After reading many of the reviews I decided to take a chance at this hotel. The overwhelm of 4 or 5 stars, recent, reviews swayed me that management took actions from those lower rated reviews and fixed/corrected the problems/issues that was called out. And to be honest 3x the points for an 8 night stay with the other promos that IHG is currently running played a big part too. Upon checking it I wasn't acknowledged as a Platinum elite member nor was given the opportunity to choose my welcome gift by the girl that checked me in. Also she came off a bit snobbish for most of the interactions I had with her. It wasn't until my last 2 days that she became more friendly with our interactions. She works the evening/night shift during the week. So it's not like there was anyone else I could speak with if I needed something. I booked a 2 queens bed and once I received the keys to my room I saw it was on a lower floor and asked if there was any on a higher floor. The 2 queens turned into a king and had I known this I would have just kept the 2 queens, you will find out why soon. She didn't even tell me before changing my room type that if I got the higher floor I would have lost the other bed. Another opportunity missed for me to be given a choice. Finally got to the room only to discover that there was hair all over the sink area and some of the floor as well as the shower. What I wasn't expecting is for more hair around the sink and on the floor than in the shower. There were also some areas in room that was simply skipped over on sweeping. I wasn't informed on how housekeeping scheduled worked upon checking it and not sure because of the length of my stay that they came everyday unless you put your "do not disturb" sign up. I don't mind daily housekeeping and for it to be offered is a plus in my book especially since a lot more expensive or luxury hotels don't offer it as often. However, this is why, unless I stayed at the hotel before, I get 2 queen beds. The 1st couple of days they came my towels were replaced and trash was empty, although the floor wasn't swept, since it was a "light refresh service". I requested a sheet change on my 4th night and usually that comes with a "full service" except again the floors wasn't swept. Although, 90% of everything else was done. 3 days before my departure I requested a full service so that hopefully the floors get clean and when I came back to the room only to find that they put a set of towels down and did nothing else. No taking the dirty towels or emptying the trash nor refreshing my sheets. So I had to call down to request it again. The next day when house keeping came to knock on my door to ask what I needed I told her and the time to come back to do it as I was just about to shower. When I came back to the room I was bit skeptical but to my surprise she did a good job. There were some areas that didn't get properly swept but 97% of the room was clean. So I thank her for that. I didn't get her name but I'm sure they can give her the proper thanks from me. Although on my last night no one showed up to even drop off towels so I had to go down to the front desk to get some. There wasn't much of a breakfast selection that was for me. Outside of the chewy granola bar which I liked. I don't consume pork so there want much of any other "hot" options. For most of my stay I did have some noisy guest beside/underneath me that played loud music mostly late at night. I travel with a white noise machine so that helps with that mostly. I also was overcharged on a snack item that I charged to my room. The 1st night I arrived I got chips and soda that came out to about $6 bucks. I got the same thing another day and was charged $4 for both items. Although I was using my f$b rewards but still if I wanted to get something else I wouldn't have been able to because of this overcharge. And last but not least the shower water pressure sucks and the sink water would get hotter than the shower water. The shower at best was warm didn't get as hot as the sink water did. And since the water pressure was so bad I found my self having to constantly trigger the light sensor back on. And the sliding doors would not stay put to one side so I had to use 1 of the 2 towels each day for the floor because it kept...
Read moreThis is my first time staying with IHG hotel let alone Avid specifically. I am always in the fort Mill/Charlotte area due to travel for my job. I normally stick with the choice hotels and I will say that this will be my first and last time ever staying with this hotel/ ihg brand of hotels again thats how awful my experience was. I am baffled PER NIGHT they charge a $50 deposit that is included in the price of reservation at the time of check-in. My plan was to stay there for one night so my total for one day $170. An emergency came up and I needed to extend my stay for one more night the following morning at checkout. I was prepared to pay $120 even though the size of the overpriced room was no larger than the size of a child's bedroom. Which I will also include the fact that they DO NOT HAVE microwaves in the room. Therefore you have to be inconvenienced to go all the way down to the front lobby to use a microwave for the few short minutes it would take to heat up some food it will take you longer to go down to the front lobby to use it. That alone was absurd for the price of the room. Upon going to renew my reservation for another day my total comes to 175.00 the charge an additional $50 for ANOTHER DEPOSIT before even returning the first deposit to my account knowing I would get the deposits back I proceeded. The following day prior to checking out I had to run to pick up catering for my job and at 10:30 a.m. my key did not work. I was locked out of not only the building but my room as well. The once again inconvenience and aggravation so i go to the front desk and ask them to make me another key staff proceeds to tell me all of the keys stop working at 10:30 a.m. for every "guest". Aside from the fact that I had to fork out over $300 to stay in a bedroom sized hotel with no microwave for 2 days I don't even get the full amount of time that I paid for because of the of the keys no longer allowing me in the building or my room 30 minutes before 11am. I have never felt so cheated and scammed out of money to stay at a hotel than my experience staying at avid. to top it all off I am still waiting to get my deposits released back into my account going on 5 days later. If for whatever reason you have to take the deposit out of my account the deposit should be refunded just as fast as you were able to take it out of my account. Once again I'm inconvenienced having to wait on my money. The proper way to handle customers who are paying top dollar considering the tons of hotel brands to choose from would make sure that before checking out a walk-through was done with a staff member so the funds can be released without any additional inconveniences or confusion. I will tell everybody that I know who comes for the amusement park if you stay here expect to be
overcharged for a mediocre experience. And lastly I am highly offended that there is no deposit to bring in a dog or a pet of any kind like they are more welcomed as guests than people. Going on day 8 (day 5 is when i wrote the google review) i still have not received my deposit back. Never again will i spend a red cent here one of the worst experiences I have ever...
Read moreDON’T STAY HERE unless you want your family to get no sleep due to inept staff and loud teenagers. My family and I checked in here Fri, 4/28/23 after a long day at the park. Front desk staff was friendly during check in. We got dinner and returned to our room, falling asleep about 9pm. My family was then awakened at 11:30pm by repeated calls to our room by Jammar Clement, the night auditor at the hotel who stated both to my wife and myself that I had to report downstairs IMMEDIATELY to swipe my credit card for incidentals and this COULD NOT WAIT until morning. We had charged nothing to the room. This was THEIR MISTAKE during check in, but now it was MY PROBLEM. There was no issue with the card, I am a Diamond member and they had my card on file. The card was also checked along with my ID on initial check in. After I went downstairs and swiped my card, I returned to the room where my family was struggling to return to sleep both due to the call and the loud teenagers that were running by the room and being loud in the rooms and halls until after 1am. When I returned downstairs to bring the issue up to Jammar Clement, he stated that he could not go upstairs at the moment but he would check on it later after people left the lobby. When I inquired how much my incidental hold was that he had awakened my family for, he stated $25. This is untrue, my bank statement shows $50. He also stated that his manager Mark Gallup would be there to discuss any concerns in the morning. This was also untrue. Even if inept, hotel staff should be truthful. We got little sleep that night. Upon check out, the ladies at the front desk were friendly but there was no manager on duty. We left and struggled through our drive home, having gotten little sleep. As an IHG Diamond Member, I am well aware that IHG hotel standards for staff training are well under Hilton and Marriott hotels, and this hotel is an extreme example of that. This year I have stayed at some IHG hotels that even have bedbugs, but at least the staff didnt awaken my family in the middle of the night for a trivial administrative mistake that they made. The only reason this review has two stars instead of one is the room seemed clean, the cleaning staff was friendly and they thankfully didn’t have bedbugs. Do better IHG. I’ve already canceled a few upcoming business stays, and hope that IHG improves training and guest disturbance...
