Had a wonderful overnight stay in a tent-only site in a nearly fully booked weekend in early August. We arrived early so they just have us a beach parking pass for the weekend until our site was clear. Shockingly clean bathrooms, and a little cash only camp store with most of the essentials including firewood. Helpful and chill staff at check in, much like one would expect at any state campground. The site was big and included a water hookup, waist-high charcoal stove, ground fire pit, and electricity (!!). We had an amazing view of the marsh at sunset, and a little tree where we hung our rain fly. Perhaps I was lucky being in the tent area but despite the fact that it was packed, everyone was very respectful of the quiet hours. Minutes to the beach for swimming, and boat launch where we used our kayaks to look at amazing wildlife including cranes, herons, sparrows, cormorants, and the occasional seal!! I will...

The bathrooms have a sign up saying they close at 7:30 am. I set my alarm at 7am to make it to the bathroom on time by 7:10 and two days in a row they were closed, I had to walk to the open bathrooms farther down the road with a hurt leg. It's unfortunate they can't be more accurate with the time they schedule clean the bathrooms. Also, only one shower works in the main bathroom and the second bathroom has two working making wait times extremely long for showers, the open one was gross with wades of hair in the drain and dirty floor. Those are the TWO things that bother me! However, we do enjoy camping so close to the beach the kids can scoot around on scooters and have fun. Bring extra tie downs for your tent, ours was tied down and the wind was so strong it broke the poles so we ended up buying a new tent at the local Walmart. Bring ear plugs, eye mask if you want to sleep in. Be Prepared for anything especially...

This is not a camp ground. This is an RV PARKING LOT. All the sites are right on top of each other. The wind is crazy, making a fire almost impossible. There are no nature trails and there is garbage blowing around this parking lot. Way over priced. I will NEVER come here again. I will actively make sure no one I know will ever come here. This was the most disappointing experience I've had. I highly suggest to find a real camp ground or you will be sorely disappointed unless you like to park your RV 5 feet from the next RV. Hear everyone's conversation. I don't want to hear a father yelling at his child, because their site is 10 feet away. No privacy. I can't believe we were so misled. I'm going to stop as I could just keep going on how absolutely miserable this experience was for the price we paid. We left when the football game started blasting. I'm still livid....

Totally not worth the price. $90+ in fees because I was out-of-state. Some of these fees (eg water fee, electric fee) were per-night and could have been rolled into the cost of the site per night instead of tacked on at the end when it was time to pay. Felt very deceitful. I paid $156 for two nights and for that price I expected something incredible... instead I got dirty bathrooms, no staff at the campground itself, and it wasn't even clear if my campground pass would allow me to park at the beach (which was $40/day because I was out of state). No staff anywhere except for at the entrance kiosk. Interpretive programs would have been nice but there were none to speak of. The location of the campground is incredible, though. Great place to see birds. Watch out of ticks! They are numerous, even sitting on the blades of grass sticking through the boardwalk.

In the fall I come here to camp when the weather gets cold and the grounds become quiet and spacious. Not many people want to brave the elements as winter approaches, so I use that to my advantage. There is a beautiful beach right across from the grounds, heated bathrooms with showers, and hook-ups for all RV needs. They have great little fire pits and grills you can use to cook on. There is also good soil/sand for setting up tents. I'd say avoid the campgrounds during peak camping season as the place is a mess of hundreds of people; where as in the fall, you'll hardly run into a soul. A convenient place to camp while traveling, or if you're just looking to set up a tent for the night and sit fireside. I'll be back next year.
