Unclean Room & Spider Bites ⭐ 1 out of 5 stars I've stayed at the Red Roof Inn in Raleigh nearly every week since January while participating in faith formation classes at Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral. I chose this hotel for its affordable price and convenient location, which is near a bus stop. However, my most recent five-night stay was deeply disappointing and concerning for my health. I was staying in room 321 on the third floor (as I have for most of my recent stays booked through Booking.com). In the middle of the night, I woke up with painful spider bites, three on my arms and two on my legs, that I received from under the bed covers. The sensation on my arm was so intense that it felt like it was on fire, and now I need to see a doctor for treatment. When I reported this to the receptionist, I was moved to room 221, and the difference in cleanliness was immediately noticeable. I’ve stayed in room 321 before and overlooked the grit or sand I felt between the sheets, but now it’s clear the bed was not clean and likely infested. The quality and upkeep of the third-floor rooms appear substandard compared to others in the building. Because of the lack of cleanliness, the health risk, and the inadequate upkeep of certain rooms, I’m giving this hotel 1 star. I expected basic hygiene and a safe place to sleep, especially as someone traveling weekly from over an hour away by Amtrak, and this experience has shaken my trust in this location. I hope management takes this seriously and improves conditions, especially for returning guests. Follow-Up: Red Roof Inn Raleigh NCSU – Unclean Room & Venomous Spider Bite Became a Medical Emergency This is a follow-up to my previous review of Red Roof Inn Raleigh NCSU, where I’ve been staying most weeks since January while participating in Faith Formation at Holy Name of Jesus. I chose this location because it’s affordable, well-located near Route 7 bus service, and makes navigating Raleigh, especially downtown and local Good Eats, very accessible. It has been a reliable part of my transition back to the area. Unfortunately, my most recent experience turned into a serious medical emergency. During a five-night stay in Room 321, I woke up in the middle of the night with multiple spider bites, including a severe one acquired under the bed covers. I had previously noted the gritty texture in the sheets, possibly sand or debris, but this time, the consequences were dangerous. The bite turned out to be venomous. By the time I returned home to Wilson via Amtrak, the venom had entered my circulatory system, causing migrating clusters. In this condition, the venom spreads through tissue, leading to inflamed, intensely itchy, hot areas that shift and flare up over time. The pain was unbearable and only manageable with intense prayer. Dr. Christine Barton in Wilson, NC treated me. She confirmed the seriousness of the bite and administered: >An injection of Decadron (a corticosteroid for inflammation) >A 6-day prescription of MethylPREDNISolone (steroid) >A 7-day course of antibiotics (generic for Bactrim) This was not a mild incident, it was a frightening and painful ordeal that required immediate medical attention. While the front desk did move me to Room 221, which was notably cleaner, an apology was given on Google Reviews. However, the health risk posed by room 321 will need to be resolved. I had stayed in that room before, often booked through Booking.com, and now I’m left wondering how long this issue has gone unaddressed. Despite all of this, I want to emphasize that this location has potential. It's ideal for those relying on public transportation, and for people like me navigating life transitions with limited resources. But I hope my experience serves as a cautionary tale: always check under the covers and around the bed before settling in at any hotel, no matter how familiar. I’m giving 1 star, not out of spite, but as a clear call for accountability. Cleanliness, safety, and guest follow-up are non-negotiable, especially when health is on the line.

I stayed here with my daughter and we thought it was great. The parking lot is spacious and clean and didn’t have creepy people hanging out. We felt safe, even when we returned late at night from our event. Check in was quick and simple. The lady that checked us in seemed like she didn’t really like talking to people. But we went and checked out the room as soon as we got the keys and it was very pleasantly clean. We checked it really really well bc I have a severe phobia of bed bugs and the beds were super clean. The rest of the room was also mostly clean. It was very comfortable. They have fridge, microwave, coffee maker (which was clean), iron and board, blow dryer. The in room safe needed batteries but they only charge like a $2 deposit for the safe, which they gave me back. The elevator was working as was the vending machines. The ice machine on my floor was out of order, but that didn’t affect me at all. The room had a lot of lighting options and a large amount of outlets, including right on the nightstand. The room was super quiet all night long and the morning desk clerk and our housekeeper were both very nice. They prob could clean under the beds a bit better which would be an issue for small kids or pets maybe. For some reason, someone had pulled all the plastic bristles out of a hairbrush and they were all over the floor under the bed. Again, didn’t affect us. I also liked their designated smoking area, which was quiet and comfortable, and greatly appreciated. There was a faint odor of smoke in the hall but our room did not smell and our a/c worked great. Also, the shower was perfectly hot and awesome water pressure. I work in a hotel so I may be more alert to problems than other people would be, and I was extremely satisfied with the quality of this hotel. We really enjoyed our stay and we are going back in a few months.

I chose Red Roof Inn based on the price because we were taking a trip on a budget to visit family. We arrived early and found out that it costs extra for early checkin , which we were ok paying but there were no rooms clean for early check in . After about an hour wait they had a room ready and the super nice girl at the desk did not charge us extra because we had been exhaustedly sleeping in the lobby after an extremely early flight. The room was surprisingly clean except for the tub, which looked like it had only been spritzed with bleach. The bed was comfortable. Some of the negatives: The phone didn’t work , the pop machines are on the 2nd and 4th floor while the snack machines are on the 1st and 3rd -AND there was no diet pop option. We were awakened very early on our 2nd day with the fire sprinklers being tested - a screeching that went on and on intermittently for over 2 hours. This should have been scheduled for after checkout time - not 9 am. There was also noisy construction going on a couple rooms down beginning at 9 am. The hotel offers coffee but no breakfast of any sort. The parking lot had a lot of litter which I felt that a manager should have had attended to daily. Here are the positives: Clean room, friendly staff , exceptional price. I am still wondering what the “plus” is in Red Roof Plus but that’s ok-we would stay here again. It was adequate and gave us a place to crash.

Normally I don’t write reviews and for the reviews I wrote with the business I used, I always give 5 Star ratings. Unfortunately the stay with Red Roof INN on 14th May night deserves a BIG 0. Let me the start the positives as the room I stayed was really good with no issues, the location is excellent but the way I was treated on 14th night should be severely condemned. When I checked in at late night on 14th May at 9:30 PM where my flight arrived late, I went to check in desk but didn’t see anyone and the board didn’t mentioned as ‘Please wait’ but it was reversed. I waited for 10 minutes and said HELLO, IS THERE ANYONE To HELP and out of frustration I just raised my 2 hands indicating I am helpless. I already had a reservation through super.com which offered excellent service and with reservation in hand, all I need is a front desk personnel to verify my Driving License and give me the keys. After 10 minutes, there was a BALD man who was doing some work and was staring me behind the desk. He just yelled me stating that he will not perform any service when I raised both my hands upward. I waited for 5 minutes and this guy again was doing some work. When I asked him what he just said, he repeated the same and he can provide service if I waited further as he reversed the small board stating that “Please wait for 20 Minutes”. I really got frustrated by the way he was staring and treating me like a dirt as it sounded completely inhumane. Finally after another 10 minutes he checked in with his rude face. When I asked him why he didn’t checked in before, he said that the board clearly says wait for 20 minutes as he just LIED in front of me as he reversed the board plate. Please check the video footage as it can be seen. As it was late after a long flight, I just went to bed and politely raised the issue next morning with the front desk personnel who was a women who treated me well. She asked me to complain to the manager by emailing and due to lack of time and work pressure, I didn’t send the Mail. I came to know through sources that the guy who yelled me is a MAINTENANCE employee and he takes care of front desk too. Being an important person working in Government agency, I am shattered by this one person behavior though every thing was good that includes the room, amenities and location. I will never stay again and recommend everyone to be cautious with that 1 guy’s behavior as when we pay in advance for service, it’s his duty and responsibility to provide it and no giving a RUDE LOOK and YELLING at me inappropriately. The Manager can contact me if they want to resolve the issue but as Gandhi said: “It’s we the business owners who are dependent on CUSTOMERS for survival and Not the other way”. Hope better sense prevail with the hotel...

If I could give this location a negative 5 if I would. Please do not stay here people. FAIR WARNING This was the worst experience I've had in a hotel motel or nay kind of Inn. stayed at Red Roof for Dreamville in early April and this was the only "affordable place." As I look at the current prices per day I see that due to the event, prices were gouged by a large margin. That's not the surprise. This place was infested with roaches and ants. There was rust and peeling paint in numerous locations in the room and sounds coming from the lights. There were serious smells coming from the room like mildew or old over used furniture. The photos in the advertisement are FALSE and give the appearance of something better than it is. I have photos and videos in which i will post if this issue is not resolved. The staff was not present the whole weekend until Monday morning when I checked out and had to fly back home. As someone who has worked in hospitality and hotels for 15 years a full refund should have been offered but instead a very low and unacceptable one was offered. When I refused all communication from their end stopped and I was forced to battle this with my bank. Please advise this company breaks its own policy and does not rectify the situations being made aware by the guest, paying to stay there. Please do not stay here people.
