My girlfriend and I booked online at a discount rate of $90 through a 3th party booking site. We had a late check in after a long day of hiking so we were exhausted. As we we arrived to the front desk, immediately we noticed printed papers of black cats stuck randomly behind the front desk and on random guest's room doors. We thought it was odd, but continued checking in. We provided the receptionist with our confirmation email since he wasn't able to find our booking in either of their systems. After he had located us, he had to transfer all of our info to their new system which was simple information that should have taken a couple of minutes max but instead, took 30 mins to complete. Once done, he asked for our card but didn't give a reason so we assumed it was to confirm we had the card in hand of what we booked with. Out of no where, he provided us with a transaction paper that showed he charged our card $140 after not saying anything to us! When we explained that the rate we got was much lower, his reaction was as it was our fault for not telling him. Wouldn't he be able to see all of our booking info once he found our confirmation number? Wouldn't a receptionist explain why they were needing a card and what they were doing with it prior to taking any payment from us? It took another 30 mins just for him to call his supervisor to have the difference refunded back to us. Which we are still waiting on. The whole experience with the receptionist was off and we were honestly confused how he got that job.

Once finally arriving in our room, we noticed that the bed spread wasn't cleaned, but once again, tried getting passed the disgust because we were super tired and the check in process was a mission on its own. An hour into being in the room, the sink turned on by itself, and then a few mins later, the radio on the clock (that we never touched) had turned on with white noise. Something was definitely in the room with us! After unplugging the radio to try turning it off and stopping the sink from running, we we felt extremely uncomfortable and unsafe there. Once again, we tried to ignore all of these bizzare events to try getting some sleep. That didn't happen.

In the morning, they did offer some breakfast items, but looked like super processed old food. So we ended up only getting a coffee to take with us to enjoy at a hotspring. Their coffee is horrible and their half and half packets were expired so we went with out coffee as well.

If I could put a zero start review, I definitely would take the opportunity to do so. I don't recommend this place to anyone unless you like feeling unsafe, dirty, and being in a...

After driving 5 hours we arrived to check-in. We were told that our card used to hold the room was declined and, therefor we did not have a room reserved. We booked the room weeks ago and, as of THIS MORNING, still had not received any such notice. She said if we had arrived after 3 we would have been out of luck (even though the site said the card was just to hold a room and would not be charged) but since we arrived at 2:30 she would still give us a room but, despite the lack of elevators, we would be upstairs. (We have handicap plates for a reason)

Once inside, we discovered filthy walls, including toothpaste on the bathroom wall. Our room did not have any toilet paper and only a couple of towels. (It’s a double queen) When we tried to call to ask for TP we discovered that our phone doesn’t work so we called from our cell phone. We were told we needed to go down to the front desk to get the TP rather than them bringing it to us.

As we checked in we were told the pool opening & closing times but when we went to get in it was “closed for maintenance”. The man working in the pool room told us we could still use the hot tub but the jets don’t work and it has “problems” and is “the bane of his existence”. There didn’t appear to be anything wrong with the pool but it was clear that this man had no intentions of dealing with it.

We went to breakfast at 8:20am. Breakfast is posted to end at 9:00. There was nothing left. No milk for the cereal, both of the bread containers were empty (bread, bagels, donuts, muffins etc) the fruit was gone, the coffee was empty NOTHING. So I asked the front desk to refill the items and the first lady just shook her head and said “no more”. I reminded her that they said breakfast goes until 9 so the second lady agreed to refill. They added one tray of bagels and one tray of frozen donuts and nothing else. She put an ‘out of order’ sign on the coffee rather than refilling it and they left the overflowing trash can as it was. All the patrons in the room were expressing frustration over the lack of options and working utilities. One elderly gentleman was trying to find milk for his cereal (as cereal was the only option left) I had to go ask for milk for him. She brought out an almost empty gallon, poured it directly into his bowl then took the rest of it away. We had no choice but to go somewhere else for breakfast.

At 8:30 on our second (and last!) day we finally received a welcome text giving us the wi-fi information.

Overall, a very disappointing and frustrating experience. DO...

We chose to stay at this hotel due to the fact that they had a mini fridge and microwave in the room and we were here traveling for an archery competition and had perishables with us. Upon getting to the hotel, it looks decent from the outside, but once we walked in, that was a different story.

The front desk barely spoke English and there were communication barriers when trying to get the details for our room. He was on his phone most of the time and even while checking us in. When we checked out, the cleaning lady had to tap him because he was on his phone and has headphones in and couldn’t hear or see me standing in front of him.

We got to our room which was even more of a disappointment. There were crayon marks all over the walls. The hairdryer was from the 1980s, the showerhead was also from the 1980s and covered in hard water, and there was black mold in three spots in our bathroom.

We attempted to contact the front desk to address the black mold, as well as the showerhead not functioning properly and we told maintenance would come and look at it. We waited 45 minutes as we were under the impression they were coming right away, and no one came. We had to go back down to see when they were coming as we were waiting and hanging out in our room. We gave them the time of 2:30 PM and they agreed. 2:30 PM came and went and no one showed up so I had to go back down to the front desk at 3 PM in which she was not able to get a hold of maintenance. I went back to the room to hang out and at 4:15, The maintenance guy showed up when we were getting ready to leave for dinner reservations. Come to find out, the maintenance guy lived at the hotel and was ten doors down from us.

We had another concern about billing. The paper on the back of our hotel room door indicated the nightly rate was $179 and we were charged $196. When I addressed this with the front desk, she said “yes it’s a high rate weekend“. Interestingly enough, the paper on the back of the door said daily room rate and not average, insisting that the room rate was the same for every day of the week.

The TVs have about ten working channels. In the room descriptions, it shows “streaming TV enabled” but it’s literally a computer monitor with a cable box so you’re stuck to watch what they have.

Save yourself the hassle and don’t book here. It’s a bad hotel for the Wyndham name and price. I would have stayed at a motel 6 if there was one...

Adventure awaits at the Wingate in New Castle. From the moment you call and are greeted with “hello” instead of a formal business name, you know this place is special. Nestled between a car wash, a gas station, and McDonald’s, the hotel offers street front views of scenic I-70. After creeping your car over the sharp driveway egress you are greeted by the environmentally friendly dead landscaping and “lawn” made up of dirt and weeds. In order to control costs, ownership has dispensed with luxuries like paint or screens without holes—who needs pretty aesthetics anyway? Indoors you are greeted with what one can only assume is a hotel recreation feature, though riding an e-bike without a battery or seat might be difficult. Room access is easy since all hallways have laminate floors which make for easy bag rolling, but probably ample noise from voices and foot traffic. One can assume the rooms are clean based on the extensive scuff marks on all the door frames from the cleaning carts. We cannot speak to the rooms as upon seeing the exterior we opted not to stay; much like if a cockroach walked across your table while looking at the menu, you probably wouldn’t order food anyway. Sure hotels in Glenwood are $30/night more and offer upkeep and walk ability to major attractions and shopping, but where’s the rustic charm in that? Go for the adventure at Wingate New Castle. Cautionary tale: bookings through many booking sites are non refundable without management approval which will likely not be granted since they are quite proud of their “rustic charm” and your money which they already have.

My wife and I made an reservation for 3 nights to celebrate our Anniversary, after getting our confirmation the night before, I noticed saying no pets were allowed, after calling the front desk we were told pets were allowed and that the cost was $30/pet. When we arrived they person at the front desk informed me the total was per night as well. We ended up paying $180, but was told we would get $90 back. This turned out to be false and I was actually charged AN EXTRA $90. Not only that, but the next day when my wife and I left to grab some snacks and drinks we got 3 calls from the front desk complaining that our dogs were barking (we were gone for about 15 minutes) when we returned, we found that they were actively removing someone from the room next door to us (there was quiet a bit of yelling so I don't really blame my dogs). And to top it all off, the next morning when I went to take a shower, I noticed either black mold or mildew all along shower. One patch was actually painted over. That day my wife and I left and have been on a back and forth between this property, Hotels.com, and Wyndham itself to get any kind of return or actions for this. I don't recommend this hotel or any in the Wyndham chain. Terrible service.
