Took our sons here after moving one of them in today. He decided he wanted steak. We heard that this place was relatively new to town, so decided to give it a try.
We did not have a great experience. At a table with four steaks, three were not done as requested, and my wagyu steak was actually cold (so much so that I thought it had been refrigerated or under an A/C vent). Out of three sides we ordered, the fries were warm, but the risotto and asparagus were not. When I order a steak, I expect that butter will melt on it. None of our steaks would melt butter. Two of the steaks we're sent back for being overdone, and one was consumed though overdone. I'm not a big steak eater myself, but I decided to try something out of my comfort zone, the 7oz. wagyu steak. Not only was it served cold, but I could not identify any marbling in the steak at all. From my reading on wagyu, I expected to see visible marbling. Perhaps this was just a lesser wagyu cut, but I didn't find it to be anything spectacular. I've had sirloins and ribeyes that have melted in my mouth more than the steak I was served.
Where the menu lists "Sides for the Table," It should denote that they must intend for a table of two, because the three sides we ordered were inadequate for our foursome.
The risotto, although not hot, was flavorful, as were the asparagus spears. The steaks appeared to have no seasoning, however. I do not know if that is by intention or not.
Our server informed the house manager, who came to check on us and apologized. She oversaw the firing of the replacement steaks. Even then, they tended toward one level of done this higher than requested--the one ordered rare was not rare at all.
This was a very disappointing experience. It is unlikely that we will ever eat here again. The manager did agree to give us a concession on our ticket, after I requested one, but left it to me to decide what concession I wanted. Not wishing to take advantage of the situation, I simply asked for a comp on one of the steaks, and left it to the manager to decide which one. This resulted in an approximate 15% adjustment on our ticket.
Knowing that our server had no control over the firing of the steaks, we made sure she received an adequate gratuity.
Perhaps they were just having an off night, but at their price points, I am not willing to risk it again.
RE: Your reply:
Opening your respose by stating that dropping a child off at college can be stressful is an attempt to suggest that my review was shaded because I was dealing with stress. We were celebrating. Because of that attempt to shift blame, I am reducing this review from two stars to one.
You state that cooking steaks can be tricky. Many other places, like Pittsburgh Blue, Wildfire, and Grizzly's, deliver their food hot, and know what a rare steak is. For relying on your thermometers, some of your other reviews suggest they are not working, especially for the gentleman that ordered medium well and received rare. I
You didn't address that our food was delivered cold, and I assure you that "cold" in this situation is not hyperbole. You did not address the fact that my Wagyu steak had no visible marbling. If we had gone to an Applebee's (which, personally, I do not think is a very good restaurant for steak) and ordered four steaks, each at a different doneness, my experience suggests that we may have needed to send back one to be refired. None of the four stakes we received were as expected, and only one of the three sides was warm.
You may try to put a positive spin on negative reviews with your replies, but they do not change the underlying and/or systemic problems that led to our poor experience in your restaurant. In other restaurants, if they made such a glaring series of errors, the house would have offered a discount or comp, and would not have left it for me to ask for one.
We will not risk $50 per person for a chance at sub-par food again. Not, at least, until the restaurant is under new management. We should have checked other online reviews before...
Read moreFirst I want to say that this 2 star rating is about the food not the service. The food did take longer than other restaurants but we didn't mind. The waitress was attentive and refilled my drink every time it got low. We ordered the pork bellys as an appetizer. My son (YouTube@ ajthemonkey3961) ordered the prime burger, my girlfriend ordered the grilled chicken alfredo and I selected the prime rib. We were informed that the pork belly would take awhile because they were thick and given the opportunity to change our order but we said we didn't mind the wait. We were served 3 square pieces of bread and some dipping oil and some butter. We all agreed that was the worst tasting bread any of us have ever had at any restaurant we've ever been to. I liked the oil but I was the only one. The butter was just plain soft butter. At some point the pork bellys arrived and were good. It was ranked about the middle of the pack for pork bellys but the other ones we've tried have been in TX and FL (recently in April). One thing I want to mention...The food looked amazing! The food presentation was impeccable...But tasted pretty bad overall. First the prime burger was the best meal by far. My son didn't even mine the onions. It was juicy and the jam gave it a hint of sweetness. The grilled chicken was very dry and almost completely stiff and was like chewing a wad of paper. Her asparagus had so much pepper on it she couldn't eat it. My asparagus was tolerable but definitely too much pepper. My mashed potatoes were decent and creamy. Now the most expensive item we ordered was the $43 prime rib...I've had prime rib all over the country and never have had one this dry. I've even had them at shaddy buffets like the one on National Lampoon Vegas Vacation and they were still more moist than this. I ate maybe 2 oz of it because it was like chewing gum. I ordered it medium rare and probably should have gone with rare or still mooing. It had no flavor. I've never seen a prime rib have zero juice. This by far has been the worst beef I've ever had in my life. I do plan to go back in a week to try different items and see if everything is overcooked, over seasoned or bland or if this was just a one off. Please look at the pictures of the prime rib. I don't know how it's possible to have it turn out this dry. Originally I was going to have the tomahawk steak but then heard the special of the day and decided on that instead.
Update Went back and my son had the kids burger which was huge... Basically the same size of a prime burger just without the onions and jam at half the price. I ordered the prime burger which was a little dry and not as good as when my son ordered it the week...
Read moreOur party of 6 recently came here for a birthday dinner and had a fantastic meal! I wish we would have remembered to take a few pictures to share.
Appetizers were delicious- we had the pork belly, crab dip, and cheese curds. We would order all these again! The Moscow mule cocktails with their house made ginger beer were very good.
For mains we all had aged ribeye and one of us had the top sirloin. The steaks were amazing and perfectly cooked (medium rare) and seasoned! The sides were served family style. We ordered mashed potatoes, fries, smoked mac & cheese, mushroom risotto, and asparagus. The truffle parmesan fries were a huge hit with everyone but my personal favorite was the smoked cheddar mac & cheese. The only side that we didn't care for was the mushroom risotto as it was very al dente when served. It might have been intended to be that way and it did taste good. I'm not positive and we didn't complain about it.
Be sure you save room for desert! We had lava cake, chocolate torte with ice cream, and Swedish cream. They were amazing! I loved the Swedish cream. (Suggestion to management- please add some aged port wines to your list to accompany desert)
As you can probably guess, we ordered way too much food and had a bunch of leftovers. I found the portions to be generous across the board and very reasonably priced for the quality and size. You could certainly still eat here if you're on a budget. The service was very good overall and a bit on the leisurely side which was perfect for us as we wanted to enjoy our meal and not be rushed through the courses.
After reading many of the reviews that are less than 5 stars, it seems like people have unreasonable expectations and are nitpicking the restaurant and service. The pricing is clearly stated on the menu and available on the website so there should be no complaints there. Why would you order a $50 steak and then complain it was expensive? You knew what it cost when you ordered it... If you've ever gone to a nice grocery store and purchased dry-aged prime beef you would realize the restaurant isn't getting rich selling...
