Before I say anything else, I absolutely love Laurie and Pintu. Very welcoming, empathetic, professional, cordial and so many other wonderful things. I started out with Pintu but he was pulled away by another customer so I had the pleasure of cutting up with Laurie. Great sense of humor and a very down-to-Earth person. We actually had a chat about her past and how she came to Virginia via New York and I told her how I ended up here as well. She took the time to show me several rooms so that I could choose the one that I felt most comfortable in. Wishing I would have chosen the second floor now. Lol! So if you stop by and are blessed with these two be sure to show them some love.||Before I tell this story I want to make something clear. Ladies, if you are traveling alone I'm going to make two suggestions. 1.) Always have a dog with you and 2.) Learn how to carry and use a weapon. Make sure you check the local laws in place for concealed carry. Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia all allow open carry, and concealed but the specifics differ. Florida requires you to be 21 years of age and the rest 18 years of age. But Federal laws still apply to your ability to carry.||On to the story....||I live in Jacksonville, Florida about 20 miles from the border into Georgia. I had to make the 56-some odd mile trek up myself to pick up my sister who at that time was living in a vehicle outside someone's home and let's face it, it's getting cold up in ya'lls neck of the woods at night. I shared my location via Google Maps and off I went on Friday morning around 9:45 a.m.||With my arrival into the city that night around 6:45 p.m., I was already exhausted. I probably could have headed back that night but decided my sister might like to sleep somewhere warm and stretched out so I ended up here at this motel. I'm already aware of locals who hang out at motels/hotels on the weekends to party but was rather surprised that wasn't an issue at all for me. I had someone next to me on one side but barely heard them. You could hear very faint talking sometimes but nothing annoying. My sister on the other hand slept through everything, I however did not. I cannot tell you how thrilled I am that those two things I mentioned previously were with me at the time of my stay. ||I explained to Laurie when I was checking out the following morning that at 3:28 a.m. |I heard a very loud bang as though someone hit the door to the room with their fists, or slammed the door right next to our room. I have a 10-pound little pup who never barks or growls, but that was the next thing I heard after the loud bang. His little tail was straight out, his heckles were up from his head to the end of his tail and his ears were back. About the time I woke up a little and began to get a grip on what was happening he bolted off the bed and went straight to the door just growling like I've never heard. Clearly had to be Satan on the other side of the door because, why? He NEVER does that. ||I never heard anyone speak, walk away, run, nothing. I got up off my bed, turned my gun off of safety and walked over to my dog, picked him up and yelled through the door, "Go on or get shot!!" No reply, no nothing. Am I going to look out? Nope, I've seen enough horror movies to know that's never a good idea, but if you come in I'll introduce you to someone. ||So, I decide to go lay back down and my little dog is still growling in a deep, low tone. Finally after about 15 minutes he settled down enough for me to doze off another two hours before waking up to the sound of a truck starting outside my window. I've never been so tired in my life. My sister grabbed coffee that morning and I chatted with Laurie before leaving to let her know what happened, and we were off and running.||As far as the aesthetic of the place. That mirror in the bathroom is a very good idea but for the love of Sam please paint the bathroom a color that will lower the blindness level on all that white. Maybe a nice creamy brown? And don't let anymore stink bugs in because eeew. I wanted no bugs or townies but it was only one bug. I thought he was already dead but apparently not. He moved to another location during the night. And one tiny bug dead in the bathroom. The hole under the sink should be enclosed and it would probably solve that issue. The blue paint behind the beds is very nice but the curtains look hideous. My refrigerator was spotless, that was a plus but it doesn't seem as though whoever "cleaned" that room takes pride in what they are doing. Was it horrendous, no. However there shouldn't be anything left on the floor, or streaks on the mirrors if you cleaned the room. How do I know my sheets were clean? I don't. Too scared to look under the bed as I've already had too much excitement. ||So, if you are traveling and just need a place for the night off the beaten path a little, this is for you. And although I can't say that the $95 charge was worth it for the room, it was definitely worth it for a chat...
Read moreI have pretty low standards for hotels, but this Baymont was bad even for me. I actually thought about leaving and finding a different hotel but I was so tired I stayed. Nothing was hugely wrong, no dead body under the bed or anything, but everything was slightly broken or wrong somehow. Even check in took forever because something was wrong with their machine.
Bad parts: When I got to the room I used the wall switch to turn on the light but it only turned on one light by the door, leaving it too dark to find the rest of the light switches inside the room, so I used my flashlight to find the light switches on individual lamps, and found that many were also unplugged. Once the lights were on I saw that there was a glass door leading outside to the lawn, which didn't seem to have a lock, two or three different locks were all apparently broken so what was left was a metal stick to prop the door closed. The glass doors also only had one thick curtain --instead of the usual one heavy and one light which allows you to get light in the room without people looking in-- so if I wanted any light from outside I had to have the whole room open for people walking by to look in. Then I saw the sink drain was closed with no way to open it, the chair in the room was missing one of the wheels so you couldn't sit in it without it tipping over, the clock radio was unplugged and the plug was nearly inaccessible though i did get it plugged in and set to the right time, and i put some items in the freezer section of the mini fridge and they thawed. In the morning I went to the breakfast room to make tea and the water was lukewarm. The room was also dirty under the desk and table and kind of ugly, messy paint job etc. It was also loud, music and stuff from neighbors, even though it was not a weekend. And some clanging around started about 5:30am.
Good parts: There was one woman at the desk who was super on the ball trying to fix everyone's problems, pets stay free which is awesome, and the blankets on the bed were very comfortable! The view of the mountains from the area was beautiful. Also, I asked about the sink and the attentive woman at the desk asked maintenance to look, which to their credit they did quickly (but they fixed it by simply removing the drain cover).
All in all my summary is that while nothing was horrifically bad (no rats, roaches, break-ins etc) but enough things were broken or messed up and just unpleasant that I will do my best to avoid Baymont hotels in the future if this is what they are like. Not worth the few dollars saved over other hotels literally...
Read moreI was in town for a death in the family. We had problems with the people who are staying in the room beside us. The first night we tried just to ignore it however after the next night the same thing happened and we were not able to get any sleep. We called the front desk and asked if something could be done and we were told to call the police and that he would back us with the police because we had not been the only ones to complain. I asked for a number to call corporate and was told there wasn't such number. I was able to find a number online and called them and they pretty much told me that I could find another hotel to stay at and that was the best they could do. I was also told the GM would be here this morning for me to speak to and when I went up front this morning I was told she had called out. I was told that we were not even going to be aloud to stay the next two days because all of a sudden after I complained and only after I complained there was an issue with me having 2 family members over at night when they got into town. They also said that because I was local there was nothing they could do and they would not be renting to me again. The only reason they said that I am local is because my drivers license had my old address on it. Also quote, "well we aren't going to kick them out because they have lived here for over a year." Even though the other night clerk told us he would back us with the police because they had already had several complaints. So just to review.......We had a death in the family, another guest was cussing and yelling and throwing things and because I asked if the hotel staff could simply ask them to quiet down I was told that we we're the ones that would not be able to stay and finally because of an OLD address on my drivers license I had to be local and would have to find somewhere else to stay. Funny nothing was said about my family who came to visit before but after I complained it because an issue. This is the worst treatment I have ever received. They made NO attempt to offer anything to help the situation. I hate to say it but I can only wonder if this has something to do with the fact that we are a lesbian couple. Is this how Baymont Inn treats it's gay guests? I would not recommend staying here to anyone. However this is not something that I am willing to let go. I don't care if I have to go to the owner of the franchise or go to ever review site on the web. This is completely unacceptable. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME STAYING...
