Our reservation was December 28-December 30, after a long day at Zion, we finally arrived to Lake Powell Resort approximately 7 pm on December 28, 2024. We were told by the front desk agent that the hotel was completely sold out and all they had left was one King Bed room but it should still have a view. So I was cool about it and was like oh okay it's for sure a full view right? (I just wanted my anniversary to be perfect, and I was hoping that when we wake up to see the sunrise my partner can see the view and be mesmerized) The front desk was like "yes."
When we arrived to our room we noticed that we're on the ground floor and the pool with trees are in front of us, so we called and asked if it's for sure a room with a view, I mean of course it's dark so we can't see anything but we just wanted to make sure before we settle in. She said yes but if we want they can switch us out to the room that we actually book the next morning. We were satisfied with that response so we were like okay great thanks!
We woke up the next morning, and just what we expected we couldn't see the view so we had to walk out to the front of the pool to be able to see the view that we longed for like in the pictures, we weren't mad we were just mesmerized because it's beautiful! Plus we thought that the hotel was going to take care of us.
We called in the morning approx 7:30 AM and spoke to a gentleman and he was so nice about it and promised that a room with two queen beds with a view will be available later on he said he will have to call back during check in time and he will call our cell phone on file, and he was nice enough to offer a $40 partial credit since we spent 1 out of 2 nights in a room that we did not book. We accepted that offer. And we repeatedly confirmed, $40? he said yes. We were cool with this and we went on with our day because we had a tour at the Antelope Canyon anyways and we had a blast.
We came back and it was around 3pm, we still haven't heard anything from them. We literally wasted a whole day already and wanted to come back to our hotel room and want to just enjoy our last night with the view we paid for. So we called the front desk again, this time a female lady answered and she said well the room we are currently in is a room with a view supposedly, but it's handicap accessible, but she ALSO agreed that we have an obstructed view due to the pool and trees between us and the view of the lake.....so she told us to pack up and meet by the pool to retrieve our new room key. We then confirmed with her about the $40 partial credit if it was processed, she said yes he did process that earlier. And please note we confirmed 3 times that it was 40 DOLLARS, NOT PERCENT, DOLLARS.
We finally made it to the room we booked with two queen beds and the view upstairs was OUT OF THIS WORLD. IT WAS beautiful. made me forget everything that's been going on and it was worth waiting for even though.....we only had like 3 hours of the day left to enjoy this view.......
The next day we checked out and we felt like even though the time we had in the correct room was short but the hotel made it right and we had the view and we were happy so we left to go hiking at Zion National Park once more. That is when I chat with orbitz, and asked them if the $40 credit was processed.
First off, they called Lake Powell Resort just to find out they didn't process the credit yet, but they lied and said it was 40% percent of the resort fee only.....which equal 7 dollars, when my total for two nights was almost 470? So you will refund me 7 dollars for the inconvenience you have caused....? And we repeatedly confirmed verbally 40 dollars, not percentage. I thought Lake Powell took care of us and turned the whole situation around.....I am deeply...
Read moreI want to start by saying, with the word resort in your title, a resort standard should be upheld. I wish I would have read reviews before our stay here, but I trusted the word “resort” and with the prices we paid per night, I expected an exceptional stay. Basically every complaint in the reviews from 2 and 3 months ago are still ongoing. The lack of response from the “resort” on any of the bad reviews, and the continued lackluster hospitality just goes to show that they do not care. To start, the girl at the check in desk was alone to check people in and answer phones(which she never did the 2 times we tried to call from our room). This led to a lengthy check in process. We were informed that we had the lounge available for dinner(despite the website stating multiple dinning options), and that in the mornings Starbucks and in house made pastries would be available( not completely like most places). The lounge was good and the weight staff were great….this will be the only positive thing you will read here. When we arrived to our room, there was takeout food still in the fridge from the previous guests. Wi-fi never worked. The k-cup coffee in the room is not consumable. There were no trash bags in the trash cans. There was mold in the shower. There were only 3 towels when we had 4 guests. These towels there nearly threadbare and had a moldy smell. After not getting an answer when we called the front desk, my husband drove back over. We were told house keeping would bring some. After an hour we called again, no answer, drove over again, housekeeping had gone home, she will have maintenance bring some by. After another hour, he drove over again, maintenance has gone home, she will get security to bring some by, he decided to stay up front this time to get the towels from them. Finally our kids can shower!! The girl up there was having a hard time as she only had 1 remaining room and 7 people still arriving for check in….how does this happen? The guests turned away probably thought this was a bad turn of events for them, but I think they got off better than us. Next morning, the “Starbucks” was just their cafe brewing Starbucks coffee, the girl was by herself with an entire hotel of guests there getting their coffee and pastries. The other girl was fired and this was her first day. The coffee was basically just milk as she had no idea what she was doing. Oh, and they forgot to make the pastries the night before, so no food for anyone. After complaining upfront over all these issues, we come to find out that that everyone is getting laid off and they know it! When you treat your employees poorly, you get poor performance. When you don’t care about your employees, you don’t care about your guests or their stay. The manager was only ever there for 3 hours a day so we never did see her until check out and she provided no apology and did not offer anything to make our stay better. Needless to say, we will never stay here again, the views do not make up for the poor hospitality and disgust we experienced. You can get those views with a short drive over from in town. We have told all of our friends and family about our poor experience so they will never go either. Do not expect to experience all the amenities listed on their website if it is off season. A disclaimer or update should be provided on the site for minimized availability during off season. So much false advertising. Hope this helps others make a better choose...

Location: Great location, right on Lake Powell and close to the dam. Hotel: Nice hotel, a bit outdated but still solid. There are three restaurants, a small market with the most important things. There is a coffee shop which is open from 6am. Unfortunately, when we wanted to get a coffee at sunrise, we saw that the espresso machine was broken. There was only filter coffee. The employee said it had been like that for weeks and she was just waiting for a new machine to be delivered. So no espresso, cappuccino or anything else. What a pity. We had dinner in the restaurant (or bar). The pasta with mushrooms was really tasty. The price was okay at around 18$.
Room: The room was spacious, there was a fridge with freezer compartment. The balcony door was defective, which is why it could not be opened properly. You had to use a lot of force to push it back and forth and pull it up to get it to open. The shower gel container was unfortunately already empty on arrival. Not so tragic but obvious. Before we left the room one day, we put up the do not disturb sign as we didn't need cleaning for 2 nights and preferred to leave our things as they were (which wouldn't have been appropriate for cleaning). When we came back, the room had been cleaned. The staff did not follow the guest's wishes. They didn't even refill the shower gel container. Hmm. We informed reception about this and the broken balcony door and asked for more discretion. The employee promised to take care of it. However, there was no need for action on our part for the last few hours of our stay because of the balcony door, so we offered to have it repaired after our departure. Therefore, I cannot judge whether it was really repaired or whether it will be left as it is. We wondered how previous room occupants or the cleaning staff reached the balcony if the door was so broken.
Pools: 2 pools, one bigger than the other. But both not very large. A lot of kids playing and diving in from the sides despite it being forbidden. No chance to swim in peace. Not a lot of sunbeds for the amount of guests available.
Staff: At check-in we were greeted in a friendly manner by Keshawn (?). We experienced him quite differently at check-out. There was nothing going on at reception and we went to hand in our key cards. Then it was just "one moment sir". Keshawn then ran through all the computers the reception desk had to offer and wildly typed in something. After 5 minutes I called back and said that I just wanted to hand in my room cards. Then just "one moment sir". A total of 10 minutes passed and I wasn't even given a glance. I asked again if anything else was needed or if I could help to speed up the process. In the meantime, more people came to reception to check out and Keshawn was just engrossed in the computer. I then had enough and put down the room cards and told him to check us out in peace when he had time, we were leaving the hotel now. Again, no eye contact and not a word back. That's just not on. It really spoiled the whole experience. I can't understand how someone like that can be in service contact with customers. What a cheek.
All in all, the stay was good, but the staff could definitely be more attentive. We are still in dispute with the hotel about the incorrect amount being debited...
