Pros: breakfast options, laundry, and it was a place to sleep.
Cons: my #1 con has been blocked by IHG 3 times now when trying to submit this review so I will simply say I will never stay in this part of California again and it has more to do with something they won't let me write about than the following complaints. I cancelled my third party reservation and rebooked directly with IHG because an employee recently told me that booking directly with IHG will result in getting a better room, especially as a platinum elite member. I was extremely disappointed with the location of my room and I was also told that the hotel was sold out and there was nothing that could be done about it. I was located directly over the breakfast area and was woken up at 615am both mornings from hearing all the noises directly below (when my alarm was set for 8). My wife and I were visiting Lassen Volcanic National Park and it was important to get quality sleep, which we did not get. In addition to being woken up almost 2 hours early both days, the quality of the beds were far below my expectations. I just stayed at the Arcata/Eureka Airport Holiday Inn Express the 2 nights before and a Holiday Inn Express in Ely NV the previous weekend and their beds were both comfortable. In addition to that, I called this hotel BEFORE booking to ask about the pool area situation and they told me it was open (the spa was NOT open and was in the pool area and they neglected to tell me this). When I arrived I asked if there was anything special I needed to know about the pool area and was told no and that it closed at 10. I tried taking my daughter there at 9pm one night and came out asking for towels since there weren't any and then was told that there was a reservation system for the pool and they technically shouldn't be letting me in the pool. It is not okay that you are not telling this to people ESPECIALLY when they ask on the phone before booking AND upon checking in. This is a major party fowl for someone who specifically booked hotels for a trip based on which ones had a pool and hot tub available. I reached out to the hotel via email about these complaints and gave them time to respond before writing a review. They did not respond in any way shape or form to the message I sent. It's such a shame because we had a great experience for the previous two nights at a different Holiday Inn Express in...
Read moreI cant believe I am having to write this review after reaching out to not only the IHG customer service but to the GM of this property and to this day from my date of stay nothing has been addressed with no outcome.
I took my daughter and family who were in town on a little mini vacation for her birthday. She wanted an indoor pool so after my due diligence on properties I chose this location. Check in and the staff were great no issues there. It was upon waling into my room you could clearly see the room had water damage on the ceiling, walls and valance. Then in the bathroom there was mold along the top of the door along with poor housekeeping in there. As we all met at the pool went to the showers to rinse off before getting in and there was patches of thick mold on the ceiling. I didn't even want to be standing in there! I was told the spa was open and available due to covid when booking and during our stay it was said to be on and working but was filled with bugs and was cold as the pool. Sadly this is a location I chose after reading such great reviews and recommended for my family and I. I was absolutely embarrassed. After reaching out I spoke with the GM once in which I believe was the owner as it wasn't the same name I was given the night of my stay. Was a brief 3 min call in which she agreed to look into the issue and call me back with an outcome. Have not heard back. In notes on file says she tried to reach out but thats not true. I've never had to open an IHG case or whatever it may be called but in doing so feels like a waste of time when its been this long and no follow up and no final agreement. Not worth your hard earned money. And I could get a new room due to the hotel being sold out that evening.
Property is not up to any sort of IHG standards. Sadly I have been rethinking the brand all together and this location was the icing on the cake. Not sure what's happened to the brand here lately but I will not be spending my hard earned money on IHG when looking for hotel accommodations anytime here in the future. The room I was assigned was Absolutely disgusting and should be taken off the market until...
Read moreOnce you walk through the doors this property feels more like a Holiday Inn upscale property rather than an Express property. We were pleasantly surprised by the large lobby for socializing which also serves as the breakfast area in the morning. We enjoyed the comfort of the lobby several times as we were traveling with friends moving a family friend from LA to Portland. We stayed at this hotel four times this summer.
We were upgraded twice as Platinum IHG members and given extra friendly customer service two of our four stays. We asked about being upgraded on our last visit and we were informed that the desk clerk "didn't notice" and therefor we weren't upgraded which was disappointing.
Both types of rooms that we stayed in were comfortable and well kept. This property looks to have been recently upgraded. Overall the staff would be above average due to the two stays where we encountered super friendly customer service & upgrades.
The hotel is easy to access right off the freeway, but set back enough that the freeway noise is not a bother. The parking lot is tight if you are traveling with a trailer, camper or an RV. However, there is a street inlet that the hotel is located on in which you could park a larger rig if needed and feel safe.
The hotel is located right behind an AM/PM convenience mart which made getting snacks & drinks a breeze. However, there are not any restaurants directly surrounding the hotel. You need to get in your car & travel a mile or better to get to a sit down restaurant. The morning breakfast is great and the service was excellent in keeping the breakfast bar clean & freshly stocked.
Female travelers: the parking lot is well lit & feels safe if you are parked close to the front or on the side of the hotel facing the street. I would feel comfortable traveling to this...
