Well we had this trip planned for a few months. I was told since we were flying in and our plane landed that we would be able to get in the room a little earlier to check in. We arrived at 1:00 pm. When we pulled up to the hotel we noticed a line out the door. This is usually a sign that something is going on but this being 4th of July week I paid no attention. Once I made it to the desk watching angry people leave I was told that there was no power in the Hotel. I understand things happen. But not only was the lady rude about it she had no idea when the power would be turned back on. So my whole family 1 handicapped are stranded with putting are things away and getting cleaned up. That's OK she gave us some number around 3:00 that the power would be back on. It's Pismo we won't let this start the vacation off bad. So we went shopping and so fourth. We arrived back at the hotel different person at the front desk this time. I guess the other lady had enough did not see her for the rest of the week. We arrived in the room still no power but we have a room. Arrived to the room that is handicapped directly next to the restaurant with people from the restaurant sitting basically on our balcony. So no air and the only breeze is with loud patrons basically drinking on our Balcony this went on for another 3-4 hours because of no power so all they had were drinks at the restaurant and no food. Now keep in mind I am staying at this hotel for 5 days which was expensive. So we decide to go to the beach that the sign outside our door say beach access and steps. Yes there is beach access a half a mile down the sidewalk tough on handicapped people. there are so many things to list and it sounds like a ramble. But people should know this. From the no breakfast but a discount at the restaurant next door that charges $10.00 for a bagel. To when we were leaving they were going to charge us the water fee from the room that we drank when the power was out. At no time did they talk about a refund. restaurant voucher or anything. The fact that if you have a handicapped room for someone maybe that is Autistic and you put them in a handicapped room. make sure it's not right next door to a restaurant with drunk people every night being loud and screaming till 11:00 PM. For the thousands I spent on this hotel. I would expect more. Stay at the Dolphin Bay right next door you will be treated a whole lot different. I honestly never have written a bad review for a hotel but this was ridiculous. I apologize for the ramble and grammar but I am on a flight and...
Read moreWell… we checked in and that was great… we do recommend getting a s’mores pack if you stay here. That was the highlight of this inn. We booked on hotels.com for 2 nights. It looked as though the room had a lovely view…
Nope! We also had a door connected to the neighbors room and they had screaming kids at 4am. We have a child so I understand but a lot of people were in that room plus 2 screaming kids. Luckily our kiddo slept through it but not us lol.
We had a bathroom with no toilet paper, bath supplies and only 2 towels. Now we could have txted for more but it was late and we drove a long way. My mother lives there now so on her way over she brought us some.
We had 2 beds and luckily we could squeeze into one. The other bed had stains on the comforter and footstool area.
I put my longchamp bag down on the desk not knowing it was covered in sticky red sauce (probably jam) I went to turn on the lamp and it’s broken and smells like burning plastic.
So after all of this it’s about 8ish and we need food. So we ordered from the restaurant on site to take back to this room since it’s late. My mother had fish and chips, I had a wedge salad, husband Cuban salad, daughter burger…. Horrible!!! My mom and I spent most of the night sick. My mother txted me at 2am to see how we were… thank goodness for the toilet paper she brought us.
The room was hit and humid and loud… dirty too. We also had no cushions on the patio chairs like the others… also trash/derby and cigarette butts were around our patio.
The shower had good pressure… and the fire pit was wonderful… check in and out were great. 2 stars is generous for our stay… wish I had better pictures but if you must go… avoid rm 134! Go for the king costal view!
Last picture shows our clean bed… it...
Read moreI am actually somewhat reluctant to write this review simply because The Spyglass Inn, located in the Shell Beach area of northern Pismo Beach, CA is one of those hidden gems that I fear could very quickly and easily become one of those absolutely must-see experiences for the whole of California should the word get out. And if that were to happen, such hidden gems are regrettably in short supply.
I happened to comment on their in-house survey after our most recent visit on February 11 and 12, 2023 that while we haven't really kept an actual count, my wife and I figured that this most recent visit would probably be close to, if not greater than a dozen times we have stayed at The Spyglass Inn. We first learned of it when driving up from where we live in Orange County, CA to visit The Hearst Castle and thought that "somewhere in Pismo Beach" would be a good place to hang our hat for the weekend and discover the beauty of the Central Coast for ourselves. Little did we realize that we had randomly chosen what would become our top-priotity in-state vacation spot of our lives!!
The staff have always treated us with professionalism and truly act as if they could not do enough for you. The rooms are always spotless and well-maintained, including the unbelievably comfortable beds. And the incredible views are absolutely beyond reproach by every conceivable measure!!
On this most recent visit, another couple joined us and they were absolutely smitten by the entire experience. I even jokingly made the comment that I feared it might actually require a giant crowbar to pry them away so we could all take the drive back home together!! To sum it up, they both commented, "we are DEFINITELY...
