For a 2-star hotel, Boarders Inn met expectations in terms of room quality and cleanliness. We booked our accommodations relatively last minute so our options were limited. The room itself was fine, but pricey. Checking in the evening of 8/5/2021 (~7:30pm) was easily the most alarming, rude, and horrible interaction I've ever had at a hotel, or really anywhere. I have been against writing negative reviews during the pandemic because businesses are suffering but this receptionist was really an exception. Upon walking in and before even approaching the front desk, she barked "can I help you?" Clearly she was already in a bad mood or maybe she's just mean all the time. First she couldn't find our room after taking my ID & credit card. Then the confirmation code didn't work. Then it was under a different name. She's flipping through index cards unable to find our reservation. We then learn that apparently the person working earlier gave our room away to someone else who did not have a reservation. There was also a no vacancy sign up. The receptionist then calls up who we assumed was a manager to explain the situation with the same attitude, barking "I didn't do this, this is Lauren's handwriting and Lauren's fault." Then, she calls up the people occupying our room and yells at them to come down to the lobby. Mind you, this is in front of us and the line of people behind us also waiting to check in. Another family had walked in directly behind us and was witnessing all of this from the start. Eventually, she gives us another room without any sign of remorse. What a lovely welcome to the U.P. after driving 15 straight hours that day. Admittedly, I wasn't that worried because I booked this stay through a reliable credit card so I was about to get them on the phone to deal with this lady. We also had backpacking gear and a tent in the car so worse case scenario, we were ready to set up camp in the lobby if they really messed up and had nothing available. We were going to "speak to the manager" upon checking out but we got engaged at Pictured Rocks and I really couldn't be bothered to revisit the fiasco until now, (after vacation) 2 weeks later writing this review. The whole mix up clearly stemmed from incompetence and stupidity on the staff's part, not malice. Regardless, I could never stay here again after how horrible and unprofessional the receptionist was. She was literally yelling at everyone, I've never seen anything like it. I really hope this situation was elevated (the manager was also experiencing all this in real time on the phone) and this woman was removed from the front desk and given a different, non-customer facing job to do...
Read moreWhen I stayed here for a snowmobile trip I couldn't believe how rude the lady that ran the place was. We went out riding for the day and came back to find another guest going into our room. We explained that is was our room then the manager came up and told us she was throwing us out of the hotel because we left lights and the TV on when we went out to ride. Seriously you went in our room unauthorized while we were out and moved all of our stuff out of the room. Not only that when we gathered our stuff as we were leaving it was thrown into garbage bags and we went through it to make sure everything was there. All of our valuables were missing. Laptops Ipads Etc. When we confronted her about this she acted like she didn't know what we were talking about so I was getting ready to call the police when she suddenly remembered it got put into another location. She then rudely said that she called the other hotels in the area and told them not to accomodate us. I told her we already had another room with one phone call. I have never experienced customer service like this in my life. Do yourself a favor and stay...

Very poor knowledge of the area. They had no idea who is open or when. The guest book in our room was very outdated. Restaurants permanently closed are advertised. When we checked out the front desk clerk wasn’t wearing a mask, as for housekeeping, they wear their masks on their chins. Will not stay here again for over 200 a night. We stayed 3 nights. Local information I discovered on my own, hope it helps fellow travelers Tangle wood is closed tues/wed, dog patch doesn’t open til noon during the week, Hardee’s opens at 8 for drive thru.
