Driving through the area on 07/02/2022 around 3 am, we were exhausted and this was the only nearby option. We stayed in the brick building that houses the check in desk.
It was pretty dark and although the exterior didn't appear run down it appeared a little older/outdated and being that it's located in a small area our expectations weren't great.
Were we in for a surprise? YES!!! A very pleasant and unexpected surprise!
This hotel wasn't fancy, posh or extremely modern BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY a closer look and inspection revealed that it was cleaner than any 5 star hotel we have EVER stayed in.
We come armed with hand held UV black lights and magnifying glasses. We move mattresses away from the wall (nice, comfortable mattress by the way) and look between the box springs and mattress for evidence of bed bugs or anything else (you'd be surprised at the things we have found). We do this in every place we stay and there was NOTHING found here. Completely clean! Not so much as a stray hair or piece of lint was anywhere to be found and believe me we inspect everything.
The air-conditioner/heater combo unit was the cleanest we have ever seen! EVER!
Hats off and much respect to the house keeping staff. Keep up...
Read moreMy Dad passed away on January 18 and lived in Onawa. During the time of his funeral there was a blizzard and 14 inches of snow in Sioux City where I live. We decided to stay so we wouldn't miss the funeral and again another night because traveling back was to dangerous. During the first night my daughter pulled down the sheet and saw black dirt on the sheets, heading down to the front desk there was dog poop in the hall, we had a non smoking room and walking out of our room door was an overwhelming smell of cigarettes, I stayed two nights and was charged for three and when I brought this to the attention of the manager she got very defensive and basically told me it wasn't her problem, she did end up fixing that for me. There also was no vending machines and they had limited snacks behind the desk knowing there was a storm coming and I had three kids with me. Lastly the day of checkout my brother came out of his room and told my sister and I he found a cockroach on his girlfriends straightener. Not a very good experience but had no other choice because this is the only motel in...
Read moreDO NOT Stay here, UNLESS It is the middle of winter and you are broke down on the side of the road!!! There was an outage I guess so there was NO INTERNET and NO TV. Me and my boyfriend broke down in our truck and this was the only hotel in sight. We went to book a room online for $95 after tax but she said she can't reach any bookings due to the outage and proceeded to charge us $112 after tax for a room with literally nothing we could do. We checked in at 9pm, then asked for a late check out so we could wait for the tow truck but they said we couldnt because 2 other people had already asked to check out late. They were rude and had NO understanding. For anyone wondering about the breakfast it was as basic as it gets, cereal and frozen waffles I will never stay here again! Only thing positive about the hotel is that there is a gas station that's 24/7 and a couple restaurants. Just go down the road and find something better than this. I've stayed in hundreds of hotels and have never been...
