I am giving this RV campground 5 stars because it exceeded my expectations as far as clean bathrooms/showers, clean laundry rooms (machines in working order, easy to use, and reasonably priced), clean pool area (and pool water does not reek of chlorine; yet is maintained daily), and clean grounds with landscaping that is clearly kept up year round. Employees were attentive and friendly as well... I was there 5 days and 5 nights and I was relaxed from day 1, which doesn't happen often. Usually I sink into my vacation on day three.
Pools: I want to mention that I have not been a "lay by the pool" gal since I was... maybe 13. I visited the pools daily!! I loved it! There are two large pools; one for families and adults with children, and one for adults without children. Both are easy to get to and there is plenty of parking area if you want to drive a vehicle or golf cart to the pool. I was close to both pools and enjoyed the walk, and I visited both pools. The adult pool has an indoor bar that is adjacent to it (bar area was also clean). The adult pool area played SiriusXM 60s and 70s music all day... and that was my reason for jumping over to the family/kid's pool! I can only listen to so much 60s and 70s pop and rock music (there is no music played at the family/kid's pool). Neither pool was over-crowded and I don't mind hearing kids play. Note: this place is crowded during the winter months and their primary customers are snow birds (and employees told me they are a very fun group!).
Community/atmosphere: There is a retirement/manufactured home community that sits next to the RV campground, and there are permanent campers on the RV side. There is also a golf course behind this property (with easy access). Residents take pride in this property and they have an established (yet friendly) community. This community does increase in number during the winter months. This place is their home year round, or for some months at a time. There's a lot to do at KOA, and they clearly make sure that everyone has a fun time. There are good local restaurants too, and there are major shopping stores within a few miles.
Last good mention: This is a dog-friendly place. There is a small (clean) dog park area that is equipped with agility training features as well. Owners appeared aware of the need to clean up after their pet (s) too (although I was there for only a short time, I foresee someone speaking up if an owner isn't taking care of their dog's business...). I really enjoyed my time here, I felt like I was on vacation as soon as I got there. I will visit this...
Read moreI'll start off by saying that I am a weekend guest and that apparently means that my business is not appreciated.
Booked two spots that were next to each other months in advance and was assured the spots would be available as I camp with another couple and we spend time at each other's camp. The KOA staff was so helpful and seemed grateful for our business when we booked the sites, that we joined the KOA simply because of the phone conversation. (Even though we had heard bad things about KOA from friends)
Fast forward to a week week before the scheduled trip and the KOA was contacted to verify the reservation was confirmed and there were no issues. The KOA informed me that the spots were separated for no appearant reason. After speaking with staff on the phone and explaining that the joint spots were the only reason that we booked with them, they informed us that it would be corrected and went so far as to tell us our spot numbers with an email confirmation. Crisis averted. Not.
Arrive with my fellow campers only to be informed that, once again, the spots were separated. After a lot of beating around the bush by the KOA staff it's finally explained that the only reason for the spots being split was due to us being a weekender and to make room for a camper that was staying for an extended period of time.
The KOA offered a 10 percent discount for our troubles and told us to take it out leave it as they are booked up and cannot accommodate our request to be in spots that are next to each other. They even lied to our face and said that there was only one spot between our campgrounds when in reality there are three spots a road and a bathhouse between us. But I guess that's what you get with Okeechobee county schools.
After making it known that we were not happy with the situation, if it wasn't already obvious, the manager graced us with his presence and told us that he "would make it up to us in some way" but would not elaborate, only saying that he would be back the following day with a "voucher." If I had to guess, he wants to pacify us for the night so we will set up and be less likely to leave. If I was by myself I would have left immediately and demanded a refund, but I have other people to think about.
Long story short, if you're a short timer, skip this camp ground, it's crowded and expensive anyway. However if you stay for a long time, enjoy, they will probably treat...
Read moreIt was our first time here. The cabin we had was cute. A full size bed and a twin bunk bed for the kids. Well built, AC and heat, with ceiling fan. Showers and bathrooms we're across the way from us and well maintained. They also had washers and dryers for a price and a free dog cleaning station. There was a fire pit in front of the cabin with a metal rack on top for grilling, but beware of the smoke it burns your eyes. You can buy wood at the front office for a price. There is also a picnic table on the lawn in front of the cabin and a porch swing. There are other cabin options with showers, bathrooms, refrigerators, but obviously you'll pay a higher price. You have to bring your own bedding/pillows/towels.
If you are looking to just relax this is the place. We did not have a TV and they only give you 250 mega bites of wifi or pay ahead of time for more. That was okay for us being we wanted a less technology zone for the kids. Not too much to look at nature wise, but a whole bunch of trailers/RV's all around you. It is a small town, so not much to do in the community. They have a pool, rec room and very small mini golf for the kids. We didn't get to use these things because it was cold and one of the nights it rained and the mini golf was flooded.
You could rent a golf cart to drive around the grounds for $50 a day, which is utterly ridiculous. We did not spend this because that is too expensive, especially since no matter what time you pick it up, they want it back the next day at 11 am. So if you get it at 5 pm, you can't keep it till 5pm the next day. Pick up time is 11am, so if you are willing to pay the steep price get it at 11am sharp.
For our first time attempting baby steps camping it was fair. For us however I would like a cabin in a more nature environment not a large pavement with a few cabins and trailers/RV's all over the place.
We we're there for a friend's 7th birthday, so we made the best of it and had...
