Soooo, even though Kentucky doesn't allow casinos, that's absolute crap. What they call "Historical Racing Machines" (HRM) are simply slot machines. They will talk about how each spin is based on historical outcomes of races, but there's truly no way for the player to obtain that knowledge and/or use it to their advantage, thus, Kentucky now has quite a few new, sparkling full on casino resorts. The one major difference I should mention is there are currently no table games allowed. So, getting that out of the way... Oak Grove casino has the incredible potential to be a true destination resort, unfortunately for their owners at Churchill Downs Inc, the location/any alternative leisure activities...I mean NOTHING. No shopping worth mentioning except for the hundreds of pawn shops, gun stores and a couple ff restaurants are it. I know that there are some that will espouse the glory of Clarksville/Montgomery County TN right across the border, do not have any expectations for anything decent in Clarksville. It's visually unappealing, traffic nightmare, no meaningful core and rampant poverty. Basically, come here and make sure the property has everything you need right there, because there's nothing to leave for. To the property...it truly is a sight to behold. The actual casino is ginormous (80,000 sq ft or so) with every game you could ever imagine laid out beautifully with a jaw dropping sports betting bar taking up a considerable chunk. There are multiple F&B options. There is a fast/casual spot trying really hard to look like a really big and always really empty spot prominently right off the casino floor. It's awful and I recommend eating ANYWHERE else. Naturally the cost is astronomical, which I expected, yet I have an expectation of a modicum of decent service (service was typically great, but two terrible let downs: here and the front desk staff that desperately needs a competent manager and full training) and at least edible when you're spending nearly $50 at their "cheap joint," getting a sandwich, fries, coke and a slice of cake.....it was an embarrassment. Recommendation - do not even consider it. There is what appears to be a very nice steakhouse, coffee shop and grab and go's throughout the rest of the property. There is also attached, a horse racing track/ D-list artists amphitheatre... although I hate harness racing (looks like Chariot races), being a Kentuckian, I do love almost all things equestrian with the exception of this type of racing, which is just pointless and boring. Again, sensing a theme, GORGEOUS track and amphitheater area...it comes down to a clear lack of a cohesive vision, unacceptable prices and a sub-par management team that SEVERELY underpays staff (like sub $10-11 hr for front desk workers, compared to a local Courtyard or Holiday Inn - $15.50 and $19 hr) whilst clearly unable and unwilling to train staff properly. I had some minor issues that I had to reach out to management about. Not emergency level, however definitely something I needed addressed during my 2 night stay. Reaching out numerous times, in person and his phone, repeated promises that they were just a little busy and were getting in touch momentarily. Never happened then and still hasn't happened to this day. The room was a true disappointment. It was very clean and no issues there. It was just like an updated Super 8, lacked efficiency, comfort or charm. No pool, workout facilities, room service or any other extras that are expected at the level they are aspiring for. I live in Calvert City, CDI knows what that means. Already, we feel as if we're being manipulated. A tiny little HRC outpost in an area with a significant geographic and transport upside, a robust hospitality sector and a city willing to bend to your will. Yet no hotel, f&b, amenities. Youve stripped away everything but the machines. That tells our community how much you truly value us. Pure greed is not a good look, CDI. Man, I really thought you'd be prepared for a true investment in the Commonwealth. Instead, you're treating us...
Read moreDon’t play higher denominations on the firelinks it’s bullcrap saying more chances to win those so called jackpots. I’ve lost 20 grand in a month just to fire links. Yeah when it’s packed they have the machines turned up just a little bit . Best believe if a lot of people win on Friday majority of Saturday will be take take take . I’ve witnessed it too much and have no reason to lie. I gamble for fun but this place just doesn’t scratch that itch. Even on fridays or Saturdays which ever day is paying it’s still hard to win due to people will hold up machines and whatever is available usually doesn’t hit for me. They’re not random generated number machines either . Bet 4.00 bucks on the X10 and I bet majority will pay exactly 13.00. I’ve seen majority of the 1cent denominations at 5.00 a spin pay more jackpots . (stop so call gambling here)… so I been going here recently due to waiting for my vacation to come at work .. I’m starting to notice either they have control of the machines or they have broken coded machines. I’ve been playing a few grand a night here and notice on a certain group of machines(fire link) went into the bonus and paid the exact same 13.00 on a 4.00 bet . This happened a lot actually . Something doesn’t seems right machines are supposed to be random generated reels no way they are on the same spins. Do either way you’re not gambling they’re either choosing whether you win or not or the machines are broken and you still won’t win. Also only time I win (which is rare) is when I lose a good bit. Funny how I never win before I’ve lost . Save your money fly to Vegas . I’ve learned this casino doesn’t have competition close enough so they take a lot . I’ve started flying to Vegas and in my 22 years of gambling I’ve made more in one year of Vegas due to the competition and real regulations they have to follow . This casino is not worth funding due to corporate greed ! 99/100 times you’re going to lose , if you want to lose money put it in a savings account and forget about it . Don’t support this burden on society . They’re not here for you or me but to like their pockets. Casinos are rigged for their profits not for yours . Go to Evansville better slot choices and you may actually feel better about losing your money . Stop supporting these greedy corrupt people. Also Just a heads up you have to bet max for jackpot from what I see . Not like my old casinos in Mississippi where people could jackpot off 50cent bets . If you look around you’ll notice everyone who jackpots are betting the maximum which on a lot of their machines are ridiculously high . Good luck people looking a for a easier way in life this isn’t it . Weekdays and weekends are tight pick your poison . I’ve lost over 25 grand here in the past 2 months and nothing in return . Goodbye oak grove you won’t ever see me again just wanna say thank you for breaking my...
Read moreThe rooms are a good size, the lighting is a bit harsh, but it's fine. AC doesn't go below 68 as a setting and it's more likely your room will stay at 70 no matter what. There's several things that as a disabled consumer I take notice of. The ada compliant room was... nice but the door is not wide enough for a wheel chair to fit -comfortably- it fits but you have to angle it exactly right. The door itself is HEAVY and not automated this makes opening and entering very difficult without a second person, and security had to help hold the door. The elevator door timing is also a minor inconvenience in that the doors tend to close before a wheelchair can enter the elevator itself.
The rooms themselves are nice enough, roomy which is very nice, but the ceilings are distractingly unfinished. The carpets are high traffic density which makes wheelchair use a painstaking process. Motorized chairs struggle but manual is just painful to use especially in the casino. On the casino, the STAFF is amazing. The machines are decent but a bit complicated to use Freeplay credits. The process is complicated and the easiest way to learn it is to ask for a staffer to help. The pamphlet is not entirely helpful and could use clarification. The casino floor itself is smocked filled and loud, as one would expect. But if you have breathing problems be aware. While sections are marked no smoking that is simply not feasible. Smoke doesn't pay attention to no smoking signs and it carries throughout the space. A mask is necessary to play the games more comfortably.
Last point - the staff. The staff here is AMAZING and go above and beyond whenever they can. Housekeeping is the only lacking point. USE YOUR DO JOT DISTURB placard. The morning housekeeping just kind of opened the door instead of knocking so DEFINITELY use that sign. We found some areas where the first room wasn't cleaned properly, front desk immediately acted and got us a replacement room. The front desk, again, deserve commendations for their work. They have been amazing.
Overall it's a decent hotel, be aware of the prices and if you're handicapped bring a second because you will need aide with the heavy doors and other minor things. But having a friend is always fun at a casino anyway.
Edit: again I cannot speak highly enough about the staff here. Not only did they listen and take my concerns seriously the staff are even trying to implement changes to make the hotel and casino more disability friendly! Complaints and concerns were not just brushed aside but taken to heart and change is likely. Thank you for being...
