I planned this trip there for myself and my two boys who are 11 and 14 years old. This was our 1st trip together. It was their Christmas gift from me so it was planned well in advance and it was highly anticipated. I picked this destination because I loved what I seen on the website. The pool, jacuzzi, steam room, work out room, the modern rooms, the balcony, and the trails. We were so excited for so long.We get there. And we had to park in the parking lot across the street like 1000 miles away. I couldnt afford valet. I LITERALLY had to make my boys wait halfway there...up those slippery stairs cuz I was about to have an asthma attack. At check in, at 3pm in which is when we got there, we were told to wait 15 minutes for someone to check the room after it was cleaned. We waited 20 minutes and no one ever came. So I went to the desk and asked if we can go to our room yet. The man at the desk told me to wait while he went and personally checked our room, which he did and he gave us 2 keys for the room and sent us on our way. Why did I lose a half hour out of my room time? Not sure how many weddings were going on but I wish I knew that ahead of time. Was really uncomfortable walking through wedding line ups, we literally had to put our backs to the walls a few times out of respect for wedding parties marching through. We get to our room and one of the keys didnt work. When we get in the room, it wasn't what I seen on the website. The rooms on the site were beautiful with stand up glassed showers, separate tubs, modern art, and balconies. Even my email said I would have a room with a balcony. Instead, we walk into a room on the bottom floor..no balcony. And a bathroom that resembles a Red Roof Inn bathroom. No separate shower with glass doors. No cool artwork. I will say though..the beds are AMAZING..i could live in one they are so comfy..pillows too. And the TV was spectacular. Huge but VERY upset we could not hook our Nintendo up we brought because the outputs on the side of the dresser holding the TV did not work. Very very upsetting. My main complaint. It was SO hot in the room. There is No option on the thermostats to change from heat to cold. So I put it on the lowest setting which was 65. I woke up 4 times throughout the night to step out on our ground floor "balcony" that's literally a foot deep to cool down my body temperature. I would of loved to sleep with the door open but my son wasn't feeling well and we were on the ground floor which I didn't want and that would of been unsafe. We swam from 5:30pm to about 8:30pm even though we got there at 3pm for the sole purpose of swimming but it was overly packed. Not one chair to sit on...and i have health problems so I really needed some kind of chair. I actually had to put our belongings in a planter. Funny..cuz I noticed the occupancy sign said 120. How do you guys keep track of that and how many kids are there with ZERO parent supervision?? The pool was FREEZING! I couldn't even get in. Was funny sitting back and watching everyone's expressions as they get in cuz of the cold though. We wake the next day, March 2nd,at 7am, my boys go swimming. Great time to swim..the pool was empty. Gotta say though, I had to keep leaving because of the overwhelming smell of chlorine. Here I am, at home, writing this, 9 hours after I stepped foot out the pool area and I'm STILL smelling chlorine, my food, my drinks, I have a headache...the chlorine level is INSANE. I go to the desk at 10:30am and ask if there's a complimentary breakfast. He says no. Wow. I pay almost $200 for a room I didn't expect and I can't even get a stale doughnut?? Then. My oldest son was so thirsty. He went to every vending machine for a drink and they were SOLD OUT! The last one stole his $2! When I informed the front desk, they said its a 3rd party that controls that and they cant help. You cant offer a bottle of water???? I'm extremely upset over our stay there. I lost my job after I already planned this vacation for me and my boys so money was extremely tight. I'm...
Read moreWe stayed for my brother in laws wedding that both my husband and 1 year old son (w/ mild special needs) stood up in. The hotel had a lot of potential for not only a weekend getaway but also a wedding. However, my husband and I were extremely disappointed in the hotel staff, the cleanliness of the room and the food at the banquet hall.
We arrived at 3 PM on a Thursday. Note that check-in begins at 3 PM. We were told that our room was not ready and they could not give us a time for it to be ready. When we asked why there was no time available the woman at the front desk informed us that they have made multiple calls to their housekeeping manager and the manager was not picking up his phone so they could not give anybody a time. There was about four other guests also waiting to check in who were not happy with their reasoning as well.
We explained that we have a one year old with medical needs and we have to be down here at 5:15 for the rehearsal. Anybody with a child understands traveling with children is difficult. We kindly explained our situation but the response was the same. At this point my son was quite fussy and I was given no options.
A very kind employee had driven over from some other part of the hotel did openly reprimand the two other front desk women explaining that this excuse of blaming housekeeping is not necessary and they should not be telling guests this excuse. She was obviously very upset with the situation but seemed to be in no position to move the check in process along. I’m not sure if that discussion she had openly with those employees was just for show to make the other guests feel better, it seemed odd.
We did not get a room until 430. This caused us to be late for the rehearsal and the dinner not to mention caused an issue with my sons sleep schedule which was nearly impossible to bounce back from the entire two day stay. Normally, I wouldn’t have written a review but this caused major issues the remainder of the stay.
The room was quite small for a king bed. It didn’t seem to have just been cleaned because it was quite dusty. The crib provided is not up to current safety standards but we did use our pack n play so that was a non-issue but if you’re in need of a crib, be mindful of this. The shower was nice but the showerhead was dirty, needed updating and had a lot of soap scum and buildup. Having a double sink is quite convenient. The set up of the vanity was useful and user-friendly. The TV was wonderful. The fridge was almost unusable because there was so much ice buildup in the inside that we could not store our sons food so we had to go get a cooler. You could maybe only fit three bottles of water upright. If there was no ice buildup it could have easily fit 10 to 12 normal sized water bottles. The bed was fine. It was fairly comfortable. The pillows were also nice. It was nice to have a little desk, a small chair, a nice desk chair and a small little vanity footstool. The closet was a good size. The rooms that had two beds had double the closet space. But if you’re looking for a big room, the one we stayed at was not. I saw other rooms from other family members and they were all about the same.
The wedding on the grassy knoll had very beautiful scenery however, the amount of geese poop was awful & unfortunate. At least they cleaned up the brick walkway before the ceremony started. During the rehearsal, it was full of mud and geese poop.
The food in the banquet hall was NOT good. MANY did not eat the soup or the salad. The soup tasted as if the chicken was rancid. The main courses chicken was questionable, the cauliflower was somehow burnt.
Others who were checking in the day of the wedding also could not check in till after the ceremony which ended at 5:30 which is obviously extremely inconvenient for many.
I WAS NOT compensated for having to check in late. At check out the woman un-empathetically apologized as if I...

My family and I traveled to the chicago area to spend Thanksgiving with my father and settled on the Hyatt Lodge due to its proximity to family as well as its “natural setting”. One of the first things you notice about the hotel is the fact that 2 minutes before getting there you are surrounded by large buildings, a sprawling mall and relative chaos. Once you turn into their property, all of this goes away. You are welcomed by towering oaks and nature. There is a pond and many walking trails throughout the woods and grass. It is very calming and welcoming and is the perfect “break” from the concrete jungle.
Once inside, the lobby is well kept, clean and organized and the hotel staff is helpful and always greets you with a smile (through their mask of course). All of my interactions with hotel staff were nothing less than great and much to my surprise, they all seemed in good to great spirits!
The rooms are great! They are clean and comfortable and welcoming. They do seem to be a foot or two narrower than some more modern hotels but it is honestly negligible and when you factor in all the positives, the room size is meaningless.
The pool/fitness center/spa facilities are some of the best I have personally experienced at a hotel! The pool is large and allows for many separate groups as well as lane swimmers to enjoy the water simultaneously. Additionally the hot tub area is very large as well and can accommodate several groups at once! To enter the pool, you do go through a gender specific locker/changing room, complete with bathroom, showers, steam room and sauna. Each day my family and I were there, we enjoyed the pool and facilities and never once had a negative interaction with anyone (patron or staff) and our kids enjoyed every second of it!
Now for the only two negatives…first, no free breakfast. Yes this stinks and I wish they had something for free but in todays day and age, Im not surprised and if this is what they feel they have to cut in order to maintain everything else, I think it is a very easy concession to deal with. Second, the parking. Parking does actually really suck and I wish this was different. You can pull up to the front to unload and check in and whatnot but the actual self parking lot is across the street. Its a couple hundred feet at most from the main entrance to the parking lot which really isnt bad but my concern comes more so with poor weather pr those who cannot get around as easily. The parking situation could be better but it could also be far worse! I have no reservations over the safety of me or my vehicle while parked there so that is a plus. If the distance to walk is a deal breaker, they do offer valet.
All in all, this is an excellent hotel! As stated above, we booked our next stay as soon as we got home because of all of the factors mentioned above. This has become our “hotel home” whenever we are in the chicagoland area! I cannot recommend it highly enough and I hope my review has helped even one person to decide to stay here!
For the record, I was not asked to do this review nor have I been paid, endorsed or compensated in any way shape or form for my review. I posted this of my own accord and simply due to the fact that we had such a great time and intend to...
