Looked up reviews to find State College PA'S highest rated restaurant. Wasn't all too impressed. Ordered the table French fries soggy and way over seasoned with Cajun seasoning and a over complicated mix of blended sauce to go with it not exciting unless, I had been drunk. If you want a heart attack from salt overload, get this one. Ordered the sea food bisque bowl lots of meats a plus but, a mediocre flavor and not creamy at all might as well been swimming in 2% milk and not cream a disappointment this dish needed seasoning, I guess it all went to the fries. Ordered 3 Ribeye Steak Sandwiches on rosemary ciabatta bread. the steak might as well be skirt steak ground to a pulp and the ciabatta bread wasn't crisp and toasty on the outside it was a soggy wet old boot and not a comfortable long slipper as its name derives from. meat overcooked and bland rosemary bread tasting like it wasn't fresh. My daughter and son plus, me couldn't find the hunger to eat it. these meals have a good idea but aren't being quality checked. Bread was wet before we even ate it. I eat ribeye steak several times a month if this was ribeye it's the most chopped up over processed blandest ribeye I've ever come across. Portions are large but I'd choose quality over quantity any day. ordered lettuce and tomato as a add on for the sandwiches our lettuce had plenty of wilt and the tomatoes were limp and soggy like a dish rag. I want fresh ingredients when I order $20 dollar sandwiches. served up with big barrel pickle and in house precooked chips bland as the oil they were overcooked in. au jus smelled like beef and feet it smelled repulsive no, seriously it did no joke. I'm not even mad at this establishment I just have certain expectations when I spend $110. for a meal. My wife had a chicken and bacon sandwich she said it was fine. I trust her judgement on that. I've worked at a ton of restaurants the lack of effort and the care of staff these days makes me want to cry not just here but just about everywhere I go anymore. Our waitress came to take our order drop off our drinks then was nonexistent we had to sit all of our cups empty at the end of the table then wait for our food to be served to be refilled. She did her disappearing act once again and never asked how the food was just delivered our check when she thought we were done, I guess. On our way out I found all of Houdini's gather at the front to have a powwow of laughs and good conversation waiting on their largely over...
Read moreThe expectation was well above what we experienced, now im not a snob however, while the location is prime for golf and Penn state activities, we mustn't forget to maintain your property, the dilapidated green awning needs gone or replaced, the landscaping was severely lacking, and the front door to "The field " literally hit my wife where the lord split her, on her tush as we stepped inside, the mechanism that stops the door from slamming was broken and falling off the inside of the door. Mind you this place can charge as high as 1200 bucks a night..... ABSOLUTELY not! Ok... we chose a booth and were promptly seated. The waitress was professional and attentive, answering questions about the menu and recommendations. While waiting for food and taking in the ambiance we noticed the fake plants covered in dust bunnies right above our table, yum right? Then looking a bit higher up the HVAC ducts which are huge bare pipes on the ceiling, also covered in dust bunnies.... again checking the Hotel room rates and seeing them as high as 1200 dollars some days this Restaurant's cleanliness leaves much to be desired. I would hate to inspect the kitchen and walk-in fridge for what I might find in there. Finally the food.... it arrived well presented on plate and was plated and presented nicely. She had the "Perfect pear", I had the "steak sandwich". The perfect pear is a turkey burger with arugula, brie cheese, pear slices, and fried onion straws, with homemade chips on the side. The burger was dry, and not seasoned. The Brie cheese still had the freaking rind on it and it was on my wife's burger, careless cooking? When working with a dryer protein such as turkey and making burgers out of it one MUST use the fruit.... if it's called the perfect pear. Make a pear puree and add that to your dry turkey, with some salt and pepper. Presto you got a winner. Anyway, the steak sandwich.... tasty, seasoned, thank God! The bun could have been toasted longer to prevent the auju from turning the bread into dough. All in all, it would seem to me that someone in the kitchen at "The Field" has lost their passion for food. It shows in the quality or lack there of. Sadly I don't think I'd return. Perhaps one day in the future to see if they actually listen to criticism. However, I make no promises. Enter at...
Read moreSo I took my son and husband out to dinner for my son bday and went to The Field in Toftrees . We sat outside because it was beautiful day. We arrive our waitress came over and had drinks on the table within minutes. We ordered our food around 530pm. At 649pm we still did not have food, the sun was going down and it started to get chilly. I went inside and found my waitress I asked if we could sit inside since the sun was going down. She said not a problem. Minutes later a young girl with a nose piercing who I would assume is a hostess came over. I said, “I just asked the waitresses if we could move inside since it was getting chilly” and before I could finish my sentence the hostess said no and we would either have to go sit outside because that is where we picked or go on a wait list..a wait list???I was like I don’t understand there are 4 empty tables and our food should be out any minute. She said People have been waiting and we will have to sit those people first. I was like mind blown we have not waited over an hour for our food, it’s my sons bday, and they sat about 15 tables and they could not sit us right away but could put us on the wait list. What was going to happen with our food. Would they send out cold once we got to our table whenever that was going to be. She then proceeded to ask me husband."I can try to explain to you how this works" All she had to do is say let me see what I can do , but she kept being rude and kept talking over us. Super disappointing that this child who was running the front desk did not display any empathy and lacks the training on how to handle customers. She did not offer to get a manager involved. This forced us to get our food to go, ruin my son bday dinner but don’t worry I tipped my waitress a 40% tip. I work for a multi billion dollar customer forward company and would be absolutely embarrassed if one of my 100 direct reports ever treated someone the way this hostesses treated me. Me and my associates take clients to this establishment on a monthly basis but looks like we should be taking our business to different establishment that actually cares about their customers.. I’m sure nothing will come from this but wanted to share my...
