Reviewing hotels near colleges and universities - $124.10 for one night at Carnegie House near Penn State I could only stay for three hours because I had to get to the airport the next morning, but it was so clean adorable and an easy drive to the campus! Bonus points if you can guess how many times I said cute 😂 #hotelreview #hotelroom #hotellife #travelreviews #traveltiktok

Ambience is very well executed. Food was a mix of stellar and poorly prepared. Salmon appetizer was very nice. I have to say that the salad was a perfect mix of tart greens, silky dressing and crispy bacon. My entree was a lamb wellington that was disappointingly soggy with vegetables that were not cooked properly. All the rest of the food was quite good as was the service until the server brought us the entrees........my employee ordered filet and he received short ribs. He made her aware of the mistake when she sat both of the plates down (mine was right), but she left us to check. She came back, took my fork off my plate and took both plates, for what I would assume would go back to the kitchen. NO NO SHE DIDNT. SHE DELIVERED THE TWO PLATES TO TWO OTHER PATRONS ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE RESTAURANT!!! I was so stunned i didn't say anything. Still stunned. We moved to dessert and we ordered an apple that wasn't an apple. A white chocolate shell full of apple dessert that, I was told, was an otherworldly experience. My dessert was smores served outside at the fire. How cool right? So I started to go to the fire. No. The waitress started the fire and rather than take the dessert to the fireplace she makes me carry the rather large plate outside. She gives me no napkins and I sit down in a chair and it is full of the days rainwater. How unreasonable of me to expect that she would dry off a seat or two for us at a restaurant where our dinner would be $300. Nope. It has great potential but it seems operations are a little sloppy. The owner of this establishment would be mortified by ny experience and further mortified to know of my position since they are a AAA 4 Diamond Restaurant.

Wow, we were blown away by this beautiful luxurious hotel! Only 21 rooms so I’m hesitant to even tell people about how great this is because it may end up being hard to get back in here! We were on a last minute overnight motorcycle ride with another couple and found this on Expedia fur a great price. Feels like you’re walking into a beautifully decorated and welcoming home. The guy behind the desk when we walked in was so friendly and hospitable! He walked us to our room to show us the room, tell us about the amenities and how to use the lighting and offered to go get us a bucket of ice. The room was beautifully done and felt so luxurious. So many little quality details were put into this room/hotel. From the top quality bedding, decor, tea pot, coffee pot, beautiful bathroom, bathrobes, couch and chairs for seating, everything was perfect, immaculate and spotless. They had a pub & restaurant on site that looked and smelled wonderful, but we didn’t have time to eat here. There was a nice front porch, nice sitting area in the lobby and an outside area in the back with tables, a fire pit and a garden with a golf course view.

I was looking forward to booking this exclusive spot State College for 3 nights. I was able to book a good deal on a 3rd party site (first mistake) and it all went downhill from there. The room was dirty with a deflated black balloon behind the couch cushion, Doritos crumbs in the toilet room and dried toothpastes on the leg of the bathroom vanity. There were no linens for the pull out bed, and when they brought linens it was a fitted sheet and a top sheet. Nothing else. Toiletries provided were adequate, if you wanted to smell like a lumberjack. No menus or information about anything in the rooms, just a bible. Fridge barely worked and the entire back of the unit was frosted over. Advertised Chromecast for entertainment only worked intermittently.

I was called on the second to last day of my reservation and asked, "when will you be checking out". When I said that I was booked through the following day, the blame was placed on the new system that had just gone live.

I have never felt so uninvited by a hotel establishment. When I brought these concerns to the front desk, I was given the "sorry" I would have received from one of my teenagers who forgot to put the milk back in the refrigerator. We left the night before we were supposed to check out because I was so disgusted.

When I was handling my early checkout, I was told that a receipt would be emailed to me in the morning. I provided my name, email address and phone number on hotel stationary. When I awoke to no receipt in my inbox I called and was told that they were not able to provide me a receipt for $0 incidentals and that the receipt would be provided by the 3rd party service. I had to provide a physical card at check in, but they couldn't provide a receipt showing $0 incidentals.

If you want a luxurious hotel experience, don't book here. I was swayed by velvet couches and a big shower. Don't...

FRAUDULENT BUSINESS- DO NOT MAKE A HOTEL RESERVATION

We booked a hotel reservation at Carnegie House and received an electronic confirmation however, when we arrived at the hotel they claimed that they did not have a reservation for us. We asked if they had a room and the front desk manager said that he did not know and he needed to call his manager who was not onsite. He refused to call the manager in front of us and instead went into the back to call. When he came back he said that they did not have a room. Clearly they had a room because he had the hotel computer in front of him. He said that the manager did not answer, so how did he suddenly know that he did not have a room?

He also said that they were having issues with 3rd party sites overbooking the hotel. However, we did not book with a 3rd party site. We booked with the hotel directly. If they knew that they were having issues with overbooking, why did they not bother to alert everyone who had a reservation online that there may be a problem?

We had traveled from the West Coast and this happened at 9:45 PM, so it was very late and we had no place to stay.

What is very odd is that I called the hotel the day before to check on amenities in the room. We were left a message by the hotel to say that they were looking forward to our arrival. Another odd thing is that they had our personal information in their system. How was that possible if they did not have our reservation? We had never stayed at the hotel before.

The front desk person said that the manager would contact us first thing the next morning when she was back in. Of course, we never heard anything the next day or any day after.

Unless you want to be stranded in State College without a room, I recommend that you NOT make a reservation to stay...
