Surfrider-Ride right past||Im a nurse who came to vaccinate Saipan for a 4 week contract working 6/7 days 10 hour shifts- Having a clean comfortable hotel is a necessity- picturesque ocean access a BIG plus. Surf rider is a small building with a Great harvest bakery on the grounds and ocean front dining. For the 1st week it was lovely (other than a broken ice machine and someone’s clothing left in the closet) .I was told at check in I could stay on the 4th floor until a special event for 4 days and I would have to move to another wing until the wedding festivities were over. I was moved to another wing which seemed unused and hot. The 1st room I was given after the move had bugs on the bed and desk and I was moved down the hall- with a view facing a wall and tank. Either the staff made an error, or it was supposed to be some sort of concelation prize-a fruit basket appeared in my room and when I opened it the fruit was rotting- the oranges were moldy blue and the scent of rotting fruit very powerful.(see attached)||Heres the thing- I travel a lot and its not unusual for things to go wrong- its what the business does to correct the wrong that makes the difference between a 2 and a 5 rating. I asked the manager to contact me when the insect problem arose, and they never did- NO one is going to sleep in a bed with bugs on the covers! I spent 17 nights in a place where I was treated as a version of second-class- the ocean view rooms appeared unused after the wedding( turns out it was Bob the owners nuptials) . I asked specifically for a bathtub room and that was only present in the ocean facing rooms-there was no explanation why I couldn’t move back to the 4th floor and working 10 hour shifts with every Sunday off didn’t give me a lot of time to chat. Surf Rider has the potential to be unique -but I am disappointed not to be able to...
Read moreMy partner and I stayed at the Surfrider for two nights and we were completely surprised because the photos of the room online differed significantly to how it looked in person - and this was a good thing! It turns out just a few days before we arrived, the hotel had just celebrated the grand opening of its new wing. ||||The hotel is small. The new wing, from our count, has a total of 18 oceanfront rooms spread over three floors. Our room was large, comfortable and stylishly furnished. Same goes for the bathroom - modern, clean, with lovely citrus-scented toiletries. I am surprised we managed to book the hotel for only $98/per night. They could totally get away with charging $100-$120 per night in the new wing as it would still be a great value compared to the likes of the more centrally located Hyatt and Fiesta.||||The location isn't an issue. Although it's a bit farther from Garapan (~20min drive), Saipan isn't that big of an island so if you are renting a car you should be fine. Plus, even if you are staying in one of the more centrally located hotels in Garapan, we highly suggest renting a car to get around anyway. ||||There is a great bakery/cafe nearby called 'Great Harvest' which has some really good breakfast/granola bars and decent coffee. Beach front is nice and the hotel has a on-site restaurant which is good but lacked seafood options.||||Giving the hotel 4 out of 5 because the hotel staff did not offer to help us carry our luggage. We had a ton of luggage as we were on business and brought over merchandise for our Saipan-based customers. When we asked for a luggage cart, they simply handed it to us and left us to do the rest. This wasn't a deal breaker for us though but it is...
Read moreBeware!!! This was the worst experience my family and I have had at any Saipan hotel. This is not the first time we have stayed at surfrider, we live on Tinian and travel to Saipan frequently and have stayed here many times before. Upon check in we were informed our room would be 200.00 per night due to it being peak season (even though there were no tourists because it was peak covid). It was late and we agreed to the price rather than changing hotels. After turing on the air conditioner, it started leaking all over the floor. We called, nothing was done. Whatever, not too big a deal. We check out the next morning and all seems well. Fast forward three days (after staying at a different hotel) and we return home to Tinian. Upon checking our email, we find that the hotel charged an additional 500.00 to our card with a picture of trash on the balcony. No room number, no video. They did not attempt to call while we were in Saipan to resolve this. The picture showed cigarette trash (broken, like someone chewing mama) and Binbin wrappers. We do not chew and we do not eat Binbin. I've tried for a month now to resolve this with management and haven't recieved any help. In fact, I am left with the impression that management was in on the scam. All we were asking is to remove the 500.00 charge (for cleaning debris off the balcony) as it clearly wasn't our room. They said they would reveiw the CCTV to resolve the issue and then didn't get back to us. I called again today to follow up and received no help from management again. I caution anyone considering staying at Surfrider Saipan to think twice unless you are ok spending 700.00 per night for these basic...
