwood Inn and Prairie Inn days. The place is not pretentious. It is a work in progress. It is a welcomed investment by Dan in our community. It isn’t brand new as I worked there 40 years ago. The place has its well-earned patina. Instead it feels like a family truck or car that is being restored and although it isn’t completed yet, it is drivable and oh so fun to take out on the road!

The booking for this stay was easy to navigate, except when I went to look at the cancelation policy/refund policy, the links weren't working. I had to email for info on that in the event I wouldn't be able to make it. Fast forward to two days before check in, I called to request an early check in. I was assured that a noon check in would be accomodated and that there was a note put on my reservation. Come check in time, right at noon, I'm told my room isn't ready and there's nothing on my reservation about an early check in. While they did try their best to put my room on the fast track (took about 50 minutes), it shouldn't have happened in the first place. Also, I booked a king and got a double queen. Not a big deal, it worked fine, but why didn't I get the room I booked? I was traveling with a toddler and needed a noon check in so he could have a nap before our daily plans. Instead, we had to wait almost an hour, with nowhere else to go for his nap. While we waited, we took all of our luggage to the pool area to go swimming. The kiddy pool was empty and there wasn't even any signs or tape to deter people from going in. It's nice there is a fence around the pool now. When it was time to go to our room, we asked if it was ok to use the stairs nearest the lobby, as there was construction. We were told they were safe to go up. We went up, and there was a tarp blocking the hallway. So we had to go back down. We then walked through the main level wing where there was also construction. The next stairs were completely blocked off. We had to find a housekeeper to ask how to get to the second floor. The room itself was ok. You can tell it hasn't been deep cleaned or scrubbed in a long time. Corners, nooks and crannies, etc were grimy and dirty. The beds and bedding were comfortable at least. Very thin walls, we heard every noise outside in the hallway. LOTS of gnats flying...
