First and foremost, it should be said that hospitality at the 1895 Washington Hotel is exceptional. Upon check in, we were given a brief tour of the first floor of the historic home and shown Washington lineage as well as an original mirror in the home that had markings on it from the historic flood. Our room in the second building was average in size but the advertised queen beds did seem a bit smaller than any queen beds that we had slept in. They seemed a little more like a European double but this was not of much concern as the wife and I fit fine (two larger individuals may take this into consideration though ).

We booked a room with a balcony as we were under the assumption that this building was in historic downtown but, unfortunately, it's a bit on the wrong side of town and the only view from our balcony was of a run down dollar store, a paint store, and the police station. Walking would be possible to the downtown area but some might be uncomfortable doing so due to the surrounding area. Parking was also a bit of a problem as despite having a private lot behind the hotel that had room for at least 8 vehicles by our count, we and other guests were instructed to either park on the road or across the street in a bank parking lot. Neither option seemed ideal and it seemed that most guests opted for the bank parking lot. In the end, everything worked out just fine.

Breakfast in the morning was without any options and we were served a small cheese omelet, a meat side, and a pancake. Again, hospitality was great as the owner told stories, answered questions, and chatted with all guests.

If I could rate on hospitality alone, 1895 would easily be a 5 star review. Unfortunately, for the price point, almost every B&B that we've been to is doing things better. Though a $120/night would be quite fair for 1895, the $200+/night rate seems a touch high considering there are no real amenities to speak of (hot tub, private areas, local goodies left in room, etc), no decent parking options, nor any choice of breakfast and a very basic breakfast at that. I do believe that this B&B has great potential and would love to re-visit as it...

The rooms are nice especially the king with twin xl room. The service however is the worst I have experienced in years. They advertised free breakfast but when guests get there the manager states that because they lowered their price. breakfast is $15 per person. I mentioned that when I booked it said free. She agreed that the website said free so because of that, she would comp free breakfast for one day. Now I booked a three night stay so that was not acceptable. She stated that she would call the owner and see if we could get breakfast free for all three days and the owner agreed. When I talk to other guests they were also told that breakfast would no longer be free because of price decrease on the rooms even though it said free when they booked. Many guests paid the $15 for the breakfast. It only consisted of single serving of sausage, eggs, French toast and yogurt along with coffee and orange juice. What did rip off!! Second problem is they made you park on the street which is a busy one way street or you can park across the street on another businesses private property. There were enough parking spaces in the driveways behind the two buildings to park at least 15 cars. The manager parked her car there but everyone else had to park on the street at their own risk or dodge cars by parking across the street. There's absolutely no reason that guests should not have been allowed to park in the parking spaces behind the house. There is one iron and it was an $8 proctor silex iron. The cheapest one you can find in Walmart. When I asked for an ironing board the manager stated that they did not have one. Later she claimed to have found it and brought it over. The 1895 Washington Hotel unfortunately has 1895 customer service and it needs to be upgraded to the 21st century. Owners your service is terrible. It is disgraceful to charge $15 for that breakfast when you advertised and people booked rooms with a free breakfast included. Why can't guest park behind the house? Your manager parks there and there is...

This is our interaction with the owner. ||Absolutely do not bring up politics. In a business you have people from all sides of politics. After checking in we were concerned that we made the wrong choice in staying with you. Last year we stayed and loved it. You took that feeling away as soon as you brought up the Jan 6 mess at the State Capitol and people in jail or prison shouldn't be out. Why was it even brought up? No one was talking that. We were just getting acquainted with you. Your daughter was lovely. She was friendly and helpful. But then you came out and it got ugly. Not everyone agrees in what you do therefore restrain from taking about politics ever. Religion is the same. ||||Not sure we will be coming back and the people we have told about staying with you will go on our recommendations. Last year was our first experience at a BnB and it was amazing. Unfortunately after this year not at all. ||||Very disappointed in your conversation as we know the lady in the dining room from Germany was too as she said as she walked away, let's not go there when you started up on politics again. My husband told you the same thing.||||The other disappointment was the towels in the room we had. None were there and we had to find them in the hallway in a cabinet. Expecting soft luxurious ones from a BnB was not what we got. Old ratty ones. Rough and everything was mismatched and old. Staying in the guest house last year was an amazing experience. Everything was wonderful. ||||I hope you change your way when it comes to how you talk to people paying to stay at your BnB and...

I struggled with writing this review. The property manager, James was such a nice man. I think he is a truly great person, so I feel bad about it, but I think I owe it to other travelers to be honest. My daughter and I booked a room in the “guest house” when coming to town to settle my mom’s estate. First, the front door does not auto-lock, so your safety depends on all of the guests (6 rooms I believe) to lock the door every time they come & go. Our particular room also had an exterior door off a deck with a keypad lock. You must park at an adjacent dollar store behind the property or across the street at a business. We did not feel safe at all. The bed linens were very old and felt “questionably clean”. They probably were, but just not inviting to snuggle up in in the least! The towels were old and worn out, stains in the tub, folded papers under furniture legs to level them up… When I asked for an additional towel, I followed James to the closet to get it. There was one wadded towel on a shelf that he started to hand me until I asked if he was sure it was actually clean. He wasn’t. We made a quick trip to the store and upon our return we found the front door unlocked and the house empty. To he honest, we were just all around uneasy so we immediately got our things and left to check in at another establishment. Their policy does not allow for refunds, so I got stuck with paying for 3 nights when we spent less than 15 minutes totally on the property. Just understand what you are getting before you book. Sorry James.

Unique Experience with Some Quirks We stopped in Paducah on a road trip and chose this place for its promise of comfortable beds and a relaxing stay. While it didn't have a hot tub, our room's whirlpool tub was a lovely surprise. James was friendly and helpful with reservations and check-in. *The Good:* - The whirlpool tub was a great way to unwind after a long drive - The bed was very comfortable, and the room was clean - The antique furniture added a unique touch to the room *The Not-So-Good:* - The room's decor was inconsistent, with furniture from different eras - We couldn't adjust the room temperature, but the ceiling fan helped - The small sink with limited counter space was a bit of a challenge - No hook for the hand towel in the bathroom would be a nice addition - The walls weren't well-insulated, and we could hear conversations from the common area *Safety Concerns:* - The lack of a deadbolt on the doors was a notable omission, especially considering the keyless entry system *Practicalities:* - The location is about 10 minutes from the highway, which wasn't a problem for us - Street parking might be a challenge during peak capacity, but the shared driveway is available for loading and unloading - The nearby Dollar General is a convenient perk Overall, our stay was comfortable, but some quirks and safety concerns kept it from being perfect. If you're looking for a unique experience and don't mind some eccentricities, this might be the place for you.

My spouse and I took a small mini getaway. We live in central Kentucky and decided to take a spur of the moment trip. We on a whim decided to head to Paducah. I was about to book a typical hotel room and came across the description of this and my spouse loves history and I love antiques and older architecture. We decided to do something out of our comfort zone and booked here instead. We chose a room in the accompanying guest house. Our room was the perfect combination of brocade and modern. The main house was filled with charm and history. Our host was phenomenal. His excitement about the property was fantastic and we felt right at home. I was entranced by the gold mirror in the room in front of the dining room. Learning of its unique history in relation to the history of the early floods in Paducah was fascinating. Our breakfast was fantastic. My favorite thing from the meal was the locally sourced honey which was the best honey I have ever had and the ginger tea in beautiful tea cups and saucers even though they were just accoutrements it just added something special to the experience. We will definitely return when in the area again and will be recommending to friends and family. The negative reviews surprised me because it is exactly as it’s meant to be. If you want a 5 star luxury hotel then stay at one. Personally, this beat any chain hotel stay I have ever had with some really cool luxury aspects. The hydromassage tub and the mattress were both exquisite.
