Alger County Animal Shelter — Local services in Munising Township

I have only been a volunteer here for a few months, but it is very clear to me the complete dedication of the staff. Many of the supplies for the animal's care comes right out of board's pockets! It is very disheartening reading some of the negative posts. The care of the animals and proper placement of them is their top priority! I have volunteered for a few shelters and also fostered many animals. The facilities are very clean, and I was shocked to know there is only a short time when no one is here with the animals. Most of the time, someone is here til 11 pm! Unheard of at most shelters. They do the very best they can with the current facility. Cannot wait to see their new building. Proud to be a part...

My family is so sad. We drove 45 mins to meet a dog (one way). when we arrived they had 3 adults and my family of 5 in a narrow hallway to meet 4 skittish puppies. My children were so excited as this was a surprise for them. They were ready for us to take one that day but I was not prepared as that was not part of the discussion I had with the clinic. When I emailed to tell her which dog we wanted we were denied adopting stating my children were too rough. This is just so devastating and sad. We went to go adopt and the doors were locked but the person inside saw us and didn’t say or do anything. They just completely ignored us. Then we called and they didn’t answer.
